Even though the Sunset Savanna never snowed, it did get quite chilly at times. This led to many mornings for Cater to wake up with a cold or Leona to be tangled with Cater.
This Christmas morning, it was the latter. Cater woke up to find himself trapped in Leona’s embrace. He huffed softly as he gazed fondly at Leona.
It was almost always during the times he was asleep that Leona looked the most relaxed. He looked like he was experiencing a pleasant dream, having a soft smile on his face.
Cater kissed the top of his nose before snuggling into Leona’s chest for warmth. He closed his eyes and was about to sleep. But then a low chuckle rumbled from Leona’s chest.
“…Morning.”
“Mm…good morning to you too..”
“Merry Christmas..”
Cater giggled before trying to move closer to Leona (but Cater at this point was already close to Leona in all bounds). “Had a nice dream?”
Leona chuckled again before grinning, “Yeah, I met this beautiful redhead and next thing I know it, we’re already getting married.”
Cater sighs and shakes his head playfully, “And was this redhead more beautiful than me?”
“Of course not, why would he be?”
Cater laughed before burying his face into Leona’s chest, opting out to converse on the topic anymore. “Better get some extra sleep now, or else the alarm clock will start to ring…”
Leona grumbled before pulling the comforter over their heads. “Maybe she won’t notice us and think we’re just pillows under a blanket.”
“You wish..”
The two enjoyed each other’s comfort and warmth with each other for a few minutes. The shortest of smiles to themselves. Though, the sound of small footsteps eventually intruded the peace.
“Here comes the alarm clock…” Cater whispered. Leona’s eyebrows furrowed.
The two heard the door unlock, “Dads, dads, dads!! Wake up, it’s Christmas!!” the supposed “alarm clock” ran over to their beds and pulled herself to be on top of it. She pulled the blanket away from her dads, said dads groaning.
The girl smiled triumphantly with both of her hands on her hips. If she didn’t have red curly hair, she’d look almost identical to Leona.
“C’mon…!” She nagged, trying to pull Leona away from his husband, “you promised you’d be up ‘bright and early!’”
That was true, Cater did promise Rose that they’d wake up early. “Leona…we should probably get up…” he started to pull away from Leona’s arm and sit up.
Instead, Leona grabbed both Cater and Rose and entrapped them in his arms. “Nah, I think it’s more comfortable here.” he mumbled as he slowly drifted back to sleep.
“Dad!!” Rose whined, trying to wiggle her way out of her dad’s arms.
Cater merely laughed as he watched Rose relent and he felt Leona’s arms tightening around them. Rose then smiled brightly and giggled. She tried to tickle her way out of Leona’s arms.
Sure, maybe it was cold. But Cater wouldn’t trade anything in the world for this moment.
