Work Text:
The sun had just begun to set, leaving the room a pink/orange hue before it would inevitably settle into nighttime, and Minho and Jisung were in bed. Minho’s room was more organized than Jisung’s, which meant his bed– free of the mix of dirty and clean clothes that littered Jisung’s– was the perfect spot for them to curl up together to watch a drama.
For the two of them, a free schedule for two days in a row could sometimes mean going out together and eating a nice meal, taking a walk by the river, and stopping at a small cafe for dessert before walking back to the dorms. But other times, a free schedule just meant lazing around inside, cooking a meal together and Minho pretending like there wasn’t enough for the rest of the dorm despite always secretly portioning out enough for the other boys.
Today was the latter kind.
Jisung had brought his largest blanket from his own room for the two of them to cozy up under. They’ve been watching for a handful of episodes, deep into their routine of comfortable silence accompanied by their occasional commentary. But Minho had to admit he had been zoning out for the last ten minutes or so, and instead he’d been focusing on how soft Jisung’s hair feels as he runs his fingers through it while gently untangling any knots.
And while Minho always enjoys going out with Jisung, he really loves when they can spend time together like this. When it’s just the two of them in their comfortable bubble in bed.
But music in the drama picks up, bringing Minho’s attention back to the show just as the main character gets on one knee to propose to his girlfriend. He thinks he really must not have been paying attention for longer than he thought because the last thing he remembers was the couple in a big argument. But now, the girl on screen has tears of joy in her eyes as she says an enthusiastic ‘yes!’ to the proposal, and jumps into the man’s arms and kisses him.
Minho doesn’t know why watching this fake couple of all things puts the idea in his head, or why he’s choosing to voice it out loud now, but suddenly he looks down at Jisung who is smiling softly at the now engaged couple on the laptop and just says it.
“We should do that.”
Jisung turns his head to face him, “What? Kiss? You don't have to ask, you know, just come here.” Jisung says and chuckles before puckering his lips and leaning in.
Minho stops him with a hand on his forehead. “No, idiot,” he takes his hand away and puts it in his lap, suddenly feeling a little shy, “I meant we should get engaged.”
The joking smile on Jisung’s face slowly wears off as Minho’s words sink in. “Oh.” Jisung says, his voice quiet and shocked.
The older looks down at his hands, not having enough courage to look at Jisung yet. He can feel his heart almost beating out of his chest, the sound is loud in his ears, and only increasing the more seconds pass without Jisung saying anything else. But he finally feels Jisung angle his head to get a better look at Minho’s face while reaching out to hold his hand. The touch instantly calms Minho, and the way Jisung’s trying to get him to look at him can’t mean rejection, causing a burst of hope to explode in him.
“You’d want to marry me?” Jisung asks.
The surprise in Jisung’s voice is what makes Minho look back up. Well that’s a stupid question, he thinks, of course he wants to marry Jisung.
“I know we can’t really get married, but–” Minho starts.
“But you’d still want to marry me?” Jisung asks again, the shock slowly leaving and making way to a smile.
Minho has never really been great with expressing how he feels or what he wants. But with Jisung, it’s easier. Whether that’s because Jisung is actually just easier to talk to or because Jisung can just understand Minho’s unconventional way of getting his point across, Minho doesn’t really know. But he does know that right now he wants to make his answer as clear as possible.
“Of course I want to marry you.” Minho says, making sure to keep eye contact with Jisung but still sounding shy nonetheless.
Jisung’s heart-shaped smile spreads wide across his face, nothing but pure joy written in his expression. Minho feels like a weight has been lifted off of his chest. He can still feel his heart beating loudly, but it’s not from nerves anymore. It’s the same feeling he gets anytime Jisung looks at him like this, unapologetically happy.
“I want to marry you, too.” Jisung says, and he cups his hands around Minho’s face, his thumbs caressing his cheekbones. “And, I mean… according to Changbin hyung we already act like an old married couple.” He giggles.
Minho doesn’t even try to hold back his smile. The buzz of warmth and happiness that he feels is so strong that he needs to let it out somehow or he thinks he might explode. So, he surges forward to capture Jisung’s lips in a sweet kiss, but both of them are hardly able to do much more than knock their teeth together from the equally large grins on their faces.
“Then we need to be extra grossly in love around Changbin if he keeps up the complaining. He’s just jealous he’s not getting any.” Minho says, pulling back out of the kiss, but keeping Jisung close. “Meanwhile we’re getting engaged.”
Jisung giggles, “So that was you proposing for real then? Should I call you my fiancé now?”
“Oh don't worry, baby, I’ll still get you a ring. I’ll get you the best ring you’ve ever seen. We'll do the whole big thing the right way, super obnoxious and cheesy.”
“Hmm I do like the idea of you getting on your knees for me…”
“Hey!” Minho swats at Jisung’s hair, making it stick up in the back. “Dirty, dirty boy. I can’t believe I want to marry you.” He says, but his smile never leaves his face. He smooths Jisung’s hair back into place.
“I’m still calling you my fiancé from now on though, ring or not, and potential of real legal marriage in our future or not. It doesn’t matter.” Jisung says, moving his hands back to Minho’s face so that his attention doesn’t stray, not that it ever possibly could after all of this.
Minho leans to kiss him again, and this time deepening it right away. He tries his best to convey how much love he has for the man in front of him. His fiancé.
When they pull back, they take a moment to just look at each other. The energy between them feels different now that they’ve laid all their feelings out there like this. The buzzing under Minho’s skin doesn’t seem to be dying down anytime soon, especially not if Jisung keeps looking at him like he hung the moon.
“I love you.” Minho says, not knowing how else to express the overwhelming feeling he has in his chest.
Jisung leans forward and knocks their foreheads together, “I love you.” His eyes shine in the last sliver of light coming in through the curtains that they forgot to close. He looks so beautiful. Like the most precious thing in the universe with his soft cheeks and perfect smile. Minho knows there's no one better to spend the rest of his life with, and he’d promise it to Jisung a million times in front of the whole world if he could. But for now, a half-proposal while curled up together under a blanket on Minho’s bed will have to do.
The sudden loud music playing through the laptop speakers signaling the end credits of the episode startles them out of their thoughts. Jisung quickly pauses it and shuts the laptop, abandoning the idea that they’ll be able to focus on another episode right now. So instead, Jisung moves to straddle Minho’s lap and wraps his arms loosely around Minho’s neck. Minho’s hands find their way like a magnet to Jisung’s waist.
“I’m thinking a spring wedding,” Jisung says, “not too early on in spring where it could rain at any moment, but late spring when it’s almost practically summer but not too warm outside yet, you know? We’ll even get Soonie, Doongie, and Dori dressed up in little cat-sized tuxes and have them be the groomsmen, maybe walk you down the aisle.” Jisung laughs.
Minho snorts, “Why is it just me walking down the aisle? Why not both of us?”
Jisung moves his face closer into Minho’s space, “Hmm… you’re right, baby. I like the way you think. See this is why I’m marrying you.” He leans in to press a quick kiss on Minho’s lips.
“We’ll have to tell the others, right?” Minho asks once they separate, “Or we could wait until I do a real proposal.”
“I don't think I’ll be able to stop myself from running out of this room and telling the first person I see. But only after I have some incredible sex with my new fiancé, of course.” Jisung smirks down at him.
“Fair point.” Minho smiles into their next kiss as Jisung tightens his arms around Minho, moving his body weight so he’s sitting high up on Minho’s lap. Jisung moves his mouth so it’s right next to Minho’s ear and whispers, “Shall we see if engaged sex is better than boyfriend sex?”
“Get the lube.”

Changbin jumps off of his seat between Seungmin and Jeongin on the couch when he hears a door slam open the next morning. Hyunjin and Felix rush out of the kitchen to see what the noise was. Not even a second after they get into the living room, Jisung comes rushing down the hallway dragging a still half asleep Minho by the hand.
“Guys! We have news!” Jisung yells as he yanks Minho in front of him so that he can rest his chin on his shoulder despite the apparent height difference between the two. His arms come up and wrap around Minho’s middle, and he can’t help but give him a small squeeze from excitement.
“Is it so important that you had to put a hole in the wall with your bedroom door knob?” Chan asks, appearing behind Jisung before moving to sit on the couch next to Changbin.
“Trust me, hyung, this is the news of the century, and way more important than any potential damage done by the door.” Jisung says, getting more and more worked up with anticipation.
“If this is related to noises I had to hear through my bedroom wall last night then I don't wanna know.” Changbin says.
“Hyung, just listen! This is really, really exciting news!”
“Go ahead, Hannie, I’m listening.” Felix says, smiling and nodding for him to continue.
“Thank you, Lix, this is why you’re my favorite. Aside from Minho hyung, of course. Because he is my fiancé after all…”
It takes approximately 3 seconds for the words to sink in. But soon enough the other members’ eyes are wide and smiles are taking over their faces. Hyunjin and Felix are running over to hug the couple, and everyone is yelling their congratulations and excitement for them.
When Minho turns to look at Jisung, he sees Jisung already looking at him. The younger’s eyes and soft smile are reflecting all the love and fondness he knows is also showing in his own expression. The warm buzzing feeling underneath his skin is back. And he can’t wait to feel it for the rest of his life.
