Work Text:
You were moving from one patient to another when you saw Kili sitting up in his bed, again. He was looking around him, trying to see if any of the healers were watching. They were not, and he probably thought he could sneak out, but you strolled up to him and placed a hand on his chest, pushing him down on the bed.
"How many times do I have to tell you that you need to lie down?" You groaned as he tried to sit up yet again, and you pushed him down.
"You will tear your stitches if you keep doing that." You complained, but he just smirked. Oh, that smirk. You didn't know if you wanted to strangle him or kiss him senselessly.
"I have duties to attend to." He tried to argue with you, but you lifted a finger up when he tried to sit up again.
"There are no duties for you until you are fully healed." You stated firmly, placing a book into his hands.
"Now. Lay down and stay still." You turned to leave, and you heard a sigh from behind your back, but when you sneaked a look at him over your shoulder, he hadn't sat down. You sighed in relief and returned to your previous task.
You had just finished binding a horrid gash on a warrior's leg when Frili, the head healer, called your name.
"Y/n, would you try and keep the prince in his bed." You whipped yourself around, and Kili was sitting up again, trying to hoist himself up from the bed.
"Kili!" You hissed as you stormed over to his bedside and shoved him down, slightly more aggressively than you originally had meant.
"How many times do I have to tell you to stay laying down? You will tear the stitches and the wound will open again! And then the healing process will have to start all over. Is that what you want?" You sighed, rubbing your face with your hands, exasperated with the prince's stunts.
"But I want-" You cut him off.
"No."
"But-" Kili tried but you were determined to keep him in that bed.
"No."
"But I need to-"
"You need to lay down."
"I-"
"No. Lay down." With that, you walked away, and he was left lying there, staring after you with a longing look.
Kili knew perfectly well that he should just lay still and the wound would heal up rather quickly, but he couldn't help himself. It was nice when you came to see him, even if it was just to nag and tell him to stay still. He also knew that if his uncle caught wind that he wasn't resting and doing his best to heal, it wouldn't be pretty. He actually wanted to heal as fast as he could, but he couldn't help it, he just wanted you to spend more time with him! You were so busy, he couldn't just ask you to spend time closer to his bed.

It had taken Kili a full two months to heal so he could walk normally. He still couldn't lift anything heavy or participate in a lot of tasks, but at least he wasn't bedridden anymore. He still had to (much to his delight) be checked by you every day so that the wound was healing properly and the stitches were holding. Seeing you in the pungent-smelling tent was definitely one of the favorite parts of his day, as he was stuck writing all kinds of letters and papers as he couldn't help rebuild the kingdom. He had tried to seem nonchalant or even uninterested to see you, but Fili could see right through his brother's theatrics and the joy in his eyes as he hurried to see you every day. He decided that he should tease him a little bit.
"What are you so happy about?" He asked, faking ignorance, as Kili was practically skipping to see you.
"Oh, nothing." Kili's speed died down. There was a silence and Fili could almost hear Kili's brain working as he tried to come up with an excuse.
"Y/N said that yesterday that if I would look good I might be able to help with some small repairs soon." There was clear fake excitement in his words at the thought of being able to help, but the melancholy of not seeing you as often was clearly in the background.
"Oh cut the crap, Kili, I know you like Y/n." Fili huffed, and Kili stiffened for a moment but recovered soon.
"Of course I like her, she's a great fri-"
"Oh don't play that card with me, I know you well enough to know that you are head over heels for that woman." Fili rubbed his temples with his fingers.
"I don't know what you are talking a-" Fili smacked him on the back of the head, tired of the theatrics. Kili rubbed the spot with an offended look in his eyes.
"If you want to ask her for a walk, do it soon. I heard that Gunri is interested as well. Kili let out an involuntary shiver and added speed to his steps.
Kili's palms were sweating slightly around the bouquet of flowers he was holding as he walked toward the part of the kingdom where the healers did their work. He reached the hall in record time and quickly strolled to the space that had been permitted for your use, separated from the area with dark veils of fabric. He cleared his throat, hoping that his voice didn't come out as weird.
"Y/N?" There was a small shuffling sound of paper inside.
"Kili? Come inside and sit." He ducked between the curtains and saw you sitting next to your desk, writing something on a piece of parchment.
"I'll check on you soon, I just need to finish this."
"No hurry," Kili assured you, his eyes traveling on you. Your hair was done up in a messy bun, your clothes were wrinkled and your eyes were heavy with exhaustion, but you were still so stunning.
You clapped your hands together and turned around.
"Let me see that wound..." Your voice trailed off when you saw the flowers in his hand.
"Y/N, would you like to go on a walk with me today?" Kili asked, voice hopeful and nervous as he handed the flowers to you. You grabbed them, your movements stiff as you were still working out what Arda was going on. You had harbored a crush on Kili since the first day you had treated him, but hadn't thought anything would come of it as he was a prince.
"Uh." Was all you could answer, your sleep-deprived brain was behind that masterpiece.
"Ummm, yes?" Your answer sounded more like a question, and Kili tipped his head like a puppy, making you want to squish him to death with a hug. How could he be so cute?
"Yes, I'll go for a walk with you. But first, I need to check that wound." Kili huffed but sat down and allowed you to take a look at the healing injury. This time the checkup was less tedious as he knew he would be able to spend time with you, without talk of injuries or continuous orders to lay down and be still.
