rantaro took a sip of his coffee as the clock struck 11 pm. he was currently in kokichi’s apartment to celebrate the new year. curled on his lap was kokichi’s cat, dice, who purred while rantaro pet her.
”one more hour, huh?” he muttered allowed. rantaro took another sip, his elbow on the couch’s arm rest. on the other side of the couch we’re kokichi and angie, both of whom were very close to each other—physically, he might add.
the holidays were usually like this, all three of them hanging out for the entire day. just that christmas, actually, the three of them spent an entire day last minute shopping for each other as a bet. he was gifted a clay turtle by angie and an ankle length dark green dress by kokichi. where kokichi got the money for it he decided not to question about it. he got both of them photo albums that had pictures of all the weird adventures they went on together throughout the year. the gifts they got each other were very unique.
kokichi had gotten angie a fox plushy, a bracelet with her full name but was decorated with the colors purple, white and black, and a fake bouquet where the flowers were made with ribbons and the bouquet was in the shape of a heart. angie got kokichi a pearl necklace with a dice in the middle, a collar for kokichi’s cat and himself (which was weird in itself), and a small painting that had all three of them, though kokichi and angie were drawn holding hands.
in rantaro’s eyes, they were dating. in each other’s eyes they were “really good friends.” it was either they were both very oblivious or they weren’t ready to be open about their relationship. he hoped it was the latter, rantaro knew how smart and psychologically talented the two were.
his eyes focused on the tv, the current show broadcasted the many people of japan in traditional kimonos and yukata’s as they awaited the new year. there were multiple festivities going on, and he even swore he was korekiyo and shuichi walking in the background in one scene.
he quickly took out his phone and swiped a pic of the two. rantaro thought it was good to save it for later, either to tease them or lightly blackmail them.
a giggle was heard near him, dice mewled and crawled off his lap and onto the floor. rantaro peeked over at the other two in the apartment. kokichi leaned against angie who was at the other end of the couch, the girl had one arm around kokichi’s shoulders with the other holding his hand.
“meow” rantaro perked up and looked towards the kitchen. dice was sitting near her food bowl as she made doe eyes towards rantaro. he chuckled as he got up from the couch, placing his coffee on the take in front. he got the cat food from the cabinet above the sink. he pet dice’s head as rantaro filled the food bowl, then placing the cat food back inside the cabinet.
”yo, could you grab the both of us a soda?” kokichi called out to rantaro. he motioned towards the fridge and looked at the overwhelming amount of grape panta inside. “…i’m assuming grape panta?” rantaro turned to look at the duo. angie giggled and poked kokichi on the forehead as he nodded his head.
rantaro sighed with a smile, grabbing two grape panta’s and closing the fridge door. he walked back over to the couch and gave the soda’s to his friends. rantaro sat back down on his end of the couch and picked up his coffee.
”no way,” angie began as she looked to the tv, “is that shuichi and kiyo?” the three stared at the tv with wide eyes as the reporter for the channel stood in front of both shuichi and korekiyo. rantaro took notice of their matching yukata’s now that he got a better look at them both.
“so do you both have any plans for the new year?” the reporter asked, motioning the microphone to kiyo. “well, for one we both plan to finish our college classes then travel to the philippines during summer.”
all three of them brought out their phones to take photos. the group chat with their high school class was blowing up, as it should. rantaro smiled seeing a flustered shuichi check his phone for a split second on television.
the broadcast then switched back to a clock that portrayed the time, exactly two minutes until twelve. “y’know angie… i think it’d be nice to do something together next year,” rantaro heard kokichi say.
”oh? like what, god is curious as to what you have in mind.” angie held a cheeky smile on her face. kokichi gave a light smile back, his hand caressing a bit of her hair, “maybe we should hang out more… go on a date, maybe?”
“a date, huh? from the kokichi ouma?” angie had a reading tone to her voice. rantaro softy rolled his eyes at the two’s flirting. “that sounds like a dream.” angie giggled.
”i could make it a reality, whaddya say?”
one more minute.
”hmm… where would you take angie? somewhere fancy? somewhere adventurous?”
kokichi chuckled, “i would take angie anywhere, honeslty. long as i have her by my side i’d go anywhere.”
rantaro took another sip of his coffee, watching the countdown get closer and closer to 12 am. currently, the countdown was at ten.
”and i think, as long as i have kokichi by my side i’ll be safe and comfortable.”
nine.
dice crawled back onto the couch and looked for a comfortable spot.
eight.
she proceeded to climb onto rantaro’s lap, curling up in the process. rantaro placed a hand on her.
seven.
“i think i’d be delighted to have angie feel comfortable while at my side. she’s a really beautiful girl and deserves the world, in my opinion”
six.
“kokichi ouma is a great person himself. he doesn’t just deserve the world, he’ll earn the world with his charming smile and alluring words.”
five. four. three. two.
rantaro raised his coffee cup up.
one.
angie cupped kokichi’s cheeks and brought him closer. kokichi closed his eyes as their lips met, the sound of fireworks lighting in the background.
”happy new year,” rantaro spoke, smiling at the other two who continued to kiss. dice climbed off rantaro once again in fear of the fireworks.
suddenly kokichi deepened the kiss by leaning into her more, angie wrapping both her arms around the boy in return. a soft moan came out from both of them. one of angie’s hands grabbed the back of kokichi’s head as her legs squeezed around him.
‘i should leave.’ rantaro immediately thought. he got up, placed his coffee cup in the sink, walked towards the door, grabbed his coat and left.
