Pump walked into his home and stretched “ Bella, you in here? “.
It was six and he needed to get dinner ready. He heard the little footsteps and looked below him…
“ Hi daddy! “
“ Hey Bella, how was school? “
“ It was good. “
The chubby man picks her up and replies “ Made any friends yet? “
“ … No. “
“ Bella, do you remember what I told you? “
“ Yeah, but it’s too hard. “
“ I know it can and trust me I know what that was like. “
“ But you make it look so easy. “
The adult put his daughter on the couch and sat down next to her. “ Yeah, but I had a hard time when I was your age. I got picked on because of my body. “. Pump raises his white shirt and squishes his belly.
Bella giggles and the adult smiles a bit. At least he received a giggle that was playful and not someone full on body shaming him. Pump then continues “ It was like that for a while up until I met your dad. “
“ Was skeleton dad your first friend? “
“ Yup. We've gotten closer ever since we both loved Halloween. “
“ Really? “
“ Mhm. Trust me Bella, you’ll find that person. Whether it be finding them or they’ll find you. For your father, it was the second choice. “
The adult pulls his shirt down and pets his child’s head “ Anyways, I’ll go make us some dinner. Just watch some TV for now okay? “
“ Okay daddy! “
Pump grabs the remote and turns on the TV. He finally gets to the channel he was looking for and puts it down. He walked into the kitchen and opened the fridge while sighing.
She was just like Pump when he was her age…
Shy and all that jazz…
But she’ll find her first friend someday…
At least in Pump’s experience…
The adult closes the fridge and opens the cabinet.
Meanwhile…
Bella kept her eyes glued to the TV as she watched the cartoon. She waited until the commercial appeared and fiddled with her fingers…
At first, she thought making friends would be a cool idea…
But ever since her father’s death, she just wanted to be left alone. She knows that her dad wants her to make one friend, but that type of thing has been getting harder.
And now she’s even more afraid. Her father was the first ever friend that Pump made. What if she makes a friend and somehow loses them? She doesn’t want to feel that kind of pain.
She looked up as her favorite show was about to start.
Hopefully she’ll be distracted enough to push that thought away.
