JACOB

Should I? Maybe I should not. It’s too early.

The LA sun had just risen, shyly creeping through the curtain. Jacob started his morning per usual; splashed his face then brewed some coffee. It was going to be a slow week without any shoots and just a stack of scripts to read, and the Monday morning felt slow already.

Maybe it’s not too early.

To: Sam Reid

G’day :) How are you? I was thinking if we could catch up today.

Sent.

And two minutes later, after a couple sips of coffee, Jacob started rethinking his message. Had he come up as needy? Too needy? He and Sam just spent an entire evening two days ago, spending some fortune in a sticker shop. The memory inevitably launched a smile on Jacob’s face, because it was indeed a cute and special experience.

Something he never shared with another guy friend.

From: Sam Reid

G’day :) I love waking up to your message. I don’t think I can today, mate. What about Friday?

To: Sam Reid

Yeah, sure! No prob. Friday will do just fine.

From: Sam Reid

See you, then. I’ll be all yours this Friday 🙂

And the morning had gone from slow to nerve-wracking. It’s clear that Sam was annoyed. They just met, and who would want to meet a certain friend within three days, like there was no other purpose in life?

Jacob proposed today, Monday, and Sam just stretched it to the weekend.

You think you’re that special, Anderson?

They spent half a year together, literally day and night, shooting Interview with the Vampire . The promo tour also saw them spending time together a lot, days in a row at times. Could it be that…Sam had grown tired of their meetings? Of my company?

Jacob tried not to really think and over-analyze things. That he’s just setting up another day out with Sam, and it’s successfully planned only on different day. Yeah, nothing to worry about.

See you, then. I’ll be all yours this Friday 🙂

That last line planted a good reassurance, yet at the same time sparked another hope in Jacob’s chest. What if he had fallen in love?

What if I really want you to be all mine, sweet Sam?

SAM

A meeting on Monday, another two on Tuesday. Wednesday was a full press interview and magazine photoshoot day, followed by auditions on Thursday. Waking up today, the much awaited Friday with Jacob, Sam was more than ready.

They ended up just hanging out at a park, ate Mexican then treated themselves with popsicles in the afternoon. Jacob looked so relaxed in his tan t-shirt and maybe rather quiet than relaxed. His ice cream had started to melt down the handle.

“You okay?”

Sam asked casually, answered by Jacob’s small nod. Yeah, that’s not so convincing. Jacob always had a little bit more energy, would always laugh a little bit louder, though they shared the same chill, relaxed mood. There’s something different tonight, and not really in a good way.

And there’s another problem.

“Jacob, stay still,”

Sam held on to Jacob’s wrist and pulled it to his mouth. He licked clean the creamy chocolate liquid that had reached Jacob’s fore finger, but there was even more around the man’s thumb. They had shared this moment before in the series, when Louis sucked Lestat’s thumb in that famous threesome. An artistic choice Jacob made, that was beautiful and perfect for Sam the actor, yet surprising and nerve-wracking for Sam the man.

He couldn’t stop thinking about it for a few sleepless nights.

The night had gotten later, and fewer words had been exchanged. Sam looked up at the beautiful sky, and he was afraid he had ruined this beautiful date. Where do we go from here?

Sam pulled Jacob sideways, away from the light and rather busy pedestrian. This couldn’t be how they’re going  to be from now on. Silent, awkward and nervous.

“I’m sorry if what I did…made you uncomfortable,”

Jacob scoffed nervously.

“No. No, no, no, it’s okay. Thanks, I didn’t see my ice cream was, you know,”

“Yeah, what’s going on, Jacob? Suddenly you just…changed. I’m worried.”

Jacob shrugged it off, but that didn’t stop Sam. He took a step closer and softly cupped Jacob’s slim face. There, a small smile appeared, Sam could see it even under the dim street light. But Jacob’s voice didn’t sound as sweet when he finally fessed up.

“I keep wanting to see you, like…Not in a “good friend” way.”

No way… Sam knew exactly how that felt.

“I just gotta be honest here, Sam, because I can’t keep it any longer. Like…is there any way we could be more?”

Sam felt Jacob’s eyes moving down to his mouth.

“More than friends, more than co-stars. If that sounds bad to you, please let me know. Please let me know and please forgive me. I just need to get it off my chest,”

The fear was apparent in Jacob’s voice, it’s heartbreaking. Their connection and friendship was indeed so precious, and Sam didn’t want to ruin that either. Jacob was so tense under his fingertips; he really needed a hug.

“Come here,”

Sam pulled their bodies together, and he could feel every tense muscle in Jacob’s body. It’s like he’s trying to pull away; he didn’t want to be pitied. He gotta know that he’s just being the braver one, between both of them.

“There’s nothing to forgive, nothing to be sorry for. It only took days for me, since we first met, to feel like I had met my soulmate. No joke,”

Jacob pulled away. His jaw was well dropped.

“I want to whisper ‘good morning” to your ears, not just typing it as I think of your face. I wanna walk the street holding your hand, and tell people Jacob Anderson is my boyfriend. That yes, our bond is even stronger than Louis and Lestat…You don’t know how happy you just made me."

Lovingly, Sam cupped Jacob’s now blushing face.

“So Jacob, yes, I want us to be more, too.”

A chill walk, delish Mexican, melting ice cream, sealed with a kiss by the street. The best thing was, Sam could see that burdening weight had left Jacob. He’s back smiling, and his nervous eyes had a different twinkle. Jacob’s shaky voice had become coarse with passion, as he wrapped his hand around Sam’s waist with confidence.

“Can I take you to my place, Mr. Reid? Hmm?”

“Oh please take me, Mr. Anderson,” Sam laughed to his boyfriend’s smile. “ Take me now. There’s an aisle over there,”

This Friday, he really became all Jacob’s.
