Chapter 1: Chapter 1

Chapter Text

Honestly, Atsumu would rather be anywhere, literally anywhere, and not here, in a cat cafe, totally soaked, staring into the dark eyes of the most handsome man he had ever seen.

But let's take it easy, what occurred was:

Atsumu left the house without an umbrella, since he expected the morning sun to continue in the skies until the end of his work shift. He could have checked the weather forecast, but what's the point, right? But of course nothing went as he expected, and just as Atsumu was walking towards the subway, the grayish clouds that in the blond's point of view seemed harmless, practically exploded, and a storm broke down. He ran as fast as he could, he wasn't even able to see straight, and entered the first establishment that looked like a place where he could spend a little time until the storm ceased.

And here we are, Atsumu is inside the place he entered, but again, nothing can be simple for him, it is not enough that he is exhausted from work, has not been able to sleep properly for months, and has basically taken a rain shower, no, he needs to be in a relatively small and empty environment, only composed of a few pink tables, chairs of the same color, a counter with the barista of the cafe, and of course the most remarkable, the cats, about seven maybe, all of them purring and lounging on the fuzzy rug centered on the floor. So he is in a cat cafe, great, just perfect, considering his allergy to cats.

"Are you going to order something?" the man in front of him asks.

Ah yes, the icing on the cake is not even the cats, but the barista. His hair is dark and curly, looks soft, his skin is like porcelain, and his eyes, dark eyes, anyone would say they are simple, but Atsumu is sure there is a whole universe inside those eyes. But the most intriguing thing is the expression present on his face, or better phrasing it, the lack of expression. No emotion comes through, not a drop of anger, sadness, or even tiredness, it could very well be a robot. Wait, are those little cat ears? Is the robot barista wearing a cat tiara?

"Did you hear me? Are you going to order something?"

Shit, Atsumu was staring too much, shit, he needs to answer in a nonchalant way, to hide the fact that he was simply lost within this man's eyes.

"I think I'll just have a caramel frappuccino, do you recommend anything to eat from here?" The blond says, flashing a charming smile that usually works on everyone.

The barista just blinks and turns to start preparing his order.

"I don't really like anything we sell. Too sweet," he replies simply, without any emotion in his voice, Atsumu finding it very contradictory, considering the uniform he is wearing. "You can sit down somewhere, and I'll bring the coffee to you."

He was shocked, bewildered is a word that would also describe it. Not to take advantage, but no one has ever resisted Atsumu's smile, ever. He sits down at a table, feeling defeated. A cat tries to get close to him, but gives up after hearing the blond's sneeze.

In less than a minute (43 seconds, Atsumu timed it) the barista props the frappuccino up on the table. Atsumu takes this chance to lose himself once again admiring the the other. How can someone be so attractive with that blank face and an apron with kittens on it. Now that they are closer, Atsumu can read the little sign with his name on it, Sakusa Kiyoomi. He could very well be a prototype of a failed artificial human, considering that no trace of emotion shows on his face. The blond man dismisses this thought when he hears the voice of the supposed Sakusa Kiyoomi.

"Anything else?" His eyebrows raise a measly millimeter, and that's when Atsumu focuses on the barista's forehead, who notices the two spots on top of his right eyebrow. In any other circumstance, the blond would not care about this fact, but when he looks at the robot barista, this small detail just becomes something so adorable.

My God what is happening to me, he is just a handsome guy, calm the fuck down.

"Nothing else" At least this Atsumu manages to say without getting in the way. "I just wanted to know, what time do you close?"

"We close at 9, but I don't think the rain will last that long." Sakusa opens his mouth to say something, but with agile eyes he manages to turn around as soon as he sees a white kitten ready to jump out of its scratcher hanging near the ceiling, and catches it with both hands.

Atsumu tries, he really tries with all his might, not to find this simple action attractive, but obviously he was not able to, so he just lowers his head to take a sip of his drink and hide his red face.

I am NOT like that, I do not get red cheeks for any reason, much less for a tall, handsome barista I have known for 15 minutes at most.

"Cookie, this is the third time I've caught you almost jumping, the next time you do this you'll be grounded" Sakusa says to the cat, very low, as if it were a real warning, and Atsumu forces himself not to laugh.

"Look Cookie, I would listen to what Kiyoomi-kun is saying, you never know, right?"

The cat seems to have understood everything, because it looks at Atsumu and meows. Sakusa just leaves the cat on the ground carefully, and turns to the other.

"Kiyoomi-kun? Really?" His speech comes out of his mouth with a skeptical tone.

"That's your name isn't it? Too formal? I can call you Omi-kun then," Atsumu smiles sarcastically.

He knows he's out of line, Atsumu has probably lived his whole life two meters over the limit, at least, but what can he do? It's just the way he is. Of course, calling a person he met today by his first name, especially in Japan, is a pretty crazy thing to do, but in his defense, growing up with a twin brother, everyone calls you by name, it's kind of inevitable not to do that with other people.

"Don't call me that, we don't even know each other," Kiyoomi answers coldly, the blond doesn't judge him.

"But we could" he winks at the other, who just shakes his head and turns to go back to his work space.

It is just at this minute that a fat, fluffy cat jumps directly into Atsumu's lap, who sneezes twice in a row. Yep, cat allergy is still there.

...

In these minutes that Atsumu stays in the cat cafe, he feels his nose getting heavier and heavier, his eyes itching more and more, but he keeps waiting for the rain to calm down. He and Sakusa haven't had a chance to talk again, besides, the other is working. But that doesn't stop the blond from admiring the barista more and more.

After almost half an hour, Atsumu looks at the window behind him, and for the first time he doesn't see any water droplets, the noise of thunder and lightning has also ceased. So with that he gets up and walks towards the counter. Sakusa lifts his head from the cash register and looks at him.

"Looks like the rain has stopped," Atsumu says, taking his wallet out of his pocket, "Too bad, you won't be seeing me again today," he smiles sarcastically. "How much?"

"I always thought that the right way to use the expression 'a pity' was for things we feel bad about, not for situations where we are happy, how strange" Kiyoomi says, acting as if confused, but his expression remains as hard as stone. "¥420."

Atsumu takes the notes from his wallet and places them on the surface in front of him and goes back to talking to the robot model barista Sakusa Kiyoomi.

"I can't believe you're actually happy that I'm leaving" The blond smiles suggestively, but then snaps his fingers, as if he has remembered something "Ah, Omi-kun, could you check the time for me please?"
Sakusa frowns upon hearing his nickname, but takes his phone out of his pocket anyway.

"It's 7:24 PM" It's impossible to make the disinterest gets off of Kiyoomi's voice, Atsumu figures.

"Thanks Omi-Omi, but now that you have your cellphone here with you, just write down my number already" he says, as confidently as possible.

Look, if Atsumu were talking to someone normal, he would have already scheduled a date, flirted five times more and obviously would have taken the person's number, but since we are talking about Sakusa Kiyoomi, the most difficult human being to understand that Atsumu has ever seen (and he has met many people, and has only known him for less than an hour), the blond simply doesn't expect anything.

Actually, he does expects something, expects a refusal, or that Kiyoomi will ignore him, or even a punch in his already swollen nose, holy shit, that is true, Atsumu's face is all red.

Yeah, I'm sure the Greek god with the kitten tiara will say no.

The curly-haired man just goes back to his cell phone, clicks it a few times, and finally holds it out to Atsumu. The blond tries not to look incredulous, but it is almost impossible, so he types his number calmly and quietly, because he is sure that if he opens his mouth he will say something he will regret later.

Kiyoomi looks at his cellphone, and sighs weakly, tiredly.

"Don't make me regret this Miya Atsumu" He puts the phone in his pocket after reading Atsumu's name from the contact. "I'm not kidding"

His gaze would probably break glass, so intense and strong.

"Omi-Omi, you'll love my daily good mornings with pictures of kittens." Atsumu says as he turns to leave, and can hear Sakusa muttering softly "Omi-Omi my ass," but just laughs at that.

Okay, maybe this storm wasn't all bad for Miya Atsumu.
