Work Text:
“Are you sure you don’t need my help? I can reschedule with Master.” Kyo asks as he and Tohru make their way through the busy streets of Tokyo. The two had just left school which meant Kyo had training at the Sohma dojo and Tohru needed to go grocery shopping.
The brown headed girl shook her head firmly. “Please don’t reschedule with Master Kazuma, I promise I will be fine how long have I been grocery shopping for this household.” She said with a small giggle. For almost three years she had taken on the role of cooking and doing chores for Shigure’s house, which meant she was also in charge of grocery shopping for the three men in the house.
“That may be true, but I know for a fact we are completely out of food since Shigure invited Ayame over last night. Those two ate everything they could get their hands on.” Again, Tohru giggle, remembering the two men practically comatose after how much they ate. Even though Kyo was trying to reason with his girlfriend it fell short.
“Kyo, go to training. We only have two more months before graduation and then after that we will be in a new city with a new dojo. I know Master Kazuma wants whatever little time he has left with you at his dojo all to himself.” Tohru smiles before placing a kiss on Kyo’s cheek. He sighs and Tohru knows that she has won this match.
“Fine, as long as you are sure you do not need my help.” Tohru nods firmly.
“I’ve got this.” Kyo can’t help at smile at the small brunette and remember that this girl is capable of absolutely anything.
“Alright then, I’ll let you go do your shopping. I don’t have any classes to teach after training tonight so I should be back by 6, maybe 6:30 Master said that he has some listings to give us.” Torhu’s eyes light up at the mention of listings. Since they are both only 18, they are not able to rent a house without a co-signer, which is where Master Kazuma stepped in. When he learned of their problem, he stepped up without being asked and offered to be their co-signer. Since then, the relator has been sending him different listings for the 2 to look at.
Both Kyo and Tohru thought that their wants were simple enough but after several months of looking they have found that due to the size of where they are moving there are not a lot of options. Tohru is hoping that this will be the last set of listings they have to look at.
With one last kiss Tohru leaves Kyo outside of the dojo, waving to Master Kazuma as she takes off down the road. It was a beautiful day in January, it was sunny with a slight breeze blowing. Tohru watched as the wind blew through the branches of the cherry blossom trees and she smiled, by the time these trees are in full bloom she will be graduating high school and leaving to start her life with Kyo in another city. The thought was terrifying, but she knew that no matter what Kyo along with the rest of the Sohma would make sure everything was ok. She was grateful for her little family but wished more than anything her parents could be there to see all she had accomplished so far. She had voiced how she felt to Kyo several times and every time he would remind her that they could see everything she had done, and he knew without a doubt they were beyond proud of her.
As Tohru finally made it to the grocery store, she pulled out her list and quickly set to work. Thinking about everyone’s schedules tonight she knew that she had exactly 2 hours to finish shopping and to at least get started on dinner. With that thought she made sure her list was divided into groups, each one being a different department in the store, so she didn’t have to wonder around. Kyo had laughed when he saw how much work she put into the list but left her alone knowing that chores make her happy. The first place Tohru goes in boxed/ canned food that way the cold food does not get hot while she finishes shopping.
As she does her shopping Tohru runs into a few people she knows, being the person, she is Tohru can’t help but to stop and talk. Before she knows it, she has spent over an hour in the store between shopping and talking. She looks at her watch and sees if she leaves now, she will make it back just in time for Kyo to return home and for Yuki to be leaving Machi’s. Deciding they don’t need the last few things of the list she hurries to check out where she is done in less than 5 minutes. Loading her canvas bags with the groceries she heads out to the streets, the sun is starting to set which is causing the whole city to have a beautiful golden glow. As she rounded the corner she ran into a hard wall. She let out a surprised yelp and as she went to fall something caught her. She looked up and was met by a familiar set of orange eyes.
“Watch where you are going, you’re going to end up hurt.” Kyo playfully scolds her.
“I’m so sorry it was all my fault. I should have been watching where I was going.” Tohru quickly says. Kyo just chuckles.
“It’s fine Tohru, see neither of us got hurt.” Tohru blushes but then smiles, glad to see her boyfriend.
“You got done early.” Kyo nods.
“Turns out Master didn’t have much planned for today, he mainly wanted to talk about the houses that he was sent. We didn’t go through all of them but the ones we did look at look promising.” Kyo holds up a stack of papers and Tohru beams.
“Well then, let’s get back so we can start looking!” Kyo nods and takes one of the bags from Tohru’s arms.
They walk back to the house hand in hand, smiling as Kyo asks about how shopping went. Tohru tells him of her adventures including everyone she saw and what all the talked about. Kyo listened intensely holding onto every word Tohru told him. Before they knew it, they were home and Tohru started her task of making dinner. Overall, it was the perfect way to end her errand running.
