Work Text:
Kaiser wouldn’t consider himself a complicated man. Despite being a young alpha at the age of 19, he believes he has all that he’d ever need in order. He has football, a great team that helps him play his football, and a really cute boyfriend to play football with. Except on this fine morning, his cute boyfriend is nowhere to be found.
“Ness, where is Yoichi? Practice is starting soon. Why isn’t he here yet?”
The mild mannered beta looks around as he pushes their team’s ball cart in place for today’s training session.
“Not sure, haven’t seen him around ever since I got here. Maybe he’s still at the dorms?”
Kaiser sighs. It’s not like the omega to be late. Ever. “I’ll go check up on him. You make sure everyone starts practice on time,” “Aye aye, Captain.”
The alpha hums as he floats down the halls. He’s been in a good mood all morning. He hopes that Isagi’s fine. He’d hate it if his boyfriend is sick or something. How is he going to show off the new moves he’s thought up if the omega’s stuck in bed? Arriving at the boy’s door, Kaiser releases a series of firm knocks on the door.
“Yoichi~ You’re late for practice,”
When he’s not immediately greeted by the blueberry omega, he purses his lips and lets out an irritated huff. He’d hate it if the worry that is building in his gut is all for nothing. So Isagi should come out already. He bangs on the door louder. There’s no need to worry about disturbing the other residents here. It’s half past 9 in the morning. All the other athletes should have begun practice by now. Just like how they should be.
“Yoichi, don’t make me break in there.”
Feeling fed up, he lifts a foot to kick the door down. However mid-swing the door suddenly opens, leaving him kicking nothing but air. Recovering his balance, he glares back up with a few choice words resting at the tip of his tongue to give Isagi a piece of his mind when he realizes that the threshold and the immediate area leading into the omega’s dorm room is empty. No signs of a mischievous or tired or annoyed Isagi at all. Weird. Choosing to think nothing of it, the alpha slowly makes his way in to look for his boyfriend. If the door opened then it must mean that the omega is in here somewhere.
Taking a deep breath, he feels the tension naturally melt off his shoulders as he takes in his lover’s pleasant blueberry scent. Despite him enjoying riling the omega up at any chance he gets, he still cannot deny the immense comfort this scent brings. Though something about it smells a bit different today. Not in a bad way. Just… different in a way that he’s not yet sure how to describe. There’s a new element to it now, he just can’t seem to put his finger on it. All thoughts on scent completely slip away from his mind however, when he finds himself at Isagi’s bedroom door, staring at his boyfriend who looks bigger… to a degree.
“Y-Yoichi?”
Azure blue eyes gaze back at him with a tender warmth that has Kaiser’s stomach doing a flip. The only way he could describe it is of it feeling like a gentle hug one would give to a child. He feels small for some unfathomable reason, in a good way. In a way that makes him feel protected, cared for, looked after. Which is something he’d never thought to feel when he’s with Isagi Yoichi of all people. What with the omega being a whole head shorter than him when they stand near each other. He feels drawn to Isagi. No, he feels drawn to this Isagi. This Isagi smells different. He runs his eyes up and down the figure leisurely sitting on his omega’s bed, cradling a soft blanket in his lap. The blanket they would share when the alpha stops by to hang out and watch a movie together or do other bonding activities.
Undeterred by the way his inner alpha seems to paw at him to get him closer to this mysterious omega who wears his lover’s face, Kaiser bares his fangs and growls.
“Who are you, and where is my Yoichi?”
He can feel his claws stretching out as he flexes his fingers. If this stranger has done anything to his boyfriend, he swears, omega or no omega he’s going to-
“I don’t think that’s how one would talk to their pregnant mate. Though i appreciate you thinking of me as your Yoichi even this early on,”
The alphas jaw slowly snaps shut. What? The omega’s voice is deep and velvety, sounding like a much more mature version of Isagi’s voice now. It sends shivers down his spine. Upon closer look, he can see a light shade of pink dusted across the stranger’s cheeks and the tips of his ears. The same places his own Yoichi would turn pink when he’s feeling bashful. So pretty. Even on a much older face, still so beautiful.
“Yoichi…? W-What did you mean pregnant mate- I… what?” subconsciously, his feet carry him further into the bedroom almost as his mind tries to make sense of the situation. The calm omega says nothing, scooting a bit to the side to allow for Kaiser to join him on the bed. Once he’s sat facing the strange Isagi look-a-like, the older male gingerly removes the blanket from his hold, revealing a large belly. The alpha gasps when he’s hit with the peculiar blueberry scent again, though much stronger this time.
This is when everything clicks into place. The reason why he felt like Isagi’s scent was a bit different today, the new element that he couldn’t put his finger on, had been milk. Isagi’s blueberry scent is softer, and has a milkiness to it now. Which leads him to his next realization: He’s currently experiencing the soulmate swap.
“You’re my Yoichi from the future aren’t you?”
He can't help the awe in his voice as his gaze alternates between looking down at the bump on the omega’s abdomen and up at the familiar azure blue eyes he’s had the honor of admiring from at an intimate distance ever since they started dating 8 months ago. If it’s possible, he feels like he’s fallen in love all over again. Even with the poor lighting of the room, Isagi is positively glowing. His heart skips a beat when the radiant omega throws his head back in a melodious laugh. This allows him a glimpse of the large mating bite that rests high on Isagi’s neck, a sign of a possessive mating. He gulps inaudibly. One day he’ll be mated to this angel?
“Oh Michael, I know that look. I didn’t recall you being this smitten all those years ago?”
There’s that voice again. Smooth and deep like velvet. It’s simultaneously comforting and subtly erotic at the same time, if the liquid heat pooling in his belly is any indication to go by. He’s snapped out of this heated daze when a hand gently pushes his face to the side.
“Nevermind, it seems like regardless of age I am dealing with the exact same person. This is what I get for mating a horn dog,”
The omega rolls his eyes playfully, clicking his tongue in mock annoyance. Kaiser laughs sheepishly with a hand on the back of his neck as he tries to regain his composure. He should think about more innocent things. Innocent things like… ah!
“So I see that you’re pregnant.”
Though now that he’s cleverly pointed out the obvious, his mind is filled with the thoughts of how his Yoichi got pregnant in the first place. This isn’t going the way he’d hoped. Taking pity on him, Isagi tentatively reaches for his hand and brings it flush to his bump.
“Yes, now feel them. They are born from our love, Michael.”
Kaiser’s heart once again skips a beat. There is a tiny little life in there. A life he and Yoichi created together. Well, him and Yoichi from the future at least.
“Can I ask you how old you are?”
The question tumbles out of his lips before he could think better of it. But the omega humors him.
“I’m turning 34 this year. I’ll be taking a short break from football to have this baby soon,” Isagi says as he rubs his belly thoughtfully.
“34? Isn’t that a little late to be having the first baby?” the alpha can’t help but point out.
Isagi shakes his head softly, “This isn’t the first child though, so it’s fine.”
Kaiser’s entire world pauses for what feels like a full 5 seconds.
“Come again?”
“This isn’t our first, Michael. There is already another little one waiting at home back in my timeline. Though I hope younger me isn’t freaking out too much about it,”
The alpha and omega share pleasant eye contact for a beat longer, before Kaiser looks down to idly run his fingers on the baby bump.
“When did we seal the mating bond? Who proposed first?”
The corners of Isagi’s mouth lift up in a gentle smile as he reminisces the years he’s spent with his mate.
“I proposed,”
“What?!”
“Hm, because you were too much of a coward. So I decided to take matters into my own hands. Got on my knees and everything. You’re lucky you’re dating a gentleman you know,”
Kaiser huffs indignantly at being called a coward. “Why would I be afraid of proposing? You’re always meant to be mine anyway,”
He growls lightly when the older omega places a heavy hand on his head and ruffles his hair.
“Life doesn’t always let us follow our ideals, Michael Kaiser. There will be times when you’ll be made to question everything you’ve known to be true. In that moment, what you need is a strong sense of self, and a beautiful mate by your side who won’t put up with your bullshit,”
Isagi playfully messes with his hair some more until the alpha ducks away from reach.
“Stop speaking in cryptics, old man. Whatever, I’ll figure it out by myself at some point anyway,”
The omega sighs in half-hearted exasperation. “Just when I told you that you needed me. I mean sure, you’ll figure it out by yourself. Eventually.”
Meanwhile as the couple’s banter continues, an 18 year old Isagi finds himself in a unique predicament.
While he’s aware of how physically affectionate his Kaiser can be, he didn’t think it’d go up several notches after 16 years. Because now he finds himself all but confined to a large king size, wrapped tight in the alpha’s impossibly strong embrace.
“Uhm, Kaiser…”
“I told you to call me Michael, or Mihi.” the alpha whines, nuzzling into his hair as he sighs in content for the umpteenth time.
“Do you enjoy hugging me that much, you octopus?” Isagi asks in mild annoyance at not being allowed to move an inch ever since he woke up in this strange room next to an alpha that looks like a x2 size version of his own Michael. To say he was shocked was an understatement. But the moment his eyes land on the bite mark displayed on the right side of the alpha’s neck, something in him settles. Ah yes, this is the soulmate swap. Which means that he and Kaiser are soulmates, and they will temporarily swap places with themselves from a different timeline.
Isagi takes stock of the bedroom they’re in, and he sees a baby crib against the wall opposite the bed. So they have a baby? He blushes pink at the thought. Him, and this Kaiser made a baby together. That’s such a wild thing to think about. Because right now as he’s pressed flush against the older alpha’s body, he can feel how toned the other is. He’s mated to an absolute unit.
“Haha my sweet Yoichi, what are you thinking about in that pretty head of yours?” the sound of the alpha’s deep rumbling voice reverberates through Isagi’s rib cage, making him shiver at the unique sensation.
“Nothing…”
What he gets in response is a fond chuckle, and a light kiss on his forehead before he’s released completely. He’s just about to ask where Kaiser was headed, when the older male turns his soft gaze back at him, wordlessly urging him to stay put for a bit. Less than five minutes later, the large alpha is back with a small bundle of blankets in his arms, made tinier in contrast with his wider frame.
The omega doesn’t have to see what he has there for him to know. “A baby?” he asks in awe. Kaiser smiles warmly, placing the still sleeping child into his young mate’s lap.
“Our baby,” the alpha croons.
Now with a bundle of soft, sleepy baby in his arms, Isagi is overwhelmed with waves upon waves of fondness and affection for this little one. Unwittingly, the omega begins to purr and coo at him.
“Hi there, what’s your name little guy?”
Round blue eyes blink blearily up at him, as if confused as to why his mama is disturbing his sleep.
“His name is Haruichi. I brought him out because I thought you’d want to meet your baby before you have to go back to your own timeline. Also because I thought it’d help with those dirty thoughts you were about to have earlier,”
Isagi gasps, scandalized. “Kaiser!”
“Nothing kills off horniness like a whining baby asking for your attention. Trust me.” the alpha says matter-of-factly, ignoring his mate’s red face.
Isagi’s sharp retort is cut off however, by the squirming baby in his arms. Oh, his baby is about to cry. He holds the baby closer to himself, trying to shush him, but nothing works. His baby is wailing now, fat tears making its way down those ruddy cheeks.
“Is he hungry? Does he not recognize me? What am I doing wrong?”
His worries come out in a slurry of panic. His mate is calm though, gingerly extending careful hands to help him.
“You’re fine. You just need to readjust your hold and… yes, right against your heart. He favors you more than me, you know. I think he’s just upset that you’re not holding him how you always do,”
Isagi marvels at the way the baby… their baby instantly settles back to comfortable sleep. His heart melts more at the sight of Michael Kaiser, the irritating boy he’s been butting heads with since the moment they first met, looking so gentle and warm. So much more mature, oozing quiet confidence and steady assurance. Someone he can see himself wanting to build a family with one day. He didn’t think he’d ever get to see this side of his boyfriend. He didn’t even think this side existed at all.
While his eyes are taken by Kaiser, the alpha’s eyes are on their sleeping baby cuddled up against Isagi’s chest. Gaze impossibly fond as if he’s looking at the love of his life. Isagi’s cheeks and ears tint pink at the thought of being on the receiving end of such affection. The thought doesn’t last long though, because soon he feels those warm blues on him, pinning him in place.
“Can you not look at me like that?” he grumbles under his breath as he tries to hold back the butterflies fluttering in his belly.
Kaiser breathes a soft laugh through his nose, leaning in to give him a feather light kiss on the top of his head.
“Just can’t help but realize how young you look at this moment.” the alpha sighs, his eyes taking on a wistful look all of a sudden as his mind seemingly revisits something from the past. Their shared past.
“Do me a favor, when you go back to your own timeline, can you kick that Michael’s ass for me? Trust me, he needs it. Tell him to treat you right or else you’re dropping him, hm? Set the stakes high,”
Isagi tilts his head to one side curiously, “Kaiser?”
But the alpha doesn’t grace him with an explanation. Before the omega could press further though, he feels his eyelids weighing down heavily. Is the time up already?
Kaiser stands up and takes the baby from his hold, showing him one last kind smile before Isagi’s world darkens completely.
***
Back in the current timeline, 19 year old Kaiser’s eyes snap open as he sits up on the bed. He’s still in Isagi’s room, but when did he fall asleep? He was talking to Isagi from the future until just a second ago. However now the figure that also lays asleep next to him is his Yoichi, the 18 year old fellow pro football player for Bastard Munchen’s under 20 team.
His first knee jerk reaction is to wake the omega up to ask him if what he’d experienced was real. But one look at the peaceful expression on his boyfriend’s face halts him. Instead his hand moves to smooth over his dark feathery hair. His heart swells 2 times its size when his mate subtly leans into the touch.
A soulmate, he marvels. He has a soulmate by his side. He knew Isagi was special the minute he laid his eyes on him.
Life doesn’t always let us follow our ideals, Michael Kaiser. There will be times when you’ll be made to question everything you’ve known to be true. In that moment, what you need is a strong sense of self, and a beautiful mate by your side who won’t put up with your bullshit.
He’s not sure what older Isagi meant by that. It probably means that one day he’s going to fuck up astronomically bad that it’d leave him doubting himself. But with such a pretty soulmate here with him, he doesn’t see how he wouldn’t be able to solve those issues.
That’s right. As long as he has his Yoichi by his side, there isn’t a problem he can’t face.
