Work Text:
“I’m home!” Gahyeon yelled, closing the door behind her. She just came back from meeting Arin, and she’s starting to regret doing a 4 hour karaoke session with her. Regardless, she’s back home at 11 PM, feeling drained and musty. As she placed her shoes on the rack, she could hear something tweeting. Something.....flying?
They didn’t buy any pets without me knowing…...right?
Worried, Gahyeon ran to where the sound came from. After dashing through the halls, she was in their shared living room. What was in that room? A small bird with feathers white as snow flapping its wings aggressively. “What is this? Do I have to call animal control?” the youngest asks bewildered, pulling out her phone. The bird settled on the top of her screen, chirping at the younger. Confused, she swats the bird off her phone. The bird flew off for a second before turning back to its spot on her phone, cocking its head to the side, pointing at the note on the coffee table. Nervous, Gahyeon made her way to the coffee table. There sat a note with (may she add) the worst handwriting she has ever witnessed.
“It’s me, Sua! I’ve been turned into a bird!
It might have happened since I drank a funny tea I got a while back
The tea box is in the cupboard, you should be able to find it easily.”
“This is why you don’t drink funny teas from random people unnie,” Gahyeon says with a slightly serious tone, Sua just sulky chirping as she turns to the side. The younger offers her shoulder for Sua to sit on (that she gladly accepts).
“Hey Gahyeon-ah, where’s my earphones I let you borrow-“
Dami stops in her steps, a confused look on her face. Gahyeon steps in front of her, saying “look, unnie, I can explain-“
“Is that Sua-unnie on your shoulder?”
Huh
“Wait, how did you figure this out already?” the youngest asks, now with a confused look on her face. “Well, knowing that we always call unnie a bird and seeing a note behind you, I wouldn’t be surprised if she turned into a bird from drinking something mysterious,” Dami explains, gesturing to the paper on the table. “Wow, right on the nose,” Gahyeon says, amazed. Well, Dami’s always been like that, so she’s not fully surprised. “We should tell Jiu-unnie before she finds out herself,” Dami says, immediately changing her direction. Gahyeon fiddles with her finger, saying “but, what if she doesn’t believe us?”
“Well, maybe if she sees Sua-unnie in the flesh. Actually, in the feathers, maybe then she’d believe it,” Dami says, pointing at the white bird in the process. “Just, go in the living room, I’ll explain everything to her.” Without a choice, Gahyeon pouts as she sits on the couch, Sua sitting near her note. As she heard the door close behind Dami, all she could hear were confused sounds and sooner or later the talking got a bit louder as the door opened.
“What do you mean? She can’t be a bird.”
“Unnie, go into the living room. Then you’ll see it.”
“Fine, but I don’t-“
There sat a small, fluffy white bird on the coffee table, eagerly chirping.
“Holy shit you’re right.”
The leader sighed and rubbed her temples, trying to process the situation. “Sua, I can already imagine what you have done but I don’t want to think about it so much,” Jiu comments, sighing in the process. “Hey! What’s all the commotion about?” Siyeon yells, Handong and Yoohyeon peeping behind her. Before they knew it, everyone was in the living room, looking at Sua in a bird form. “Is it rude to say I’m not surprised she did this?” Handong asks, inspecting the tea box Sua drank from. On the front, it looked relatively normal, saying things like ‘healing teas’ or ‘soothes the soul’. However, on the back with the finer lettering, that’s where it got weird.
“Bring out your true form, let your dreams come true,” Yoohyeon reads, trying her best to translate the English into Korean for the rest of her members. Regardless, everyone is confused about what it means. “Are they saying it metaphorically or did they mean it genuinely?” Siyeon asks, taking the box from Yoohyeon’s hands to get a better look. Handong gets up from her chair, saying “so, if this were to follow what the box said, does that mean Sua-unnie’s dream was to be a bird?” Everyone sat in silence. Sure, they have joked many times that she really suits being a crow-tit and that she might as well have been born a bird. But, to know that she actually wished to be one was a bit…..interesting.
“So, how are we going to turn her back into a human?” Gahyeon asks, a pout on her lips. “Well, according to the bottom of the back of it, it says that ‘once the recipient wants their dream to be reversed, it will then vanish the next day’,” Dami reads, pointing at the little section that says that. “So, Sua, how long do you want to be a bird for?” Jiu asks, still in disbelief of their current situation. The crow-tit flew up, grabbing the pencil on the desk and proceeded to write in the world’s most barely legible font for the girls to read. “I...want...to...stay...as...a...bird...for….maybe a day,” Dami reads out, saying it out as the bird kept writing. At this point, it was past midnight, and everyone was exhausted. So, the leader dusts off her pants while getting up, saying “well, it’s getting late, so we should all get some rest.” Everyone else murmured in agreement, soon, moving out of the living room. All who were left were Jiu and Sua. “Sua, I really do hope you’re aware you will be missing practice times the longer you decide to be a bird,” she says, looking at the bird on the table. Sua panickingly chirps, flapping her wings in the air. The leader tries to smile again, saying “but hey! Think of it as a small little break from work! You can relax and lounge around…...as a bird I guess?” The crow-tit bowed, offering an apology. “Sua, it’s fine to miss one day of practice. You deserve a break after all the hard work you have been doing,” Jiu says, her tone softening. Sua just nodded at that statement.
Surprisingly, the two don’t have much difficulty with each of their thoughts, both easily able to understand how the other is feeling. “Well, you can sleep on this pillow Sua,” Jiu says, patting the soft cushion next to her. The crow-tit flew to the pillow, happily sitting on its soft surface. “See you in the morning,” Jiu says, closing the living room light.
The crow-tit chirped in contentment, slowly closing her eyes.
You know what? A little break as a bird doesn’t sound too bad.
