In The Stars

Summary:

When you look up at the night sky, what do you see first? Do you look for the constellations and try to name them? Do you try to find where the North Star is? Or do you simply just stare in awe of how vast and limitless the galaxy is that you only ever see a small portion of?

But what most people fail to notice, in the small random little pockets of darkness, loosing the brightness, are dying stars that are long forgotten. No one really knows why they fade. It could be that light pollution is killing our view to the sky, but not times than not, it’s because they are starting to die.

Notes:

Hey guys! This is my first fanfic so please be patient with me. This first chapter is more of setting up the stage for the real story. Enjoy!

Chapter 1: The Beginning

Chapter Text

When you look up at the night sky, what do you see first? Do you look for the constellations and try to name them? Do you try to find where the North Star is? Or do you simply just stare in awe of how vast and limitless the galaxy is that you only ever see a small portion of?

But what most people fail to notice, in the small random little pockets of darkness, loosing the brightness, are dying stars that are long forgotten. No one really knows why they fade. It could be that light pollution is killing our view to the sky, but not times than not, it’s because they are starting to die.

In the real world, people are like stars. Some shine brighter than the noon day sun by themselves. Those people have everything going for them. Not a care in the world. Others shine bright but not as bright by themselves. Most people bond together and make a beautiful constellation that attracts others to stand in awe. Those make up most people. But the ones who’s lights fade, are the ones that have been forgotten by society and looked down upon.

In the world of Alpha, beta, and omega, one can start to understand their roles in life. Alphas, have everything given to them. They can command a room with a warning growl or their overpowering pheromones. They are gifted in education, sports and in high end society. They are what everyone what’s to be like and are the most desired.

Betas, make up the mass majority of the population. They are affected my most alphas except the more dominant type. They are more human compared to alphas or omegas, so naturally, they don’t give off of any pheromones.

The ones that are at the bottom, are the omegas. They are far and few to find and make up less that an 2% of the population. Where you would think that they would be more protected because they are so rare, they are actually sectioned off from the rest of the world to protect the alphas from them. So because of this, the only time omegas are actually welcomed into the world, is when they hit college or they were born into a home where and alpha is mated and is raising the family. But even then, all omegas, once presented, have to attend an all omega school to”protect themselves” when they all know they just aren’t wanted in society.

At the age of eight, is when most secondary genders “present”. In reality, it’s more of a blood test they take that show which gene they actually have. Most children don’t actually show their first symptoms until around fifteen. Some families are happy, especially if their child has the alpha gene, others are accepting of it, whether or not they are betas or alphas or even omegas, while other members of the family look down and shunned the poor child, in this case, an omega.

Iwaizumi’s family was more accepting. They didn’t look down upon him because that isn’t something he could control. Unfortunately they were only able to have him because his mother had a lot of medical issues that made her not be able to bare children. So they love Iwa no matter if he is an alpha, beta or omega. They were just happy to at least have the miracle of a child.

Bokuto was a surprise child. He had two older sisters that were alphas, so when he was born, he father was ecstatic to finally have a son be able to take over the family financial business which deals with a lot of major companies. Sadly, when he became an omega, his disappointed father could even bare to look at him. So after a few year of neglect from his parents, his oldest sister took him in and raised him herself

Atsumu was born with a twin, however, while he presented as an omega, his brother presented as an alpha. His father took Osamu, divorced the mother, and made Atsumu and his mother become the outcast in society.

Hinata comes from a long line of all alphas. A few betas here and there but mostly alphas. So when he gets presented as an ‘omega’, he couldn’t remember who hit him first, his mom or dad. After a few weeks of beatings here and there, his parents came to the conclusion that he physically can’t change who his is but he can mentally can and act differently too. So with that in mind, he has been forced to live his life as beta.

From the age of eight and on, Bokuto and Iwaizumi have been best friends. Most wouldn't understand how that pair works but it always did. One was more of the calm, collected, and made sure the other stayed down to earth, while the other was energetic, loud, and always made sure the other was on their toes.

Meeting in elementary school and ending up in the same class, they always looked out for each other. Their first meeting was weird cause neither of them beloved the other was actually an omega until they showed proof that they were.

They spent lots of time at each others house, well mainly Iwa’s unless Bo’s older sister Hana was home. Hana was gifted with the talent of music that the two young omegas fell in love with and begged her to teach them. Hana told Bo that since he can never keep still and has too much eagerly, the drums would be the best for him while Iwa was instantly drawn to the guitar. Learning from Hana and her band became a whole lot easier once her younger brother was basically forced to move in with her and her boyfriend because their parents were tired of having a disappointment in their house.

On the other hand, Atsumu and Hinata met once they were in middle school. At the age of twelve, you are still trying to figure out who you are and for some, that isn’t always easy. Atsumu was always a loud and bright kid who spoke his mind but loved with every fiber of his body. So when he met they ginger, he instantly was drawn to him.

It took a while for Hinata to drop his walls enough for Atsumu to truly see who his best friend was. It broke his heart the more he learned about Hinata’s family and how he has to force himself to change who he is. But never once did that stop the blonde from not loving him like how he deserved.

To prove his point, he would drag the smaller boy to his house every day and basically beg his mom to let him sleep over. His mother welcomed Hinata with open arms and loved and cared for the boy like her own.

In the beginning of their last year in middle school, the two omegas were passing the back up music room after tutoring was over when they heard it. A sound that sounded so freeing that they froze on the spot. When they walked into the room, they saw two other boys playing around on a guitar and drum set. This one encounter was the turning point of all of their lives.

The four of them became quick friends and the two musicians started bringing the other two to all of their band practices, including the ones with Bokutos sister, and all of their performances. By the time they hit high school, Atsumu and Hinata knew the basics and were quick learners, so their skills only got better and better as they all practiced. The only thing you can say they struggled with was when they were trying to figure out what kind of music they wanted to play.

They all were really open to all the different genres out there, so they decided to explore and try each one out. So at fifteen they finally had a few songs that they have written over the past year or two that sounded pretty good for a beginner band like them. However life doesn’t always go to plan when all of a sudden, Iwaizumi announces that he is six weeks pregnant. Atsumu, Hinata and even Hana were all in shock, while Bo just stood there like he knew this was coming. Maybe he was shocked but didn’t show it or he wasn’t shocked because he already knew they alpha that Iwa was seeing and already knew the situation. So after about a hour of Hana pestering him about it, he told them the situation and that he wasn’t on planning on telling the alpha in fear of ruining his life.

He didn’t even want to tell his parents cause his moms medical issues were getting worse and didn’t want to stress them out even more. So Hana, already feeling like this little boy is a younger brother, took it upon herself to let the boy move in with them and help raise the baby only if they talked to his parents. Of course it wasn’t an easy conversation but his parents, gave their approval but demanded to still be apart of his life and the child’s. Nine months later, Iwaizumi had his little girl, Tora.

So with a few set backs here and there along the way, they somehow became one of the best rising bands all over. Of course it was first in just the omega population with school and their community around them, however, it slowly spread to the beta and alpha communities as well. Most people either looked up to them or they didn’t really care, sadly, the smaller group of people voiced their opinions a lot louder than the supporters and started giving the omega band a bad name. Not once did that stop this group from spread light and hope to those around them. They were more than just their secondary genders, they were people first and foremost and deserved the respect from those around them.

However all good things must come to an end at one point or another. As second years in high school, they finally were able to join the big leagues of battle of the bands. More people means more people to reach to, that was their goal. They didn’t care about winning or losing, they just wanted to show the world that yes, they were omegas but who cares. They were still going to shine a light of hope that they can be who ever they wanna be.

A week leading up to it, Bokuto became distant and angry. He was short tempered and snapped at his band mates, who became family to him, when the littlest things went wrong. His smile was completely gone and there was no hope or light in his eyes anymore. Two days before the battle, Atsumu finally cornered him and Bokuto broke. His fated pair broke his heart and told him that the reason he wanted to keep their relationship secret was because he was embarrassed to be seen with him and that the only reason why he dated him was because he felt bad for him. Atsu told him to stop moping around and do something about it, so that what he did. He poured his heart and soul in music after that and never looked back.

The day of the battle of the bands, the excitement was strong. They played their hearts out and the crowd was wild. More people showed up for their set than the battle of the bands committee has ever seen. As they walked off the stage with adrenaline running through their veins, Atsumu locks eyes with a teary eyed Hana holding Tora. For some reason everything froze when Hana tells the news. On the way over here, Atsu’s mom was caught in a hit and run accident and was announced dead at the hospital.

No one’s really remembers what happened next, it all happened way to fast. The only thing they really could remember was Atsumu’s screams and sobs when he saw her body for the first time and had to identify her. It was only serval days later that they found out that they originally won the band contest, but since they pulled out last minute, it went to the next runner up. It wasn’t until about the end of their third year when they decided again to try to pull themselves out of grief, more Atsumu and Hinata than anything. That year was dark and cold with no light what so ever.

The thing is, none of them really stopped playing, they just stopped preforming live. The music the played was all over the place, it just depended on who wrote the song and what mood they were in. By the time they slowly start preforming live, everyone could tell they’ve changed if you met them off the stage. On stage, they were still lively, like that was the only way that they could really just distract themselves from grief and pain.

It wasn’t until college when their band took off. More people showed up to their concerts or where ever they were practicing. They still remained a beacon of hope to a lot of people and a voice for those who couldn’t speak up. Those were the people they lived for still and would continue living for.

The one thing that’s sad about stars that start dying, is that no one really mourns their loss. However, sometimes they don’t really die, they just stop burning at their full potential. With no hope or light for the stars that form a small constellation, are they really going to die off or is there away to get people to see them and give them hope to be themselves again?
