Chapter 1: to me, you are a story that will never end

Chapter Text

Kang Seulgi knows she’s going to be the happiest girl in the world on New Year's Day. She’d gone through all the effort to book a nice seat on N Seoul Tower months ago, most especially since they had both graduated earlier in the year. Now she was anxiously waiting to see if she was getting a seat. All the effort they had put into both their relationship and their lives were going to pay off. They were real adults now.

Wiping the sweat off her brow, she gave a sigh of relief as their booking was confirmed through a text. Putting down her phone, she stood up from the small corner she had made a spot of at the dance studio she practiced and taught at. It was a relief to know that preemptively telling Wendy to make her New Year’s Day free wasn’t a mistake, most especially since it would make coming up with plans harder. Dusting the back of her pants, it wasn’t long before the voice of someone broke her out of her thoughts.

“Seulgi-unnie!” the voice called out, the source of it waving to the dancer. “Did you do it?” the young woman asked, her tone optimistic.

“Ryujin! Yeah, I did. It was stressful! Who the heck takes four months to reply?” she chuckled softly, her hand making its way to the back of her neck. “Do you think it’s a good idea? This entire thing,” Seulgi asked, her voice unsure.

“I can’t say anything but… from what I’ve seen when your partner visits, you two are literally a married couple at this point,” Ryujin laughed, her index finger poking her own cheek to tease the older woman.

“You think so? Okay, okay! Thanks,” she perked up, her face brightening.

“Just make sure when you do get married you invite the studio, okay?” the younger girl joked, waving a goodbye to Seulgi as she dashed to meet a cat-eyed girl at the entrance.

“I will..? See you!” she reciprocated her farewell, her cheeks heating up at the mere thought of there being a wedding. Putting her sweat-filled towel inside her duffel bag, she said her goodbyes to her co-workers before heading back home.

Arriving back in the apartment she and Wendy had made a home for themselves, Seulgi tossed her bag to the side of their entrance hall before dashing towards the couch and unceremoniously crashing on it. She briefly considered just passing out then and there, but a small part of her was bothered by the amount of sweat she had accumulated during the day. Before coming to any real conclusions, the sound of a key unlocking the front door jolted her awake. Looking towards the clock, it was already six in the evening, meaning only one thing.

“Babe? I’m home!” a tired, yet content voice joyously cheered.

“Welcome home~! Come sit on the couch with me!” Seulgi immediately replied, her arms stretched out as if she was expecting Wendy to oblige.

“If anything, I’d just lay my head down on your lap. Unless..?” Wendy jested, her eyebrows bouncing up and down suggestively.

“Down girl. Stay with me for a bit,” Seulgi rolled her eyes, arms still stretched out. It wasn’t long before the vocalist obliged, her legs finding a home on Seulgi’s lap and a head on her shoulder.

“You haven’t showered yet, huh?” she chuckled, her thumb tracing circles around Seulgi’s upper arm as if it were a canvas. “You were waiting for me, weren’t you?” she teased.

“I definitely, totally, absolutely was not! I’ll have you know I was sitting here contemplating what to do for a grand total of two minutes before you came home,” Seulgi defended herself, mock offense gripping her words before wrapping an arm around Wendy’s shoulder. “But now that you mention it, that could work!”

“So you were?” she smiled before leaving a swift kiss on the dancer’s cheek.

Before their antics could ramp up in both intimacy and passion, Seulgi could only stare at Wendy, her eyes fluttering at the woman beside her.

Softly giggling, Wendy could only stare back. “What’s up?” she asked.

“Mmm, nothing. I’m happy. Christmas was fun, wasn’t it?” Seulgi smiled as she could only feel herself falling more and more in love with her girlfriend every day.

“It was. To think that Joohyun could drink that much was a surprise. I’m happy you introduced her to one of the girls at your job,” Wendy chimed, her eyes closed in delight. “Who was it again? Park, right? Chaeyoung or something?”

“Yup! Surprised they hit it off well. You know how she is sometimes,” Seulgi snickered. “Also, your New Year’s is going to be amazing. I got us a seat at N Seoul Tower!”

Wendy looked at the dancer in awe, the corners of her mouth slowly creeping upwards. “Really? Now that brings back some memories. I’m just surprised it’s been more than a year already, huh? Took us around twelve years and the collective force of our friends to put us together,” she exhaled through her nose in amusement. “I really wanted to go there last year, y’know. It was… when… yeah,” she gave an awkward laugh, her hand moving from Seulgi’s arm to cover her face in embarrassment.

“Hey, that thing wasn’t your fault or mine. We were just being blind, dumb lesbians,” she blew cherries towards the singer, a smile on her face. “Snap outta your head, okay? I love you. Plus, we already more than paid for it with all the stuff we had to do.”

“Yeah, you’re right,” she laughed. “I love you too. Thanks for being my anchor,” she obliged, her hand lowering to this time meet the dancer’s thigh. Seulgi could feel the small weight being pressed onto her. It was reassuring, a comforting presence to know that what’s happening right now wasn’t a dream. “My grizzly bear,” she beamed.

“We’ll make new memories there. You’re my Wanwan. That’ll never change,” she wrapped her other arm around Wendy, giving the singer a sweat-filled embrace. “So now that you’ve got sweat on you too…” she gave a sly smile, her face painted in mischief.

“Alright, alright. Let’s go,” Wendy rolled her eyes, her lips pouting. “Before we shower, could I, erm… ask something?”

“Go ahead, hot stuff!"

“Thoughts on marriage?” she nervously questioned, her eyes anxiously darting around.

Seulgi's smile could only widen, gently directing Wendy’s face to meet hers before pressing her lips against hers to give the answer to all her questions. As their lips distance, the liquid silk bridge between their mouths began to break as the dancer already knew her response. “I would forsake heaven and earth for you, Seungwan. I would let myself go through the worst pain in hell if it gave me the chance to be with you forever. I love you. I’m never going to stop loving you even if I were to become dust. I couldn’t stop loving you even if I tried,” she confessed, heated tinges of pink flaring on her cheeks. She could see that Wendy’s was almost the same, her mouth slightly agape at her words. It was then that Wendy bit the bottom of her lip, her eyes almost pleading.

“Kang Seulgi, get in that shower now,” she demanded, her breath heaved.

“Yes, ma’am,” she immediately responded, grabbing her hand and dashing towards their bathroom to only reinforce the feelings they had both built for each other for more than half their lives.
