Work Text:

Remus lupin woke up alone. alone In the hospital wing. something was very wrong. The clean enviorment was supposed to, and usually was, calming. Not today. He had awoken eith fresh slashed across his chest and a vicious bite mark on his leg. His injuries however weren't his biggest concern. The worrying lack of James, Sirius, and Peter clawed at his mind.

Something was very wrong.

When the curtains parted it was not the long, dark haired individual he had expected, but the one he expected the least.

"What the hell are you doing here, Severus"

It wasent even a question. Remus glared at the slytherin boy warily. Where Snape was trouble usually followed. Severus glared in return before his reedy voice cut through the room.

"Suprised Black isn't here pestering you, but I suppose that means you don't know"

"Don't know what?" Remus asked warily

    "I know, Remus"

If a pin had been dropped in the infirmary at that moment it would've been louder than a bomb.

Wisps of memory drifted back to Remus. A flash of teeth here, a scream there. He looked back to Severus whose expression held both fear and disgust. His eyes widened slightly, realization hitting him like a brick.

"Oh god.... Did I hurt you?" He whispered, knowing that even if the slytherin boy was fine he would never forgive himself. Severus nodded, "yeah.... James saved me" he whispered in return with a snarl at the fact he had been rescued from certain death by 'Saint potter'. Remus breathed a slight sigh of relief, leaning back against the bed frame.

A sudden whip of curtains revealed the form of a very upset Sirius Black. His hair was a mess as he glanced guiltily from Remus to Severus. He looked as if he wanted to speak, opening and closing his mouth like a dead fish. Severus interrupted his silent blubbering with an accusation that caused Remus's blood to run cold.

"Black. Would you like to explain how I found myself at the shrieking shack last night? Or would you like to explain why you sent me there yourself"  Severus hissed.

Sirius's eyes widened and he looked to the ground. Remus glared at his friend, feelings of betrayal highly obvious in his expression.

"I- Remus, I really didn't mean any harm... it was just a mistake" Sirius blurted. Remus's feelings of hurt bubbled into rage.

"A mistake? A fucking mistake? I could have gotten expelled or worse because of your stupidity. I could have list everything I've worked to protect. In not like you, Black. I don't have a safeguard on my life. I'm not purebred, he'll I'm not even fully human. You are a stupid fucking idiot if you think you can call what happened-" he gestured to himself and Severus, "- a mistake. You did this on purpose and you could've ruined my entire life and you sure ruined our friendship" Remus yelled, his voice echoing through the thankfully empty infirmary.

Sirius looked as if he was about to cry. He had taken the yelling with Valor but the final words Remus had shouted broke him. He wiped away a stray tear that had managed to drift down his cheek and he turned, running out of the hospital wing.

"I wont tell anyone, Dumbledore made me promise" Snape muttered, though Remus didn't make any move to assure the sytherin that he had heard him. He stared off into the direction where Sirius had run and mentally cursed himself. Not for yelling, not for losing his temper. He was angry because he could let him go. He didn't notice when Severus left, all he could think about was the fact that even though the inky haired Sirius Black had almost ruined his life,

    He still loved him.
