honey coloured hair

Summary:

Sunbeams shine on Remus and Sirius finally realises long felt emotions in the middle of an ordinary history class.

“A beam of sunlight streams from the large, open windows on Remus Lupin, bathing his hair in sunlight and colouring it in a delicate honey gold. It appears to be so soft and warm; Sirius wants nothing more than to wander his fingers slowly through every strand of it. And his face! The parts of his face that the sunlight can reach are beautifully beaming, softly highlighting the freckles that are seen so rarely. He wants to brush over them until he is sure he’s touched them all. The other side of his face is swallowed by shadows and carefully carries the outlines of his nose and lips. Oh his lips. Moony’s lips wear the colour of peaches and roses. They look incredibly soft and are formed just perfectly to get captured by Sirius’s. The things he would do to feel them, to taste them.”

Work Text:

It is the beginning of June and a breeze of warm air streams from the widely open windows through the classroom. It is a warm afternoon of one of the last days before summer break. The pleasant warmth seems to promise many days just like it.

The history teacher has been talking about some wizards 300 years ago Sirius can’t even pretend to care about. He doodles all over his notes in an attempt to get rid of the weighing boredom that starts to make him sleepy.
When the teacher tells them to look at the wand he brought with him from this time period, Sirius interest is shaken awake and he looks up from his sheet for what seems to be the first time this lesson. However, his academic interest quickly vanishes by the distracting sight of a boy.

A beam of sunlight streams from the large, open windows on Remus Lupin, bathing his hair in sunlight and colouring it in a delicate honey gold. The things he would do to feel them, to taste them.

Remus Lupin, his Moony, sits on the right side in the row in front of him. They’re pretty close but still far too distant for Sirius’s liking. Remus, in contrast to Sirius, listens actively to the teacher and hastily takes notes. He doesn’t seem to notice Sirius’s obvious staring.

Oh, how he admires Remus. He has always admired Moony since the day they’ve first met. It wasn’t just a specific trait he admires but his whole existence; how his eyes glisten when scheming their next intelligent prank, how he manages to never let Peter feel left out (“gosh how can a man be so kind to everyone?”), how he always makes the funniest jokes and constantly teases Sirius, how safe Sirius feels while telling Remus his most private secrets, how warm he feels whenever they sneak into each other’s beds in the middle of the night, how he is just so perfectly Moony in a way Sirius knows nobody else ever quite could be.
He's known all these things for a long time, but in this moment on a June afternoon in their history class, something changes.

Right now, in awe of the astonishing sight before his eyes, Sirius finally realizes. He realizes that what he has been feeling towards his fellow marauder isn’t just brotherly love; in fact, it’s not brotherly at all. He wants to be closer to Remus so badly, he wants to hold him close and listen to his most devastating fears as well as kiss him until no breath is left and he wants to know what could happen after that.

As if he forgot that Remus is actually a living human who can notice his staring, he almost startles when Remus lazily leans back to look at him. Their eyes lock and Remus smiles that smirk full of mischief. Sirius feels as if nothing in the world exists, all fake. Just him and Remus, that’s all there is in the entirety of their world. If Sirius thought his mind was absent from class before, it was nothing compared to right now. His mind simply stops working entirely.

Sirius notices that Remus’s lips move and knows he must’ve said something. His mind just can’t seem to collect his senses together enough to concentrate on putting the words coming from these delicate lips into coherent sentences. Remus’s expression flickers; he seems to be amused now. The grin only deepens when Sirius finally decides to collect his sanity once again even though he can already feel his face getting hot from blushing. “Sirius” Remus repeats softly, “Sirius are you sick? Since when don’t you have a witty comeback to my stupid comments? I am starting to get concerned”
Oh gosh, there it is again. That gentle, stupid smile of his. Even though Sirius’s throat feels particularly dry at the moment, he manages to mumble “Just didn’t hear you Moony, no need to bawl” though his tone isn’t as casual as he anticipated it. Remus just shakes his head and turns back to the teacher in an attempt to hide his grin.

Just when Sirius thinks he might just melt away by the overwhelming presence of everything Moony, he notices the sounds of moving chairs and people chattering all around him and he snaps out of his dream-like state. The lesson must be over.

While he collects his books, Remus walks over to him and looks at him in a witty manner again. “As slow as always, Padfoot” Remus lazily comments while rolling his eyes.
By the time Sirius is finally ready to leave, the classroom is already empty. Even their teacher has left. They walk out into the hallway and see the last group of their classmates climb the majestic stairs to the astronomy tower. Remus and Sirius follow them rather slowly despite knowing that their lesson will start in a few minutes. When Sirius risks to take a quick look at Remus, he catches Remus staring. Remus looks at him rather curiously, as if he’s trying to figure out what Sirius is thinking. Sirius holds his gaze for a few moments, making both of them slowly blush. Halfway up the flight of stairs, Remus stops and pulls Sirius by the shirt into a narrow nook.

Remus gently presses him against the wall with that concerned look in his eyes.
“Padfoot, what is up with you today? You know you can tell me everything, right? Are you all right?”
Sirius is, in fact, not all right. So shortly after realising how fond he is of his friend, he’s pressed against the wall by him in an empty hallway. Moony is only a breath away and oh, Sirius didn’t even know his heart was capable of beating so fast. If Remus wouldn’t have taken up all of Sirius’s brain capacity for the past hour, he might’ve worried about his heart exploding.

Suddenly, it’s all very clear to him. It is fairly obvious and makes perfect sense to him. Remus’s question has only one logical answer.
He leans forward and places his lips on Remus’s.
Yes, the right response it really was. Remus doesn’t contemplate it for one second; he responds immediately by kissing back as if he’s been waiting for this moment for years. He cups Sirius’s face as if he never would let go of him again and entangles his long fingers in the dark curls.

Remus tastes better than Sirius could’ve ever imagined: sweet like honey, so full of warmth and wetness, and something so unutterable Remus that makes Sirius wish he could simply stop the clock and never stop kissing him.
Remus starts to trail downward Sirius’s face and draws his attention to the neck. He sucks on the vulnerable skin until soft moans escape Sirius’s lips. Remus looks back up with a very turned on and satisfied expression painting his face. He must’ve left some dark-red coloured hickeys behind, Sirius thinks. Remus’s look doesn’t seem to vanish and it’s doing things to Sirius. He hastily closes the gap between them again and bites Remus’s lips without a warning. Remus moans very quietly and high-pitched, but Sirius doesn’t miss it. He uses the moment of surprise to swing Remus around and press him against the wall, being the one on top now. Remus responds with an amused chuckle but doesn’t complain. In fact, it seems to turn him on even more.

Many minutes later they break the kiss, both heavily panting. Though they refuse to let go of each other; refuse to let the moment be over. They stay in the same position for minutes, hands still connected, faces so close they can feel each other’s breaths.
“Moony, you know we’ve missed the whole astronomy lesson, right?” Sirius whispers softly with an amused eyebrow quirking up. “Couldn’t care less” mutters the taller boy through Sirius’s curls. No trace of panic or unsettlement in his voice, just calm and satisfyingly happy. That was not the answer Sirius expected from the smart prefect in front of him. Remus continues: “Actually, I feel very dizzy and hot right now, I think I need to miss all classes for today; I should rather go to bed!”
“Oh no, Moony my love, in that case I must look after you and have to skip today’s classes as well, what a bugger!” Sirius whispers back with a playful frown.

The two of them proceed to fondly smile at each other for an eternity in that small nook halfway up the staircase. Later, Remus takes Sirius by the hand and leads him to their bedroom.
