Love is yellow.
"Sunny, what's your favorite color?",
Sunny blankly looked back at kel, slight surprise worn across his face.
"I bet it's boring, like black, or something." Kel said teasingly, making the group laugh.
What was Sunny's favorite color?
He glanced through all of his friends, kel, Aubrey, hero, Mari, and..basil. he looked a little longer at basil, he was smiling softly, holding his camera and looking at sunny. A bubbly and warm feeling crossed Sunny's stomach, was basil always this handsome? His fluffed up golden yellow hair was flowing gently in the wind, his cheeks tinted a soft pink from the cold breeze flowing through the treehouse. His lips were red and glazed from the lipgloss Aubrey lended basil, though it was clear it reddened his lips beautifully. Sunny wondered what they would feel like against his own.
"Sunny? Are you alright, little brother?" Mari asked, knocking sunny out of his trance. He cleared his throat and nodded, averting his eyes from the majestic boy sitting across from him.
Basil let out a soft laugh from Sunny's embarrassed face, Sunny's cheeks reddened even more from the sight in front of him, his chest tightening momentarily.
"Sunnyyyy. Answer the question, this is 21 questions after all. And it's your turn!" Aubrey said, smiling brightly at sunny and looking at him with puppy dog eyes.
"..uhm.." sunny started up, barely a whisper, only being caught by Mari and basil. Mari leaned in closer to sunny, whispering to him to take his time. He thought of colors, all of them, thinking of one he favored the most. One that made him feel happy.
"..yellow, probably." He said softly.

Around 7:30 kel and Hero's mother told them they had to go home, it was getting late.
"See ya, sunny!" Kel gave sunny a high five,(considering how sunny isn't a fan of hugs) and ran off to his house, Mari following along with Hero. Mari and hero just recently made their relationship official, and Kel's parents wanted to have a proper dinner, though both Sunny and Kel's family have had multiple dinners together.
"Hey, uhm, sunny?" Basil put a hand on Sunny's shoulder, which sent sparks down his back, making him tense.
"Do you think..maybe I could spend the night? It's just, I haven't been over in a while and..well..I miss you..'' Basil bit the inside of his lip in a nervous type of tic. Sunny noticed he did that, Basil looking away bashfully before speaking again.
"S-sorry, never mind. It's a silly idea."
"No, it's not." Sunny said, his voice barely above a whisper.
"You can stay if you'd like…I'd like that." Basil's eyes lit up with that sentence, his heart fluttering in the same ways Sunny's was whenever basil smiled.
"Okay! I need some stuff from my house, l-like clothes. Do you think you could walk with me there? It's pretty dark.." basil asked nervously. He's always been afraid of the dark, and Sunny knew that.
"Of course."
The warm smile on Basil's face made Sunny's stomach do flips. Once the two stepped out the door, Sunny could see Basil visibly tense up, it was either the cold weather or the dark sky above them. Sunny looked at Basil, his light blue too-big tee and his denim shorts, his fluffy blonde hair, styled nicely with a pink flower sunny couldn't name off the top of his head. His skin was a pale peach, with freckles splotched across his cheeks and shoulders. His nose was a rosy red from the cold night air, and his light cobalt blue eyes glistened from the stars. His lips were soft and pink. Sunny always found himself gazing at his friends lips, cheeks, and eyes. Everything about the boy was perfect. Sunny looked at basil's hands, which were at his sides, shaking slightly. Sunny wanted to hold them.
He wouldn't mind, right? He is scared.
Sunny brushed his hand against basil's, deathly afraid of rejection. To his surprise, Basil reciprocated by intertwining both their Pinky's.
"S-so, did you want to do anything in particular tonight?" Basil fiddled with the necklace he wore, twisting the small jar of lilac between his fingers. Sunny's breath hitched from the question. He looked at Basil, who was already looking at sunny. Well, looking at his lips to be exact. Sunny's heartbeat increased ever so lightly, his cheeks tinted a deep red. He intertwined his fingers with basil's gently, looking at the sidewalk ahead of them.
"Well look at that, we're here! I forget how little of a walk this is." Basil pulled his hand away from Sunny's, opening the door and greeting Polly.
"I'll be just a minute, sunny." Basil said with a small smile, leaving sunny with a confused Polly.
"Hi, sunny! Thanks for…dropping basil off?" Sunny started up, his voice louder than he has spoken in a long time.
"He was gonna stay the night at my house."
Polly smiled.
"Oh! Good. He hasn't had much fun lately."
Basil came out of his room with his backpack, assumingly filled with clothes and necessary needs.
"Okay, we can go now, Sunny!" Basil sounded slightly in a rush.
"What's got you in such a rush?" Polly said, in an almost assuming tone. Basil scoffed at Polly's teasing and grabbed Sunny's hand, a genuine smile on his face. Basil definitely seemed more excited than he has been in a while, a bit more open and confident. Sunny liked it. He liked how Basil felt comfortable enough with Sunny to be himself. The walk back to Sunny's house was uneventful, besides the burning sensation in Sunny's cheeks from being so close to basil, their fingers being intertwined. The warmth from Basil's hand in his made it hard for Sunny to think straight, so he decided to just listen and nod his head.
"Sunny? Are you okay?" Basil asked quietly. Sunny was so focused on trying to calm his nerves he hadn't noticed they arrived at his house. He nodded, opening the door for the both of them. Basil walked in first, not letting go of Sunny's hand, causing him to trip.
"Oh! Sorry sunny-" basil caught sunny, grabbing his shoulder with one hand and placing the other on Sunny's chest. The contact sent sparks through Sunny, quickly gaining red in his face. They're close proximity meant that Sunny could feel basil's breath on his own, which surprisingly smelt like mint gum. Sunny glanced up from Basil's lips to meet his eyes, which were aimed at Sunny's own. Basil looked at Sunny, the both of them simultaneously moving closer, basil's eyes slowly flickering closed before-
"Mew!" A small black cat brushed up against Sunny's leg, making both boys jump away from each other.
"Oh..it's just mewo." Sunny whispered before bending down and petting mewo. Basil's heart was beating out of his chest, his palms were clammy and his face was hot. Did he really almost kiss Sunny? His best friend who he's been crushing over for years? Basil put his hands over his cheeks to regain composure, taking a deep, shaky breath before speaking quietly.
"May I pet her?"
"Of course." Sunny responds with a smile. Though, he was totally internally freaking out. He almost kissed basil. Like, for real. They're lips almost touched. Sunny could feel his heartbeat throughout his whole chest, his hands were shaking slightly and he felt all warm and bubbly again. Sunny smiled to himself, entertaining the fact that Basil did not pull away. Maybe Basil had a crush on him too.
"Let's go upstairs!" Basil said, standing up and rushing to the stairs, stopping to look behind himself to see if Sunny had followed, which he was. Basil smiled at sunny, waiting for him to catch-up patiently.
"I'm coming, sorry." Sunny said quietly before running up to basil. Basil grabbed his hand, a habit from when they were younger. When sunny was younger he hated going down stairs, he always felt as if he was going to fall. But whenever basil was over, he would hold his hand to make sure he didn't. It's a thing the two have done for years, and haven't stopped, it's not like either of them want to. Once the two got to Sunny's room, Basil sat on Sunny's bed, tapping next to him as an invitation to sit by him. Sunny Obliged, sitting next to basil and looking at him. Basil smiled, for what could be the 100'th time that day. Basil huffed out a small, breathy laugh before laying down, legs dangling off the edge of the bed and arms resting on his stomach. Sunny followed, mimicking the same pose as basil.
"What.. happened?"
"What?"
"To us. What happened to us, sunny?" Sunny looked at Basil, who was looking like he was about to cry.
"N-nothing, basil. We're okay."
"You say that, but you know we aren't." Basil's voice was quiet, almost a whisper. A tear streamed down his right cheek as he sniffled before talking again.
"I like you, so much, but I feel like you don't like me. I feel like you hate me." Basil was crying now.
"After all I did you, how could you like me? God, I'm so stupid for thinking you would love me, I'm such an idiot." Basil sat up and brought his knees to his chest, burying his head in his arms.
"That's not true, i-"
"You what? You what, sunny? There's nothing to say!" Basil barely ever shouted, but with so much pent up emotions, he had to.
"I..I do love you.." sunny whispered.
"W-what?" Basil sniffled and wiped his cheeks, though his face was still contorted into an upset expression. Sunny didn't know what to do. His best friend was sitting next to him, sobbing his eyes out because he loved him. Basil loved him. And he didn't believe that sunny had loved him too.
"I do love you, basil."
"No you don't, your just saying that to make me feel better." Basils bottom lip quivered, and tears streamed down his face again.
"You don't, you don't, you don't, you don't." Basil murmured repetitively while burying his head into his arms once more.
"Yes, I do. I do basil. I love you. I love you so, so much." Sunny wrapped an arm around basil's shoulder, placing a hand on his forearm. Basil's sobbing continued.
"Basil, look at me, please.." basil slowly lifted his head and looked at Sunny.
"You..you can't! Not after everything I've done!" Basil was crying so much that he was choking on his own breath, and his hands were shaking.
"Basil, calm down, please, your okay, I'm here, and I love you. I've always loved you." Sunny said in a low, calming voice before bringing basil's head to his chest, hugging him tightly. Basil tensed before wrapping his arms around sunny, tears still streaming down his face, and most likely staining Sunny's black T-shirt. Sunny softly played with basil's hair and whispered positive affirmations into basil's ear every now and then, untill basil was fully calmed. Basil slowly lifted his head and looked at Sunny.
"I'm sorry, sunny.."
"Your perfectly fine, you didn't do anything wrong." Basil smiled weakly at sunny, and sunny smiled back.
"Did you.. did you mean it?"
"Mean what?"
"When you said you loved me."
"Well, of course..I have since we were kids.."
"Really?"
"Mhm." Basil lightly laughed, and then carefully placed a hand on Sunny's cheek.
"I..i love you too." Basil said, cheeks turning red as he was slightly embarrassed. Sunny's heart fluttered. Hearing basil say those words directly towards him made his heart warm. Sunny smiled before leaning in slowly.
"Can I kiss you, basil?" Sunny asked, voice lower than a whisper.
"Of course."
