Work Text:
Last year Easter went horribly wrong. While it wasn't his fault, he still feels like there is something he should do to help. So on a day that Bunny is out in the world doing something with plants, he sneaks into the Warren and tracks down the Easter Elf.
Peering at him, the little elf chitters, "Why are you here? Aren't you winter?"
He nods, crouching down, "Yeah, I'm a winter spirit, but I figured, this year I can play the Herald of Easter. Help Bunny out some, cause what happened last year."
The elf shifts foot to foot, bell jingling as he does so. "How?" It appears that this elf is starting to take on some of his new Guardian's traits, mainly being suspicious.
Grinning, he answers, "That's where you come in! Can you dye my hair pink?"
The little elf blinks a lot, head tipping side to side, still shifting foot to foot. "You want to be pink?"
He shakes his head, "Only my hair." Motioning to his outfit, he continues, "Already got a plan for this."
Poking his tongue out, the Easter Elf starts to wander away, only to stop and turn to look at him with narrow eyes. "Come on."
Oh, so he's supposed to follow the little guy. Got it.
A few minutes later, they are by the outer wall of the Warren, where the pink dye river starts to turn to regular water and sink into the ground. He pulls the towel and plastic bag he brought with out of his hoodie pocket, takes his hoodie off to shove in the bag so there can't be any 'accidents', and settles on the ground to wait for directions from the elf. Sure in large numbers their intelligence seems to go down a lot, but when they're one on one, the elves are pretty decent.
It takes them a few trial and errors before they get a system down, but once they do, the elf quickly sets to work with getting his hair pink. The darker silvery strands end up being more of a purple tone, but it looks good over all. Thankfully it dries quickly, and he is able to use some of the clear water to get the dye that got on his skin off using the towel, before he pulls his hoodie back on to leave.
"Thanks Easter Elf," he tells the little guy before taking off before Bunny gets back.
Retreating to the cabin he likes to store most his stuff in, he changes into a different outfit. One that has a green hoodie and lighter green pair of pants with flowers sewn into the bottoms. Over the next few weeks, as the weather warms, he leaves new shapes in the frost, not just his spiral ferns. There are also bunnies, eggs, flowers and trees. He doesn't know if it actually helps or not, but he's trying. When he plays with kids, he reminds them that the Easter Bunny will be making his rounds soon, and to look for the eggs.
At least he tried, he decides on Easter, returning to his cabin to change back into his normal clothes, and wondering when his hair will go back to white.
