Egg-Parents

Summary:

A fluffy drabble I wrote when the Easter Art 2022 was released. Minami tries to adopt an egg and Haruka ends up jealous.

Notes:

This is fluff and comedy and is not to be taken seriously. I found it in my notes app just now and thought I'd share.
Enjoy! <3

Work Text:

"Minamiii, we have to go. Now."

Haruka stomped his foot onto the ground, whining loudly. Minami found himself musing that he seemed to be about close to tears.

And, for just the shortest amount of time, Minami wondered what it would be like to push him to the brink. The sadist in Minami wanted to push Haruka's buttons until he broke down crying.

They had just finished the dress rehearsal for an Easter photo shoot. Torao and Touma had had their fittings yesterday and in a week, they would come together with Idolish7, Re:vale, and Trigger to take the final pictures.

Minami was sitting on a box of equipment, legs pulled up, arms wrapped around a giant easter egg.

They were all given an overly large easter egg to pose with for the photos. And it was also the cause of Haruka's current distress.

"No. You will not be separating me from my spawn."

"Don't call it a spawn! It's a chick, Minami!"

Minami had declared the egg his descendant half an hour into the fitting. He had cradled it close to his torso and had jokingly promised not to let go of it ever again.

Minami laughed. "I would guess it was a human if I was to give birth to it."

Haruka flushed a deep shade of red. He averted his gaze, just to be fumbling for words the next moment.

"Y-You're a man, Minami. Men don't give birth."

"I am glad you remembered something from your biology class. But I beg to differ."

"Minami! Stop!" Haruka's voice was an octave higher than usual.

Minami felt just the slightest bit of remorse, but he found Haruka's frustration quite amusing.

"Just. Okay, just. Take the egg home, then. I'm sure the staff won't mind it?" Haruka offered, trying to find a compromise.

Minami swallowed the smile that threatened to show on his face. "Will you help me raise it?"

It felt like the studio around them had gone silent the instant Minami had said this. It hadn't. The staff was still bustling around, rummaging and storing away equipment.

Nobody was paying them any attention.

Haruka's mouth opened and closed a few times. It seemed he was searching for something - anything - to reply to that.

Eventually, he hid his beet-red face behind his hands and crouched low, escaping Minami‘s attentive gaze.

"Why are you doing this?"

Minami cocked his head to the side. "Doing what?"

Haruka still didn't look up. He vaguely gestured towards the egg in Minami's lap.

"Oh? But I thought you liked dinosaurs. They also lay eggs, don't they?"

This time, Haruka did look up. His expression was a single question mark. It told him he seriously thought Minami had gone insane.

Tears were pooling at the bottom of Haruka's eyes. How adorable.

Minami leaned forward, cradling Haruka's face in his palm.

"I am sorry. I did not mean to upset you."

"Yeah, you did!" Haruka shouted.

This got the staff around them to look up, puzzled expressions on their faces as they eyed the scene in front of them. Minami wondered just how ridiculous he must look to them.

He chuckled. "Well, yes, perhaps I did."

"Why do you have to be so mean?" Haruka whined. He pressed his cheek to Minami's thigh, just next to the egg prop.

Perhaps he was trying to get Minami's attention. If so, he succeeded.

"I thought you liked me." Haruka's voice was low, barely audible. But Minami heard it nonetheless.

He put the prop onto the ground and leaned in further, pulling the boy that rested on his lap in closer.

Minami's hand stroked Haruka's hair, fingers lingering on the strands that had been spared by the enormous amount of hair gel and spray they had used on it.

"I do. Believe me, I am truly sorry. Will you forgive me this time?"

Haruka turned his head, hiding his face from Minami.

"No."

The answer was muffled, but it came as a shock to Minami, nonetheless.

"No?"

"No! Because if you took back what you said then that means you don't want to have a family with me!"

Minami blinked in surprise. "When did I ever say such a thing?"

But Haruka didn't answer. Instead, he grabbed onto Minami's shirt, burying his face deeper into the other's thigh.

"Don't just say things like that and then take them back as if you didn‘t mean them."

Minami sighed. He gently pulled Haruka's hands free from where they were grabbing the fabric of his shirt and took them into his own.

"At the sweet age of 17, don't you think you are a bit too young to be thinking about such things as founding a family?"

Haruka stared at him. "You're only two years older than me!"

Minami ignored him. "Will you forgive me if I promise you that there is no one in this world I could love more than I love you?"

Haruka gaped at Minami‘s bold choice of words. His hands grew sweaty atop Minami's knees and he tried to hide his blush.

"Really?"

Minami's gaze softened. His smile was faint but clearly sincere.

"Really."

For a moment, they just sat there, looking at each other as if they were the only two people in the world.

It wasn't until a staff member uttered a farewell that they pulled apart, realizing just how suggestively close they had been.

"Thank you for your hard work," Minami said, all manners and formality.

As the studio cleared and the people flocked out the doors, Minami re-directed his attention to Haruka. He was looking up at him, wide puppy eyes and lips pulled to a pout.

“I want to kiss you.” Haruka’s voice was low but firm. And only just now did Minami notice that the younger’s eyes were trained, not on him, but on his lips as if asking for silent permission.

Minami turned his head, hoping it hid the red blossoming on his cheeks. “Isumi-san. That is what apartments and private rooms are for.”

Haruka got up so that they were close to eye level. It seemed Haruka was preparing himself for something and just before Minami could pause to ask what it was, Haruka had placed his hands on either side of Minami’s head, effectively pressing him up against the wall behind him.

“Isumi-…san?”

“If you want my child, you just have to ask me.”

Minami blinked. He had not expected that. He spared the egg that rested next to them a glance before he looked at Haruka again.

“I am….sorry?”

Haruka’s cool demeanor fell in an instant. Face the shade of a tomato, he sank to the floors. His knees were wobbling and Minami was convinced that Haruka hadn’t cried yet, it was all the more likely he would do so now.

“Minamiii. Don’t do that to me, you’re cruel.”

Accompanied by a heartfelt laugh, Minami sank to the floor next to Haruka.

“Do excuse me,” he said, pulling Haruka in for a hug.

Haruka’s voice came out muffled against Minami’s shoulder. “So…We’re not going to be egg-parents?”

In lieu of a reply, Minami turned his head to press a kiss to Haruka’s hair. “I love you, Isumi-san.”

“You didn’t answer my question!”

Minami patted the egg that still rested on the ground next to them. “I think we would like to try to spend a little time alone with you. Just us two together, before we make any long-term decisions.”

Haruka let out a huff of air. “Alright. So. Does that mean you like me better than that egg?”

“How could I not? I love you to the moon and back, Isumi-san.”

“Heh. I love you too, Minami. …To Pluto and back.”
