Chapter Text
Izuku Midoriya knew that in this society, being a Hero was everything, he also knew that not every man was ever born equal. He figured it out for the first time when he never developed a quirk, the words “Sorry kid, it’s not going to happen” bounced around in his head for years. Those words got him bullied at school, those words let the school mess with his tests, those words lost him his best friend Kacchan.
Those words forced his father overseas and his mother to work long hours, just for him to get an accessibility item from one of the only support company that would accept ‘people like him’.
But that falls under the second time he learned about everyone not being equal.
He was just about 13 when it happened. He was on his way back from school when a villain started causing chaos from out of nowhere. He just started to analyze the villain's quirk, metal blade, and the fight with Endeavor.
“The villain has a quirk that allows them to generate blades on their body? This means the number 2 hero Endeavor needs to heat up the air so the metal becomes just barely hot to touch, making the metal in the villain’s blades cumbersome to hold, but if he hits it with a direct stream of fire that could make his blades more dangerous, while aggroing the villain. Maybe if the villain had an iron deficiency-“
His train of thought was interrupted when the villain grabbed him and held a sword to his neck, threatening Endeavor to ‘back off or the kid gets it’, although Izuku couldn’t remember every detail clearly past a certain point coming up, because Endeavor didn’t listen to the villain and rushed them, spewing fire at the villain, who blocked with his blades.
If Izuko was asked if he remembered what happened next, he’d say no, that he didn’t remember the agony of the newly super heated blade barely missing his chest, striking his limb, cutting clean though, and the screams, his or the crowd’s he didn’t know as the white hot agony burn his now phantom limb.
He would admit he did remember the hospital trying to save his arm but his stump was cauterized, not that it mattered as the hospital staff gave up fixing his arm as soon as they realized that he was Quirkless.
With any legal action against the hospital or the second best hero being fruitless, the hero-obsessed society moved on from the case quickly, with Izuko returning to school earlier than he and his parents wanted. Even though Izuko expected the worst, but the second some random classmates started picking on him, Bakugo slammed his hand on his desk and loudly shouted at everyone.
“LISTEN HERE YOU EXTRAS! Almost anyone can become a hero regardless of their disabilities and if I hear you talk shit about Deku because of his arm I WILL blow you to smithereens!”
The whole class was stunned at Bakugo’s declaration, and while Midoriya was touched with his statement it didn’t last long.
“Comparing useless Deku and someone with a disability is an insult to the disabled community, so don’t you dare insult him for his injuries again!”
Needless to say, Midoriya went home a little confused, but at least the school issue was… resolved?… back to normal.
But everything changed the day a rising support gear/gaming company showed off their newest product, a super advanced prosthetic hand that can boost one’s reflexes and grip strength. It was designed originally for the company’s own workers called Meta Runners but was currently available to anyone who needed it.
Which led Izuko outside of TAScorp’s main headquarters.
It took time to get there, (his parents weren’t exactly wealthy beforehand) but to him it was a step toward becoming a hero, to stand strong in the face of adversity and keep moving forward.
This was a part of his path to̴ b̵e̵comi̵ng̸ a he̴r̴o.

I am currently moving and a terminally slow writer because of my dyslexia so I may take… a year to update but I will.
Chapter 2: What it takes to be a Meta Runner
Summary:
Hey… it’s been a while, life really kicked me right out of the gate, anyway this isn’t dead, I am just suffering with life and rent, hopefully everything goes good now so you won’t get the next update by the time valve counts to three
Notes:
I’m hoping to put in a guide here for the different styles used, but I’m still finding out the bolt text and how to get it here, I will get on it eventually

Izuku woke up to an explosion in the distance as he filled with panic, not remembering how he got to... a room was filled with medical equipment, everything from ranging from surgical scalpels to pills laying around half haphazardly and monitors displaying a brain scan, vitals and other medical and technical information.
As he brought his hand to his head he realized something, a second weight that moved with his arm in sync to meet his head, he felt it plant itself against his head to help hold it before he and it jolted away from each other.
As he gained more awareness of the object he realized that the weight was a metallic arm that was connected just a little bit past his elbow, not unlike the one he was supposed to apply for. It was exactly what he wanted… with the downside of waking up in a creepy room in a tank top, shorts, and sandals with no memory of getting there or any Tascorp employees, who would have been there when he woke up if he officially went through the surgery.
So needless to say that he was more than a little freaked out.
As the newly minted meta runner tried to backpedal away from his early new arm he also noticed a tug at his hopefully 100% organic and not a science experiment forearm.
A clean IV bag on a semi rusty pole was hooked up to his arm, which didn’t help with the mad scientist vibe. More panicked than ever, Izuku removed the needle from himself and moved to stand up, only to get very dizzy.
“Maybe that wasn’t…” he said to no one before his vision to fade.

Izuku didn’t even remember going through the door, he only remembered stumbling against a wall, light from the new hallway he found himself in was burning his eyes. He continued forward, half hobbling half falling forward and catching himself, reaching for the exit with his new arm as faint memories of explosions echoing through his head, so real that the walls seemed to shake.

Izuku fell out of the hallway, no, the alleyway he was in, headache receding as he looked at the city he was in awe.
This city looked like it had just experienced a technical boom, there were big screens everywhere with hundreds of hero products. Everything was being displayed from a new hero called Mt. Lady’s debut, to products (Izuku had seen All Might SMASH cereal before, but it looked like the branding had been updated.) There were even more mundane products being advertised like TV shows, Video Games, and new public electric cars that were advertised as being 50 times more efficient than a race car.
Izuku could only stand and stare, even as people flooded the streets and cars drove by, marveling at the tech behemoth he was in. He was so entranced barely pulling himself out of his awe at everything when people walked bye, a single stray thought in his head
‘Today will definitely be different’
______________________________________________________________________________
Walking through the streets, all Izuku could think about was how he got to this unknown city, why he was in that makeshift medical room, and of course dealing with his new arm. Usually a standard meta runner arm takes weeks of getting used to, he actually remembers a new upgrade that can help shorten the learning period down to a week, but despite the shock Izuku was moving his arm perfectly with no motor issues or dysphoria that plagued most new meta runners.
All these questions seem to relate back to Tascorp, but Izuku couldn’t figure out how they could be involved and more importantly why would
‘Is it possible that I was experimented on? But why would Tascorp do that? Mom and I both checked and it looked like an honest business that was getting really popular, but a lot of good heroes vouched for it, saying it “helped some recently disabled heroes keep up the work.” They even praised how it would help more than just heros, so why would they risk their company on kidnapping someone, and why would they kidnap ME. What else could it be though, did a villain want Tascorp tech? If so why-‘
“Hey that cybernetic arm, you're a meta runner right?”
Izuku was drawn out of his thoughts by a man calling out, the guy that approached him was bald and pale, so pale that his skin was pure white, unlike his glossy black eyes that seemed to move around on his head. If Izuku could describe him it would be as if a cartoon character came to life.
“U-Um d-do you mean me?” Izuku stammered out.
“Yea you the muttering guy.” The odd cartoon man said energetically.
‘Crap did I say all that out loud!’
“Um yea you did.”
‘…Double crap.’ Izuku (100% silently) thought before speaking, “Um y-yeah I guess I am a meta runner.”
“That’s amazing! Most meta runners are older but you’re so young. I bet you can’t wait to become a hero can you?” The odd man said everything so casually that it threw Izuku off a bit.
“Well yea I am trying t-to be a hero, how did you kn-” was all Izuku could get before the sound of a explosion erupted near by, it was undoubtedly real unlike the explosion in Izuku’s vision.
“What was that?” Izuku studdard out. He saw smoke coming from the explosion site and immediately headed towards it, the cartoon man calling out for him to stay put.
Arriving at the scene, Izuku merged with a crowd of people watching the scene before them, a bunch of burning debris showing the damage the culprit caused. Heroes were already surrounding a villain made out of slime, while said villain seemed to have a hostage and was clearly suffocating them as the heroes only stood back.
‘Why isn’t anyone doing anything?!’ The situation wasn’t ideal but the heroes weren’t powerless, Kamui Woods could grab the hostage and pull them out before his branches could burn especially if Backdraft soaked them first, deatharms could grab the victim and pull them out with his enhanced strength, even without all of those options they could just try to negotiate instead of standing aside while the civilian is still alive instead of doing nothing as the villain actively kills the victim!
‘Please be ok, Please be okay, Please be okay!’ Was all Izuku could think as the sludge continued to suffocate its victim. As it moved around details about the civilian became clearer, they were young and clearly still a school student judging by the uniform they had on and the backpack on the ground. As the slime matted they're spiky ash blond hair the victim locked their red eyes with Izuku’s green ones.
He had never seen Bakugo look more desperate.
Before he could even think he took off, running towards his friend/bully.
‘What am I doing, I just moved without thinking!!!’ Was all Izuku could think as he ran forward, trying to think of a plan.
‘The villain’s whole body is made of sludge so even if I hit it full force it won’t do anything but splatter it, I might become just as stuck as Kacchan! Come Izuku THINK, there has to be SOMETHING’
As if summoned by his thoughts something changed, Izuku’s vision filled with images. Screens full of numbers, analytics, all showing him- all guiding him.
[ATTACK HEAD ON - X]
[DISTRACT TARGET SO HEROES COULD INTERFERE - 19%]
[GRAB THE BACKPACK AND THROW IT AT THE TARGET’S EYES USING MOMENTUM - 67%]
Bending down to grab Bakugo backpack, Izuku used his momentum to quickly spin around, throwing the bag at the sludge villain’s eyes.
“AUGHHH, WHAT THE HELL YOU BASTARD!” The villain screeched, not expecting the surprise attack.
[GRAB KATSUKI BAKUGO (ALIAS KACCHAN) IMMEDIATELY - 38%]
[GRABBING SMALL GRAVEL LIKE DEBRIE TO COVER TARGET’S VISION - 46%]
As he was running to Bakugo, Izuku grabbed as many small rocks and rubble in his hand as he could and tossed them into the villain’s still sore eyes. The scream and profanity confirmed that he hit the mark as he desperately clawed at the slime covering Bakugo’s body.
[WARNING DON’T LOOK AWAY FROM-]
“W-WHAT THE HELL! HOW ARE YOU HERE!?!?” Bakugo’s voice cut through Izuku’s focus on the directions, half coughing yet still a yell full of rage and… confusion?
“I don’t know! My legs just started moving when I saw you!!!” It truly was a mystery to why he just ran in, “Kacchan… I JUST COULDN’T STAND THERE AND WATCH YOU DIE!!!” Tears started to form as he made this declaration, though they didn’t block the guide in his vision.
“Good for you kid, NOW YOU CAN DIE TOGETHER!”
[WARNING UNAVOIDABLE ATTACK IMMINENT]
[DODGING - X]
[COUNTERING - X]
[BRACING - 3%]
A wave of sludge rushed toward Izuku faster then he could move, he could only close his eyes and mentally prepare himself, all really excited to lose more than just his arm this time
“I really am pathetic if a random kid does my job better than me. ” A voice called out as it seemed to grow in power “ BUT FEAR NOT CITIZEN, BECAUSE I AM HERE!”
In a blink the sludge surging towards Izuku was blown away by an immense force, freeing Bakugo from the villain’s grasp, a massive hand gently pulled the two boys away from danger in a flash, Izuku opened his eyes and felt immediate relief when he saw the figure in front of him. All Might was there, and he had saved them.
The slime villain’s face was filled with terror as they tried to flee, despite to avoid the symbol of peace, but said symbol just surged forward, an ever present smile on his face.
“LET ME SHOW YOU HOW A PRO DOES THINGS, GO BEYOND PLUS ULTRA!!!”
And with one blow, the villain scattered. Wind rushed through the street putting out most of the fires, those that were left behind were dealt with by the rain that started falling.
“He just changed the weather with one punch…”
______________________________________________________________________________
After All Might defeated the bad guy, everything seemed to happen all at once. All the heros praised Bakugo for his strong quirk and scolded Izuku for he’s recklessness, it was almost enough to distract Izuku from speculating about what happened, almost.
“What was that back there?" he began to mutter, “It was like I was under the effect of someone's quirk, but why would someone use their quirk on me and not some other hero? Who even was the hero who helped me? I haven't heard of anyone with a quirk that can guide other people, maybe they are new? Why is everything so out of control today?”
As he continued to spiral his classmate started shoving his way through the mixed bag of heroes, reporters, and medics to get towards Izuku.
“Why the HELL did you show up now!!!” Bakugo screamed at Izuku, “Answer me Deku, WHY DO YOU SHOW UP OUT OF NOWHERE JUST TO DO THAT!!!”
Izuku flinched at rage in Kacchan’s voice, “M-My feet moved on their own, i-it’s not that I was worried-“
“TO HELL WITH YOUR DAMN EXCUSES!!!” Bakugo shouted before regaining his temper a bit, “Did you think that you could ditch school and not have the Old Hag worry, to just disappear for a YEAR and not think about Auntie Inko’s reaction!”
Time felt as if it slowed down as Izuku felt all eyes get drawn to him. The words seemed to echo in his head as his breathing quickened, he felt limp as if he could collapse as he asked one question in a soft weak voice.
“What do you say?”
