Work Text:
Jotaro always liked spending Christmas with his grandpas. The tales told by the crackling fire, Grandpa Joseph’s magic tricks, Grandpa Caesar’s Italian meals, it generated a feeling of warmth Jotaro had never seen between his mother and father. As if he ever got to see his father. As always, he was too busy to spend Christmas with his family.
“Holly! Jotaro! It’s been so long! How old are y’a now son?”
“Six!” He held up six fingers in Joseph’s face
“Wow! Six! I can’t believe it! Time sure slips by.”
“Jojo, can you drain the pasta?”
“Our gests are here Cae!”
“That’s great but can you take care of the pasta first? I’ve got like 7 other things I gotta do!”
“Ugh, fine! I’ll be there in a moment. Please, make yourselves comfortable while Caesar and I finish up the food.”
Jotaro takes his shoes off and follows his mom, Holly, into the dining room.
“Holly!”
“Ma!” Jotaro watches as his mother and Grandma Suzi Q hug.
“How was the flight? Is the time change affecting you much?”
“Oh, we might be a little off our schedules but it’s always fun to bring my little Jojo to America.” Holly ruffles Jotaro’s hair.
Just then, Caesar and Joseph place an array of dishes on the table.
“Fettuccine al dente,”
“Bread”
“…Caesar’s amazing Chickpea salad!”
“Soup. Red soup.”
“It’s tomato… well for desert, we have-“
“Muffins!”
“No Jojo, it’s Panettone.”
“Same thing.”
“No it’s not- whatever. Mangia! While it’s hot.”
After eating a delicious meal, Jotaro snuggles between Caesar and Joseph on the couch.
“You know, Jotaro, we have a surprise for you.” Caesar grins
“We do?!” Joseph seems surprised
“Yeah! Remember, with your mom?”
“Ohhh yeah.”
“What? What’s the surprise?” Jotaro shakes Caesar’s arm.
“Well if I told you it, it wouldn’t be much of a surprise now would it?”
Just then, a figure in red and white jumps in front of Jotaro.
“It is I, Santa Santa, ho ho ho ho!”
“Santa?! You guys know Santa?!”
Caesar and Joseph grin at each other, “Of course, we know Santa.”
“I come bearing gifts.” In a swift motion, the figure frisbee-ed a wrapped present to everyone in the room.
After a bit of hesitation, Jotaro rips off the wrapping, and gingerly lifts the lid off of the box holding his precious Santa present.
“It’s a catching Mitt!” His face lights up, eyes widening in disbelief. “Thank you, thank you Santa Santa!”
“Hey, maybe we can play catch with it when it’s not snowing so much, huh, Jotaro?” Joseph gives him a wink, which causes Caesar to chuckle a bit, “I’m so glad you enjoy the present, Jojo nipotino. ”
Gifts were opened, hot chocolate was drunk as well as wine. Jotaro was given grape juice of course. When everyone was hunkered down, Suzi Q suggested they watch a movie. As Jotaro drifted in and out of sleep, Caesar placed a fur blanket over him. Before he was completely asleep, Jotaro heard Caesar whisper something in Italian to Joseph, who at this point was snoring quite loudly. “Merry Christmas, tesoro. Thanks for staying another year with me.”
In a sleep talk-murmur, Joseph seemed to respond, “I love you bubble boy.”
