Work Text:
“I ran after the Death of Rats,” Susan says, though she doesn’t expect the golden-haired girl looking quizzically at her will understand. “He was after a particularly smug orange tomcat, you see, and got himself shut in this cupboard, where I couldn’t very well leave him (to say nothing of the cat), so I climbed in and came out here - where exactly is here, if you don’t mind me asking?”
“Oh, you must mean Reapercheep - you needn’t worry about him, he visits us quite often,” the girl says, and offers her hand to help Susan up, adding, “I’m Lucy, by the way - Queen Lucy, really, though you musn’t bother yourself with that - but I can tell you that Narnia welcomes you,” and it might have struck Susan as all very friendly and comforting, had that damned tomcat not been twining around Lucy’s ankles as she spoke, purring fit to wake the dead.
