Chapter Text
He was formerly the commander of a Belarusian battalion that had been sent into Ukraine by their dictator in order to support the Russian forces.
He had been a high value target for the Ukrainians for months.
Not because he had risen up the ranks of the Belarusian army and fought in many wars.
But because of his status as the dictator's son.
Nikolai Lukashenko had been detained by the Ukrainians as a POW for almost a month now and after being subjected to the full experience of being a POW in Ukraine - from being interrogated to the SBU to being fed food that was not just plenty, but was surprisingly not poisoned, he had found himself making a decision that surprised even his fellow POWs. He was going to fight in the Kastuś Kalinoŭski Regiment.
And this was how Oleksandra Zelenska met him for the first time when she accompanied her mother on a humanitarian visit to troops who were fighting to Ukraine.
"I liked you in 8 New Dates." was the first thing Nikolai told Oleksandra.
8 New Dates was the first time Nikolai found out of Oleksandra's existence - something about the girl who played Zelenskyy's daughter caught his eye and he always wondered who the actress was and if she was really Zelenskyy's daughter in real life too. Fortunately, staying until the credits rolled for the movie answered his question.
"I also liked your performance in that comedy contest you joined." Nikolai adds, "No one can roast the President like that so easily in my country."
Nikolai almost got the point, except that Zelenskyy had not yet been President when Oleksandra roasted him for a comedy skit when she joined The Comedy Comet Company Comedy's Kids in 2016. Her father was merely a comedy actor back in the day.
"Thanks." Oleksandra said with a curt smile, "I'm always glad to meet a fan." but that one was sarcastic - Oleksandra viewed Nikolai as the enemy, still, even after he decided to fight for Ukraine.
It was the highlight of Nikolai's day and the bane of Oleksandra's.
How dare Nikolai march into her country and talk to her as if he did nothing wrong?
