Taliyah drew a deep breath.
This was it, wasn’t it? Another year down.
She had learned so much, about herself, the world, about being a Star Guardian… about everything, really.
It was hard to believe it had all happened in a year.
“Taliyah! There you are!” Rell called out from behind her. “You just left the party. Kai’Sa’s worried, y’know.”
Taliyah turned to face her best friend, only to notice that she wasn’t alone - Seraphine literally hung off of Rell’s shoulder.
“Talllllllllllli!” Seraphine called. “C’me back to the partay…”
Taliyah gave Seraphine a nervous smile. “Is she… drunk?” she asked Rell.
“Nah, just sleep deprived.” Rell explained. “She was up all night writing a ‘perfect surprise love song’ for New Years, but I evidently didn’t think about how no sleep could hinder her ability to actually… sing it.”
“I can still sing!” Seraphine argued, before wrapping her arms around Rell and attempting to sing. “ Are you the sweet invention of a lover's dream? Or are you really as wonderful as you seem ?”
Rell awkwardly laughed. “Uh. Thanks sweetie, but I don’t think that’s the song you wrote.”
Seraphine’s jaw dropped. “What do you mean? It so is.”
“No,” Taliyah replied. “That’s the song we sang together five years ago. In the school play.”
Seraphine let go of Rell and turned to Taliyah, inspecting her closely.
“Nooooooooo,” Seraphine said. “We didn’t know each other then. We met as Star Guardians! Remember?”
“No, we met before,” Taliyah replied, fidgeting awkwardly. “You were Cinderella. I played… Prince Charming. Remember?”
Seraphine’s eyes went wide with recognition.
“OH! Yeah. We did,” Seraphine shouted, before wrapping Taliyah in a hug. “Nice to re-meet you Taliyah. I like your gender - don’t tell the other genders, but girl is my favourite.”
“Uh. Thanks?” Taliyah replied. “It's definitely my favourite gender to be, at least...”
Seraphine let Taliyah go and smiled. “Hey, uh, Rell and I were just at a party. Would you like to join us?”
“Taliyah was also at that party,” Rell said with a sigh.
Taliyah just laughed. “Yeah, sure… I just was collecting my thoughts. It’s been, uh, a long year.”
“Such a loooooooong year,” Seraphine agreed. “So many highs and lows… Hey! We could write a musical about that!”
“Not until you get some sleep,” Rell replied walking over and wrapping her arm around her girlfriend’s shoulder. “You good, Taliyah?”
“Yeah,” Taliyah replied, smiling at Seraphine. “I’m good… Let’s go.”
