Work Text:

Renjun hears the muffle jingle of a door opening and then a soft voice.

“Are you ok?”

Renjun lifts his head up from where it was buried in his arms to see a man looking down at him curiously. He looks like a college student with his black hoodie and messenger bag. He’s holding a hot beverage in one hand and that’s when Renjun realizes that he’s been crying in front of a random coffee shop on Christmas Eve for the last 15 minutes.

Here’s what happened.

His parents got fed up with Renjun always avoiding the topic of relationships, and especially, the topic of marriage. Which Renjun finds ridiculous because he’s 23 so why should he be thinking about marriage? Well, his parents are concerned about his future so they decided to set him up with a date without his permission. Renjun only became aware of it when he opened his door to find one of his mothers assistants standing there with an outfit already picked out for the occasion because apparently Renjun can’t pick his own date or clothes.

So here he was, sitting in a fancy ass restaurant in an even fancier suit listening to this guy he just met an hour ago talk about how he’s going to take over his fathers company in a few years. By some miracle the man finally asked Renjun a question instead of spending the remaining time they had talking about his brand new Lamborghini or his next trip to Paris.

“What are your plans for the future, career wise?”

Renjun internally snorts at this. He’s only asking to see if Renjun is even worth his time. Knowing this, Renjun shouldn’t have answered seriously, just given him some half assed answer and then ghosted him for the next few weeks while telling his parents he hasn’t heard anything since the date.

“Art, I like painting. Photography is also nice,” Renjun says. He’s very passionate about art and despite his parents disapproval of it, they know how much it means to him so they leave that subject alone. This man however, didn’t have the same mindset.

He immediately starts laughing at what he called “a joke of a career.” Renjun clenched his fist and stood up abruptly, ignoring his date asking where he’s going in between laughs.

This is how Renjun found himself looking up at a random stranger through the tears in his eyes.

“Huh?” Renjun asks, taken aback at this stranger's kindness.

The man hesitates before kneeling down and wiping the tears out of his eyes.

“What happened?”

“What an asshole,” Jaemin grimaces.

Renjun nods his head as he takes a sip of his hot chocolate. Jaemin, Renjun learned his name was, led him back into the cafe where he ordered him a hot chocolate and listened to his story about the awful date he was just on.

“How are you feeling?” Jaemin asks with such kindness in his voice as he looks at Renjun with such care.

Renjun blushes and looks away, not sure how to handle this kind of tenderness from a random cute stranger. Did he mention how cute Jaemin was?

“A little better now thanks to the hot chocolate,” Renjun sends him a small smile. He really meant to say “thanks to you,” but he feels that's too direct so he’ll focus on the drink instead.

Jaemin sends him a breathtaking smile. “I’m glad.”

Renjun averts his eyes from that pretty smile then sighs when he sees the text that just popped up on his phone.

“What’s that noise for,” Jaemin questions with an eyebrow raised.

Renjun groans, “My parents. They want me to bring my date to dinner so they can officially meet him.” Renjun lays his cheek on the table in defeat. “How do I tell them he was a big asshole and I never want to see his stupid face again.”

Jaemin laughs. “Does it have to be him?”

“Hm?” Renjun meets Jaemin’s eyes and sees the boy’s thinking very hard about something.

“Would they be fine if you bought another date?”

Renjun shrugs. “Probably? I think they just want me to finally bring home a date for Christmas,” Renjun sighs.

“Take me.”

Renjun’s eyes widened. “W-What?”

“Let me meet your parents,” Jaemin grins. “Just tell them we met a few months ago, but you wanted to make sure it was serious before you introduced me to them.” Jaemin winks, “They’ll love me, trust me.”

“Why would you want to help a random stranger you found crying on the streets?” Renjun questions.

Jaemin just sends him a smile. “Why not?”

“Renjun!” His mom immediately pulls him into a bone crushing hug. He hears Jaemin snickering behind him and sends the boy a quick glare before his mother pulls back.

“Oh? Who’s this?” She eyes Jaemin wearily, but one of Jaemin’s smiles is enough to ease her suspicion.

“Mom,” Renjun clears his throat. “This is my boyfriend, Jaemin.”

His mom gasps as she looks between the two. “Honey, come meet Renjun’s boyfriend,” she shouts over her shoulder.

Renjun sends Jaemin an apologetic glance, but the boy doesn’t seem to mind.

His father eventually appears beside his mother, giving Jaemin a onceover.

“Boyfriend?”

Renjun sighs knowing this is going to be a long night.

Turns out, it wasn’t as bad as he thought it would be.

“Jaemin, you are such a charming boy!” His mother says as she cups his cheeks.

His father laughs as he pats Jaemin’s back. “Renjun, this ones a keeper,” his father sends him a wink.

Renjun’s pretty sure his parents love Jaemin more than him now.

“Can I spend some time with my boyfriend now?” Renjun sends his parents a tight smile before tugging Jaemin out the back door so they can have some peace.

“Dinner was lovely ma’am, I can’t wait for dessert,” Jaemin manages to squeeze out right before Renjun slams the door shut. They both can hear Renjun’s parents gushing about how amazing Jaemin is and- oh god. They’re talking about his wedding now.

Renjun groans as he drags Jaemin as far away from his house as possible. His parents are absolutely loaded so they have quite a big backyard, which is perfect when you want to be as far away from your parents as possible. He groans more when Jaemin starts laughing.

“It’s not funny,” Renjun pouts, but can’t help cracking a smile when Jaemin throws his arm over Renjun’s shoulder and pulls him closer. Renjun doesn’t think about the fact that his parents can’t possibly see them so there’s no actual reason for Jaemin to be doing this right now.

“It kind of is,” Jaemin chuckles. “I’m pretty sure your mom was about to adopt me right then and there.”

“I know, don’t remind me!” Renjun playfully slaps his hand. “You’re too handsome and charming,” Renjun says without thinking and instantly regrets it when Jaemin stops them both and turns to look at Renjun with a grin.

“You think I’m handsome and charming?”

In order to avoid telling him “you’re extremely handsome and charming and I might actually like you, be my real boyfriend?” Renjun decides to, sadly, detach himself from Jaemin’s side and run away.

He giggles as he runs through the snow, listening to the sound of Jaemin calling his name and struggling to catch up. He hears a loud sound of snow crunching and turns around to see that Jaemin tripped face first in the snow. Not being able to stop himself, Renjun erupts in a fit of laughter, not noticing that Jaemin has fixed himself and is now running towards Renjun.

Renjun lets out a loud yelp as he’s lifted in the air.

“Jaemin, put me down!” Renjun laughs as he’s spun around. Renjun should have chosen his words more wisely because he notices the glint in the younger boy's eyes too late and before he knows it, he’s laying on top of the cold snow with Jaemin on top of him.

“Jaemin, it’s cold,” Renjun whines as he wiggles around.

“You’ll be fine,” Jaemin chuckles. He smiles softly as he looks at Renjun. “Your ears and cheeks are all red, you look cute.”

Renjun turns his head. “My parents aren’t around, you don’t need to say that stuff.”

“I mean it.” Renjun looks back up at Jaemin, and sees the boy staring at him seriously. “All the things I’ve said, I meant every word of it.”

They stare at each other, both their cheeks a warm shade of red. Jaemin starts to slowly lean forward and Renjun notices his soft lips, lips that look very kissable, but before anything can happen they hear Renjun’s mother calling them back for dessert.

They both jump at the noise and Jaemin reluctantly starts to pull back, but before he can get very fair, Renjun’s wrapping his arms around his neck and pulling him back.

“Kiss me,” Renjun whispers, watching the way Jaemin’s eyes widen.

Before Renjun can say anything else, Jaemin’s connecting their lips into a sweet kiss. Renjun notes that Jaemin’s lips are as soft as they look.

“Jaemin, make sure you force Renjun to bring you back to visit us ok!” His mother says as he pulls Jaemin into a hug.

“Indeed,” Renjun’s dad says as he shakes Jaemin’s hand. “Don’t let our son hog you all too himself.”

“Dad,” Renjun grumbles as they finish their goodbyes and he’s finally able to pull Jaemin away from the demons he calls his parents.

“That was fun,” Jaemin says happily as they walk hand in hand.

“You have a funny definition of fun.”

Jaemin glances at Renjun with a soft smile, “Well, I think we had plenty of fun.”

Renjun’s cheeks flush at this and he makes a point to keep looking straight ahead.

Jaemin hums, “But, I do have a request.”

Renjun looks at him suspiciously. “And what might that be?”

Jaemin stops and tugs on Renjun’s hand until he’s in his arms.

“Would you let your fake boyfriend take you on a fake date tomorrow?” Jaemin gives him his famous pout that melted his parents' ice cold hearts. He’s ashamed to admit that it works on him too.

“Fake?” Renjun questions and Jaemin immediately gives him a smile.

“You’re right, I like the sound of being your real boyfriend better,” Jaemin says and laughs when Renjun rolls his eyes.

“I meant the date you dummy! You’ll have to take me on quite a few in order to earn the boyfriend title.”

Jaemin’s face lights up, “So that’s a yes to the dates?”

Renjun smiles as he leans in to softly plant a kiss on his lips.

“Yes.”

“Good because I’m pretty sure your parents are planning our wedding as we speak.”

“Shut up!”
