The Dragons that Roam

Summary:

!! DISCONTINUED !!

This fic is my AU, where they all are dragons and all are just... happier and less traumatized than canon, cuz DAMN do they need a break-

One fine morning, Tommy, an energetic 17 year old, went flying with his family. Sometimes you just get too carried away in all the fun your having that you forget that you can still get hurt. That's what happened with Tommy. And now he's stuck on the ground with a broken wing and two new friends trying to find his way back home. But when they eventually make it back home, they're too attached to each other to say good bye.

Just a fun fic that I thought of today, the sbi and bench trio are all dragons, and its about the bench trio meeting each other and having a good time while they try to find Tommy's family <3

Enjoy!!

Notes:

Work Text:

“TOM!!”

Tommy woke up to his father screaming his name.

“WHAT IS IT??” He jumped out of bed. He peeped out of his wooden door. His father, black scales fading into purple, blonde hair, green eyes and a black robe, stood outside his door.

“You know what day it is?” His father asked.

“...Saturday?”

“Tommy, we go family flying on Saturdays.”

“Oh.”

Tommy went back into his room. “YOU BETTER BE GETTING READY-” He heard his father shout from outside.

He looked into the mirror in his room, and he looked at himself. He touched his arm, feeling his shiny red scales. His wings, matching his red scales, opened up to be almost as big as himself. He opened his wardrobe, got changed and walked out of his room. He saw his two older brothers sitting on the tables in a bigger room outside they considered a living room. Wilbur and Techno.

Wilbur had inherited the same black scales and wings his father had, but instead of a purple fade, it was yellow, brown fluffy hair, and was always seen wearing a yellow sweater and a stern look on his face. If you have never met him, you would probably think he’s always holding a grudge. Maybe you would even be scared of him. But you wouldn’t nearly be as scared of him than you could ever be of Tommy’s other brother, Technoblade. Techno had wings quite similar to Tommy’s, a bloody dark red colour. His hair was light pink, and he always was seen with a crown on.

“Took you long enough,” Wilbur said.

They all walked outside of their little cottage. Their cottage was built right atop of a floating island. They took to the skies. All four of them, all at once.

Tommy truly loved to fly. He swerved through the air as he zoomed across the sky, letting the wind whip at his cheeks. His wings flapped, only making him fly faster. He couldn’t contain his smile, his laughter. He smiled so brightly, his teeth shone in the sun. His eyes closed as he laughed through the air, unable to hear his family calling his name in urgency.

“Tommy, be careful!” He heard one of them call, but it didn’t really register to him that he was supposed to comply. He looked to the sky, flapped his wings, and soared up into the sky. This is the fasted I’ve ever gone, and I FUCKING LOVE IT. He thought to himself.

He finally opened his eyes, went upside down midair, and started free falling to the ground. Feeling his stomach turn inside of him, he started flapping his wings again, but because of the speed at which he was falling, he couldn’t bring himself to go higher. He tried and tried and tried, but he had used up all his energy trying, and he continued to fall. His brothers and father were all screaming his name, soaring for him. He looked up to the same sky he was looking at before, now filled with fear instead of adrenaline. He squinted his eyes, bracing for impact. He wanted to scream for help, but nothing came out of his mouth. Nothing at all. His eyes started watering. ‘Fuck. Fuck. Fuck. Fuck. That was bad idea, shit-’

A sharp pain in his right wing, and a hard thud to the ground.

Tommy woke up, still in the forest he had crashed into. His family is nowhere to be seen. He shot up from the grass, the same pain in his right wing stung. A scream coming from his throat. He quickly looked around his surroundings. He had fallen into a big forest, light seeping through the leaves shone onto him like a spotlight where he sat. He looked at his limbs. His arms had cuts from the trees, and his legs had bruises all over them. His hair was messed up, some leaves sticking out of his golden locks. He started panicking. His breathing only sped up. He clutched his hands to his hair, pulling it in fear. He curled up into a ball where he was, his body in excruciating pain.

“Hey! Are you alright?! What happened to you??!” He heard someone call out to him. Tommy closed his eyes, thinking that something would happen if he did. He finally looked up to see someone of his age, kneeling next to him, examining him. He had long brown hair, enough to cover his eyes with his bangs. His hand had held his bangs away from his face so he could see. He was wearing a yellow T-shirt and blue overalls, and he carried a backpack, but what baffled Tommy the most is that… He had wings too. Dragon wings, and scales both the colour of emerald. Tommy never thought there were other dragons in the world, he had only seen his family of dragons.

“Damn, you’re really fucked up. I can help, don't worry!” He reached inside of his backpack. He pulled out some bandages, and started wrapping them around Tommy’s arms. “My name’s Tubbo, by the way.” He said.

“...I’m Tommy.” He muttered.

“Cool!” Tubbo exclaimed, standing up to see if anything else was there he had to fix. He had noticed a massive tear in Tommy’s wing from when he fell. Must have gotten torn on a branch.

“Your… Your wing. L-let me!” Tubbo said, quite concerned. ‘Wtf was this guy doing?!’ He thought to himself. “Open your right wing please?” He asked politely. Tommy opened his wing with a confused look.

He felt a sharp pain in his wing again. He screamed. “Ow!!”

“Sorry, sorry! What were you even doing anyway??” Tubbo asked, flabbergasted.

Tommy was stuck silent at that question. He knew the answer, of course. He remembered everything. But he didn’t dare to tell this boy patching up his wounds, he was too embarrassed. He shouldn’t have done something so risky for someone who’s flying levels are not that great. He should have listened to his family.

“...None of your business… What are you doing out in the forest?” Tommy asked, flinching at the pain of the bandages grazing the wound on his wing.

“Oh, I was collecting berries, while another friend of mine went out hunting! I’m meant to meet up with them soon. Maybe, if you would like, I could meet up with them with berries and a new friend! What do ya say?” Tubbo explained as he finished tying the bandages on the wound.

As much as Tommy wanted to go back home, he didn’t want to face his family members again. He didn’t want to see their disappointed faces. He knows how these things go. He and his family go out for something fun, he ends up doing something stupid, and then his entire family is disappointed. He didn’t want to face that, not yet.

“Yeah sure, I’ll go with you.” he said.

“Awesome.  Come along then,” Tubbo said, helping Tommy off the ground. Tommy’s limbs still ached, but it didn’t hurt as much anymore.

The two of them quickly became friends, walking through the forest, talking to each other about their thoughts. For Tommy, at least, it was a nice distraction from the pain in his body.

“I never thought I’d meet another dragon who I'm not related to!” He exclaimed. “...Where are you taking me?”

“To my home! The friend I was talkin’ about is probably already there waiting for me. I have a feeling you two would get along.”

They reached a cottage in a bigger clearing in the forest, surrounded by trees far taller than them. It was quite shaded where they were. The cottage was wooden, flowers growing all around the place. There was somebody there, the friend Tubbo was going on about. The figure was cooking some meat over a campfire. They sat down on a log, hunched over, staring off into the distance. They noticed Tubbo, and instantly, their face lit up. Tubbo ran over to them, so Tommy followed hastily.

“Aaaaand you brought a new friend,” The boy on the log said. You could tell he is taller than Tommy, and much taller than Tubbo. Half of their face and hair was split coloured ebony and ivory. Their eyes almost looked like they were glowing a red and green colour on each side. He too, had wings, the same black and white pattern on his skin coloured his wings.

“Yeap! I made a new friend! His name is Tommy. Tommy, this is my friend, Ranboo.” Tubbo explained, turning to Tommy.

“Nice to meet’cha.” Ranboo greeted.

Tommy looked to both of them. They seemed like really cool people. Tommy looked to them, proud that he was able to make new friends. His body was still sore from the fall, but he didn’t want to go through the effort of finding his family and facing their disappointment.

‘Guess I’ll be here for a while…’ Tommy thought to himself with a smile.
