Work Text:

There isn’t much you are expecting from grabbing a coffee at the local café, but when you had seen the handsome man sitting in the corner alone, you started to think this morning could be interesting.

Usually, you’d never dare speak to a stranger that you happened to find extremely attractive, but it was Monday, so it could only really go up from here.

“Excuse me,” the words are quieter than you intended, now anxious to disturb him.

His head rises at the sound of your voice, looking somewhat confused before his features soften, turning meek.

“Do you mind if I sit here?”

“No,” he says, pushing his coffee mug to the side, and waving a hand at the table, “Of course not, go ahead.”

Dear heavens above, he’s British too.

He already has a dazzling appearance, straight from the brush of his hair, to his stark blue eyes, to the flannel worn so perfectly fit on his shoulders, and now his voice dazzles just as much.

There couldn’t have been a more perfect man to ask than he and, with that revelation, your nervousness starts to bubble from the pit of your stomach.

He keeps his eyes on you when you sit down, placing your mug on the table and unfolding the newspaper that was under your arm. You shift in your seat a moment, eyes fixated on the words in front of you until you can take it no longer, meeting his gaze and having him flash you a quick, bashful smile at having been caught in his intent staring.

“I’m sorry,” he chuckles, crossing one leg over the other. “It’s just... you’re really beautiful,”

The comment rises heat to your cheeks, making you smile in an attempt to hide whatever might be showing your reaction on your face. He catches onto the nerves, bringing a hand to his knee.

“Sorry, that’s quite an outright thing to say,” the hand on his knee now moves to the back of his head, carding fingers through his hair.

Maybe, but you’ll admit that you like his forwardness. And his voice.

Sharing a table with a handsome stranger happens to be the perfect start to the week, you find, and you know that this conversation will be fun.

It’s a good thing you need coffee to start your mornings.
