Chapter 1: Chapter 1

Chapter Text

You were three days into the winter holiday break and those three days were enough to deem you 'bored to death' — ok that was a bit dramatic, but you were really bored and didn't know what to do. All your friends were out visiting their families for the holidays and yours are too far to visit, so you were basically going to be alone for the 2 weeks worth of break time from school. You didn't even have homework to do, not that you'd enjoy doing it, but it was something to do.

You sighed heavily, bringing a gloved hand up to fix your scarf. No matter how many times winter came you'd never get used to the cold.

Snow littered the pavement as you walked your way towards home from the grocery. Luckily you didn't need much, it was just a quick stop to get some vegetables for dinner and some snacks, you were running low on your favourites.

You quietly hummed one of those overplayed chritmas songs that come around every December, what made the songs even more annoying was that no matter what, you'd always catch yourself hearing it in your head or humming it out loud. You smiled a bit at the thought, it was kind of funny, but you quickly stopped smiling when you realized that you probably look like a creep right now.

Lost in thought — or rather loss in the lack of thought, you hadn't realized the patch of snow in the middle of the walkway which led to you slipping and landing on your butt.

'Wait...why doesn't my butt hurt?'

You opened your eyes that were shut closed by instinct, heading darting upwards to make eye contact with a man.

Oh my goodness.

A really really handsome man.

Your jaw almost went slack but you composed yourself. Okay this was embarrassing you were just about to fall in front of the most attractive man you've ever seen.

People like him actually exist? Wait.

You shut yourself up and went back to the first question you had in your head, 'why doesn't my butt hurt?'

A purple-ish hue surrounded your body as you looked down to your feet which were slightly levitating off the ground then to your side and saw the contents of your grocery bag floating in the air. This feels awfully familiar.

Then you finally made eye contact with the man in front of you, he was attractive before but now that you get a clear view of his face it was harder hold your jaw from going slack.

You cleared your throat and ignored the fact that you were still floating in the air, "Thank you." You let a smile make it's way to your face in gratitude of being saved from the fall.

You could see his eyes widen and a tint of pink on his cheeks which you presumed to be due to the cold as he let you and your stuff down and back into place before the fall.

There was a pause of silence before he quickly said, "A-ah yes of course, no problem. Are you okay? Did your stuff fall down? Sorry you must be wondering how you were floating off the ground I can explain." He nervously blurted out.

Wow did he just get even more attractive? Super handsome and kind?

You chuckled as you brought a hand over your smile. Did his cheeks just get pinker?

"Yes I'm fine, thank you again. None of my stuff fell thanks to you, and don't worry I understand, you're a psychic am I right?"

His mouth made and 'O' shape and you could see a curious glint in his eyes.

"You know what about psychics?"

You hummed in response, "My brother has psychic abilities."

"Oh woah, do you too?"

You were about to answer before he spoke again.

"W-wait sorry I'm asking too many questions you probably have things to tend to." He directed towards your grocery bag.

You quickly shook your head, "It's okay! I don't have to tend to these anytime soon don't worry about it. To answer your question, I don't have any abilties, though I can see spirits, I can't do anything like you just did."

It used to embarrass you that you didn't have abilities as strong as your brothers, but over the years you've come to terms with it.

He seemed to calm down and get more comfortable after your reassurance.

"My name is Shigeo Kageyama by the way." He introduced himself which made you realize you almost forgot to do the same.

But where did you hear that name before...

"Shigeo Kageyama." You said his name out loud, "Y/N L/N, your name sounds really familiar but I can't seem to remember where I've heard it before..." You tapped your chin in thought.

"Y/N L/N? As in Y/N from the park near Salt Middle School?"

Your eyes went wide and you smiled a big smile when you remembered and at the fact that he remembered.

You met him when you were in 9th grade and he in was in 8th grade. You went to a school across his while your brother went to Salt middle school. Despite your brother being in 7th grade at the time, he managed to make friends with Shigeo because they shared a club room.

There was this park near both schools that your brother liked going to with his friends, your parents didn't want the two of you walking home alone so you'd wait at the same park for your brother. It was a peaceful park that was not too big and not too small. Enough to not get lost at least.

There were bench tables around in quiet spots so you'd often do your school work at them.

That's where you met Shigeo.

"Mob!" You laughed happily, coming in close to wrap your arms around him in a hug. Now that you think about it, he definitely looks like the Mob you knew back then but more matured.

And tall, really tall. You used to be taller than him.

In the middle of the year you and your brother had to move to a different country because of family issues, and at the time you weren't able to get any form of contact with Shigeo, and when you came back it was already time to start applying for college. It was an abrupt move and it definitely made you sad for a very long time, he was your bestfriend.

He was also the biggest crush you've ever had on anyone. Could probably say you were thoroughly in love with the boy.

Even with the loss of contact, those feelings for him remained deeply rooted in you for years even if it had been long since you've seen him.

You froze for a second, only now realizing that you hugged him without asking.

"Sorry! I didn't mean to throw myself on you like that." You were about to detach yourself from him before you felt strong arms pull you in and hug you back.

You were pleasantly surprised.

You could feel your pulse quicken and cheeks turn warm, thank goodness he couldn't see your face.

"I actually..." He paused, "I wanted to hug you but I didn't know how to ask, so thank you."

He was still the same.

-

You two were walking together to your house, it was getting dark and you both were on mutual agreement that it could be a great way to catch up.

But that didn't happen before thanking him a billion times for not only saving you from your fall, but for also carrying your grocery bag.

"All this time I had no idea your brother had psychic abilities, nor did I know you could see things."

You two were now talking comfortably, despite how long it's been it wasn't awkward.

"I guess there just was never a time for that sort of conversation to come up, plus I was embarrassed that I could only see while my brother could do cool stuff like making books float around."

He nodded in understanding, "I used to hate mine too. I was scared I'd hurt people, but I don't feel that way anymore."

He looked towards you, "I grew to like it with the thought of using it to help people out."

You looked away as you remembered the embarrassing fall from awhile ago. Then you heard a laugh next to you.

I think your heart did 10 backflips just now.

"Sorry, I couldn't pass the opportunity.

He has definitely gotten much more confident over the years.

Who knew it would be this attractive.

-

You finally made it to your house, you were sad that you had to part ways now.

"Thanks Shigeo." You smiled softly at him as he handed your grocery bag back to you.

"Anytime, especially for you." He mumbled the last part, unaware that you heard it as clear as day.

You both stared at each other, the silence surprisingly comfortable.

"Are you free tomorrow?"

The both of you said at the same time, causing both of you to errupt in laughter.

"Okay, let's redo that, you go first."

He cleared his throat, he couldn't help but smile.

"Are you free tomorrow?"

You leaned against your doorframe, the steps you were standing on made you taller than him so you had to look down. "I'm free the whole week, including next week. I'm on holiday break and I have nothing planned. How about you? Are you perhaps free tomorrow?"

His eyes lit up.

"Actually same here, I have nothing planned." He felt a sudden gush of confidence, "Unless you'd like to make plans with me."

This time your jaw went slack, "Is this really the same Mob?" You said playfully.

"The one and only."

-

You two exchanged numbers before calling it a night.

Boredom wasn't the reason you were up at night, rather it was the thought of Shigeo Kageyama.
