Work Text:

The vast expanse of cloudy skies towered above Akito’s head as he sighed contentedly, sitting on one of the many benches scattered across the park they had visited for a singing gig at a nearby live house. Beautiful sakura petals were falling, and it was the perfect backdrop for a break.

Toya sat next to him staring into the distance at the scenery, wind making his split colored hair slightly ruffle, like how they do in movies.

Akito’s group, Vivid BAD Squad, had arranged to meet at their current location, to just hangout for a while but so far, only he and Toya were there, not that he minded of course.

Toya was many things to him- his best friend, his singing partner, and so much more. They had been through so much together, but lately Akito began to realize that he didn’t just feel platonic feelings for the other man.

Actually, he had known ever since he began singing with Toya, but suppressed it down, because he knew that Toya would never love him back. Every time he saw him, he would get this warm fluttery feeling inside him, and his heartbeat would race slightly faster than before.

He hated how he felt this way. He knew that if Toya didn’t feel the same way, their relationship would never be the same, so Akito settled for just being his friend. Toya was also too good for him, but he couldn’t help feel this way for him.

Several thoughts dashed through Akito’s mind as he continued to admire how soft his partner’s delicate features became in the morning sun. He tried to look away but he couldn’t help noticing how beautiful Toya’s silver eyes became when the sun shined on them.

Akito froze, and a light rose color began to creep up his neck when he realized Toya noticed he was staring.

Akito mentally scolded himself for being dumb enough to let his friend catch him.

Toya smiled at him, a soft warm honey like smile that could melt his heart. A sweet smile only reserved for him.

“Is there something on my face?” He asked, a worried expression settling upon himself, replacing the smile he wearing earlier.

Akito was shaken out of his stupor, and he cleared his throat.

“U-uh, no, sorry. I was just admiring the scenery,” Akito replied, stumbling a little bit over his words, silently cursing himself.

Toya nodded in response, and his peaceful smile came back as he turned his head back and closed his eyes. Akito would’ve been content to just stare at Toya, but it would’ve been too risky, and he could be caught again, so he settled for just watching the scenery with him, enjoying the blissful silence between them, and closed his eyes as well and let his mind drift as he started to get comfortable with Toya beside him again.

A little while later, Akito picked up on a string of clicking noises right in front of him, and he blinked his eyes open to find a dark haired girl with long wavy hair and little star clipped into it. An evil grin was plastered on her face, and she was holding up a camera directed at him. Next to her stood a petite dirty blonde girl, closely resembling a hamster.

He hadn’t even realized that he fell asleep, and didn’t notice his two other group mates sneak up on them.

Akito rubbed his eyes with an exasperated sigh and was about to get up, when he realized that his left hand were intertwined with a certain someone else’s.

Akito froze there, half way still in the seat, and halfway standing up.

Oh. Oh.

Akito flushed a dark red, as realized that that certain person was Toya.

Before he snapped his hand up, it lingered for a few seconds longer than he would’ve liked it to. Akito would have died of embarrassment and horror right there if An and Kohane weren’t there, continuous clicks happening, and stifled light hearted giggles sounding through the air.

Even though they had woken him up, Akito was glad for a distraction, so he leapt up and began to chase the two around, attempting to steal the camera back.

Before Akito got up however, he didn’t notice the disappointed look on Toya’s face as soon as Akito un-intertwined their fingers.

It was quite easy to catch up to An with his new found motivation to snatch that camera back and delete the pictures that An had taken and because of the fact that he had taken track when in middle school.

“Hey! Don’t break the camera, it belongs to Kohane.”

“Fine whatever, the pictures are gone at least.” Akito gave the camera back to An as soon as he made sure no pictures were left.

An snatched back the camera and smirked a little, giving a knowing look to Toya, still in the bench, currently checking his phone and smiling. It looked like he was scrolling through something. Akito frowned, looking between An and Toya.

“What did you do?” He asked suspiciously.

“Oh, nothing~” An winked at Kohane, who blushed furiously next to her.

Akito walked back to his partner and sat next to him again.

“What did An do?” He asked again.

Toya looked at him with a confused expression on his face. His phone was opened to the messages app, and An had sent a string of messages to him and it was all the pictures that she had taken of him before they were deleted.

Toya had also saved all of them into his camera roll.

If it was even possible to get even redder than before, Akito did. He looked away, pretending to not notice but it was painfully obvious that he had saw.

If An was laughing then, she was practically rolling on the ground now. Kohane was next to her stifling a small grin.

Akito shook his head and stood up, trying to shake the feeling of the lingering warmth of Toya’s hand. He was still blushing like crazy.

Why can’t I get him out of my head?

Toya flashed him a worried glance.

“Hey Akito, are you okay? You’re really red.” He asked, beginning to stand up as well.

Akito nodded. “Yeah sorry, I just need to clear my head for a second.”

“Okay.”

As Akito began to walk away, Toya turned to An.

“Why is he so red?” He asked, his face also a rosy color.

“Oh my gods, you two are so oblivious-“ An sighed, facepalming. She had calmed down from her laughing fit, but Kohane was still patting her on the back in case they came back.

Toya looked at her for an answer, a mix of a confused and a lost expression on his face.

An stared at him blankly for a good two seconds before realization hit her. “You actually don’t know?”

Toya shook his head, clueless as ever when it came to romance.

An sighed again, and glanced at Kohane with a look that said oh my gods look at these stupid idiots. “Just- catch up to him. He probably hasn’t gotten far, and you can ask him then.”

Toya shot her a questioning look before nodding, and racing off in the direction Akito went in.

An shook her head in exasperation. “Gosh, they might even be worse than those two senpais from 2-B.”

“Two senpais from 2-B? From Kamiyama, your school?” Kohane asked with a curious look.

“Rui and Ts- forget it, you wouldn’t know them.”

An gave Kohane a warm smile, whilst remembering all the times she had seen them running through the halls doing things only they could understand, while she tried to do her job as a hall monitor.

~~~~
Footsteps sounded behind Akito, shortly followed by a familiar voice.
“Akito, wait up!”
His eyes widened as he turned to see his dear partner chasing after him. Since he had mostly calmed down from their encounter, he slowed down to a halt, and let Toya catch up with him.
Walks like these usually helped him calm down, and this time was no different.
Akito waited for Toya to catch his breath, his face all flushed from running to catch up with him. However, just the sight of Toya made his heart race again and his head spin. With the added backdrop of the Sakura trees behind him, he looked even more endearing. He still felt the ghost of Toya’s hand in his.
“Uh, did you want me for anything?” He asked, trying to keep a cool composure.
Toya gripped his hands on his knees and tried to steady his breathing before replying. He looked up at Akito, and between gasps of air, choked out,
“Yeah, uhm were you really okay back there?” Toya answered, a look of genuine concern on his face. “You were really red back there. Do you have a fever?” He added.
Akito blinked, the flush coming back to his face. ‘Did he really come to get me to ask me if I had a fever?’ He let out a nervous laugh, praising Toya for being so oblivious.
“See! There it is again. Are you sure you don’t have a fever?” Toya made way to put his hand on Akito’s forehead, but Akito stopped him with his hand.
Realizing that he was touching Toya’s hand again, he let go of it and looked away.
Toya let his hand drop.
“Sorry if I made you uncomfortable.” Toya said, looking away.
Akito snapped his head back.
“No, no, you didn’t- don’t apologize. I don’t have a fever also- thanks for worrying though.” Akito tried to explain.
Toya frowned, “Then, why was your face so red?”
Akito’s face turned even brighter. ‘Shit, he’s not dropping the subject-‘
“Uhm-“
“Akito, if you don’t want to answer, it’s alright.” Toya cut him off before he could finish. Then realize he cut him off and apologized again.
“No, no, it’s just..” Akito tried to look anywhere but Toya. “It’s embarrassing.”
Toya raised an eyebrow. “You know you can tell me anything- I’m your partner, I would never judge you.” He finished with a reassuring smile.
Akito sighed and looked up with resignation. “You really want to know?”
Toya nodded fervently.
He paused to gather his courage for the line he would say which would either ruin his day or make it a thousand times better.
“The truth is that, I-I have a massive crush on you.” Akito finished.
He felt as if a weight had been lifted off his chest. He looked down at his feet- anywhere but Toya’ face. The fallen sakura petals looked especially beautiful at this time of day. He thought this as he closed his eyes and braced himself for rejection.
Toya was quiet for a few seconds. Or were they seconds? They felt like hours to Akito. He couldn’t stand it anymore and blinked his eyes open, and looked back up at Toya.
He expected Toya to be furious and demand they not be friends anymore.
What he didn’t expect was a furiously blushing Toya, almost as red as Akito himself looking at Akito with a unrecognizable emotion. He widened his eyes.
Toya stepped closer and hesitantly pressed a chaste kiss to Akito’s lips, and then stepped back, looking away. His whole face was now red with embarrassment.
His lips are so soft…’
“I-is that enough answer for you?” Toya whispered nervously, flashing Akito a questioning look.
‘He looks so pretty.’ Akito thought for the millionth time that day.
Akito’s mouth were still parted from shock. The good kind of shock which comes from having your crush named Toya steal your first kiss.
Toya stood there anxiously, fidgeting while waiting for an answer.
Akito finally had the sense to close his parted mouth after a few seconds, before he broke out into a wide grin, taking steps until Toya and he were only a few inches apart.
“Does this mean yes?” Akito asked, a spark of hope in his eyes, taking both of Toya’s hands in his.
Toya nodded shyly, and intertwined their hands again.
Akito blushed at the gesture.
“Is it okay if I uhm, kiss you?” He whispered.
Toya nodded again.
Akito gulped, and closed the distance. He closed his eyes, and melted into the kiss. Toya tasted like coffee. ‘His favorite obviously.’ His mind was currently frying itself at the moment, so he didn’t realize when the kiss had ended. Both boys wanted so badly to be like that forever in that sweet bliss with just the two of them, but unfortunately they had to breathe.
Looking at each other under a different light then before, Akito pressed his forehead against Toya’s, and smiled a warm delicate smile only reserved for him.
Sakura trees surrounded them, a sweet fragrance wafting through the air.
Akito’s brain short circuited, trying to process what just happened.
So, Toya likes me back and we kissed- not one but two times, and now we’re staring at each other’s eyes like lovers?!
Toya laughed, an easy laugh as he saw Akito’s face.
Are you okay?” He asked, a smirk on his face this time.
“Yeah…” Akito responded, realizing he was still holding hands with Toya, and becoming even more red than his hair.
“You stole my first kiss.” Toya said with a smile, glad that it was Akito. With a unusual combination of sarcastic, straightforward, and sweet and caring, which was the other side of him which was only showed to Toya, he was strangely endearing.
“Technically, you stole mine, since you initiated it-“ Akito began.
“Just stop talking.” Toya cut him off and shut him up with another kiss.
~~
Akito and Toya walked back to the spot where they were before, faces both red and holding hands.
“Finally, oh my gods, what took you so long?” An asked, a relieved smile on her face as soon as she saw them holding hands.
They settled down beside Kohane and An.
“Was I really that obvious?” Akito asked, a frown on his face.
“Yes!” An replied, “I cringed every time I saw you flirting with Toya and every time he didn’t understand.”
“Hey, I wasn’t flirting!” Akito responded indignantly. Toya smiled a soft smile and pressed his hand into Akito’s, making a dusty rose color fall upon his face once again. An laughed at this, making Akito glare at her in return.
“So.. Are you guys dating now?” An asked.
“Hmm.. I guess so.” Toya replied for Akito.
“That’s great! Took you long enough.”
Akito rolled his eyes and looked at the sky. “It’s almost sunset- we should start heading back soon.” Toya agreed, getting up and helping Akito up.
As they walked back, Akito and Toya held hands the whole way home.
