Summary:

We go days, months, and years, never knowing who our soulmate is. Our eye colour is swapped in our left eye, and our vision in said eye is reduced to black and white.
xxx
Midoriya Izuku was born with his soulmark; a black left eye while his right was the same toxic green as his mothers. His father Midoriya Hisashi left when Izuku got his quirk outing that Inko had been attacked. Izuku being the bastard son of some unknown man has caused him all sorts of problems, however he’s determined to make his life and many other’s better. Chapter 1: Whiplash

Chapter Text

Izuku had the displeasure of being awoken by his custom alarm, a genius invention of his own, the vibrations going through his arm however don’t feel so genius when he’d barely gotten any sleep the night before. He groans and slowly blinks open his eyes, debating on whether or not he can snooze it and get a few more minutes before having to go to the hell hole called Aldera middle school.

Ugh, why do I have to go back… it’s not like anyone would notice I’m even gone. Maybe I can just finish junior high online? It would certainly be far more peaceful than having to deal with “Kacchan” and his lackeys. Why can’t they just take the bullying seriously for once? Oh, right I don’t go to a private school and I’m not some rich kid or even a kid with a “powerful” quirk.

Izuku continues this line of thought and begins wondering what quirkist scum he’ll have for a teacher this year.  Kawakami-sensei was my first year teacher, he was unfortunately quite masterful in his ability to use his words to hurt you. At least for second year I had Hamasaki-sensei, she just ignored me. Then of course I had Hidaka-sensei, he was horri-

Jolting up, Izuku checked his calendar and realized that he wasn’t going back to Aldera today, or ever again. Frantically, he felt around his bedside table for his phone and glasses. Slipping them on he checked his phone for the time- SHIT!

I’m gonna be late for the UA entrance exam!

Izuku being the clumsy fool he is, rushed out of his bed, but not before tangling himself in his sheets and falling off the bed. He managed to not fall on his face so at least there’s the plus of not breaking his glasses. Sliding the rest of the way off the bed, Izuku lays fully on the floor, his legs still ensnared in the mess of sheets.

Sighing, Izuku sits up and disentangles his legs. Finally free he stands and makes his way to his closet, thinking back on his life now as he was about to take the entrance exams to his dream school made him feel both really proud of himself and also extremely nervous and doubtful.

How did he even manage to make it this far…?

Izuku’s 4th birthday was supposed to be the best day of his life, he was supposed to get a super awesome quirk like his mommy or daddy’s, instead he manifested a voice quirk… When his quirk came in he had been angry and throwing a tantrum because one of the boys at his party was teasing him for something that he can’t quite remember anymore, his anger unleashed his newly manifested quirk on the poor kid, it wasn’t like mommy’s anger where the dishes rattle and picture frames fly, or like daddy’s anger where smoke pours from his nostrils and little licks of flames are exhaled with every breath. No, it wasn’t anything like that…

Izuku yelled at the boy to “shut up!” while smacking the boys teasing hand away from his face. His right eye glowed a vibrant green, and when the boy went to talk he found he couldn’t. Almost as if on instinct Izuku brought his hand up mimicking a hand puppet talking, and the boy's nasally high pitched voice came out from it. Every single one of the children there had horrified looks on their faces, even Kacchan had an almost unreadable expression…

After that Izuku's eye stopped glowing and the boy regained his voice, however, the damage had been done. As soon as the boy got his voice back he began screaming and crying for his mother and she and the other adults all came running. All the children said the same thing: ”Izukkun’s a villain!”, “he stole his voice and used it”, “I’m scared of him, he's creepy!”

As soon as they all heard that they quickly said their goodbyes and took their children home, even Aunt Mitsuki took Kacchan home but not before giving his mother a strange look. Once everyone was gone Izuku’s parents shooed him away to his room, where he sat until it was late in the night, listening to his mother and father yell and scream at each other and when they stopped yelling his mommy was sobbing and begging for his daddy to stay and not go.

He didn’t know what “infidelity” was at the time but as he grew older and his friends all left him and began calling him a “bastard child” and a “whores son” and worst of all “villain” and “voice thief”, he came to learn that that word, that “infidelity” was bad.

Soon after daddy left mommy grew to be very sad, but she always put on a brave face for him. He’d heard his mom talking to someone one night about how Izuku was made by some random man who’d forced himself on her at work. When he’d asked she decided he was old enough to know and told him about it and why she kept him even after finding out.

However even after knowing the truth Izuku was still bullied and tormented because he was a bastard child and a villain to everyone but his mom.

When he was attending Aldera junior high he was practically living in his custom cuffs while he was at school, they were large metal cages for his hands… He refused to tell his mother because he didn’t want her to worry any more than she already does.

However one day just ten months before the UA entrance exams Izuku came across a villain, or well, the villain came across Izuku and everything changed, that sludge villain would’ve killed him but instead All-freakin-Might saved him! It was the most amazing thing to ever happen to him and he couldn’t pass up the opportunity to ask his favourite Hero a very important question. So he asked, his voice unused to being used.

As it turns out, All Might wasn’t the amazing, smiling, Hero he was made out to be. That day All Might left Izuku on the rooftop of that building, and Izuku sobbed over the words his Hero spoke.

Someone with your type of quirk… be a hero? It’s good to dream but keep them realistic, with your quirk you’re more likely to be a villain!”

Thankfully, his rant was cut short when there were explosions heard from a few blocks over. Izuku sat on the roof of that building for hours after All Might left, so many hours that the sun had already disappeared below the horizon, he contemplated jumping, like Kacchan had told him just moments before his run-in with the sludge villain.

However, before he could bring his thoughts into fruition he heard a scream from below. He looked over the edge of the building and saw a woman being chased into the alleyway between the building he was perched on and the next, but it was a dead end. The person chasing the woman cackled and it was a disgusting sound that grated at Izuku’s nerves.

Before the person could reach the woman, a scruffy looking man swooped in and knocked the person back. His hair floated upwards as if the gravity around it didn’t exist. As soon as he looked at the person they started yelling about how their quirk wasn’t working and screaming at the man “WHAT DID YOU DO?!”

Rather than answering them, the man, hero?, flicked his wrist and the scarf around his shoulders flung out towards the criminal and wrapped around their arm, he gave a sharp tug and the person went flying into his knee, he then brought his fist down on the person’s back and they crashed into the ground, out cold.

Izuku’s entire being shifted as he watched the man tie up the criminal with his scarf and pull out his phone seemingly to call the cops and then check on the woman who was huddled against the wall but generally unharmed. Not long after that the police arrived and the Hero zipped up the side of the smaller building across from Izuku and began running and leaping over the rooftops to continue his patrol.

Once Izuku had snapped out of his reverie and was certain the coast was clear, he made his way down the fire escape and went home in a daze. That night as Izuku laid in his bed and stared at the ceiling he thought about the Hero with the wild floating hair and from what Izuku could gather, a quirk that disabled other peoples quirks? If someone like that could be a Hero maybe… I can too?

So when Izuku awoke the next day he made his decision. He would train his body and mind and quirk to the best of his abilities and he would become an underground Hero just like the one who had unknowingly saved not just one life that night but two.

Having made his decision he stuck to it and trained his body, building up not only his muscle mass but also his flexibility and stamina. He trained himself in a few types of martial arts and modified them to make his own style of fighting.

He trained his mind by going to the library and studying up on several different things like coding, hacking and how to design and build things, such as his alarm and his own form of weapon based on the design of the Hero’s scarf.

And finally he trained his quirk, that one was extremely tricky seeing as he couldn’t go to a quirk counsellor as his mother just couldn’t afford it and he couldn’t just practice on random people.

He found a way eventually but for the most part he analyzed and studied the way his quirk had worked the few times he had accidentally used it. And he figured out so many different things he could do with his quirk. Since everyone told him that when he’d used his quirk he had touched them just before he figured his quirk was activated by skin contact so he inspected his hands and the rest of his body to try and gain an understanding there.

Turns out he has a very sensitive sense of touch in his hands. He is able to feel the vibrational frequency, and match it. He also has a membrane in his hands that can stretch and compress easily to adjust the pitch of the sound that will go through it when projecting the sound of someone else’s voice that he’s borrowed. He expanded upon this knowledge and found that he’s able to create small pockets of silence around himself and others, by using the vibrations of sounds produced by his hands to match and counteract any sounds created within his range thus nullifying those sounds.

Aside from these he hypothesized that with more training he’ll be able to eventually be able to create large sound waves as a form of attack. For now, to train the beginnings of his quirk he first sat in a quiet soundproofed room he was able to gain access to, through a friend, he did focus exercises for a few weeks and then he moved on to sitting in large busy places like the cafeteria or the mall, trying to pinpoint certain sounds. He also took up swimming to expand his lung capacity so he’d be able to produce continuous sounds for longer periods of time.

And every step of the way mom was there supporting him in the ways she could, his favourite meals, bandaging his wounds, and taking care of him as much as she was able to with how often she had to work.

Now as Izuku gets dressed in his fitted black cargo pants, a sleeveless turtleneck and a tech wear jacket he thrifted not that long ago he felt he was at least semi ready for the exams. He had double and triple checked that he'd sent in all the appropriate paperwork so that he would be allowed to bring in his own support weapons, a set of capture scarves he kept wrapped around his forearms. So with that anxiety at least partially subdued he finished getting ready.

He rushed clumsily into the bathroom to tame his mass of curls, he’d gotten too busy and too attached his hair to bother getting a haircut, so now his green and black locks reached just below his collarbone. He swiftly pulled his hair into a small ponytail, then he put his hearing aids in, looking at his single black iris, the colour of his soulmate's eyes, and did a quick once over before deciding he was already too behind schedule to care more about his appearance.

He ran over to his genkan and slipped on his black shoes, tied them fast and then booked it out the door just barely remembering to grab his phone on the way out. As he rushed towards UA, Izuku gently fingered his hearing aids to ensure they sat properly with his glasses so that they wouldn’t get knocked out. He vaguely recalled how he got them a few years back. He’d had the worst run-in with Katsuki and with his already sensitive hearing from years of abuse and bullying as well as a drawback from his own quirk… Izuku’s ears couldn’t handle that blast at such a close range.

Since losing his hearing, Izuku’s quirk also evolved to cover this new found weakness. Rather than hearing with his ears he uses the membranes on his hands to feel the vibrations of sound in the air and process them, much like his ears would’ve.

As he ran he pulled himself out of those memories so he could pay attention to where he was going. He parkoured over a few dead end alleys and reached his destination in record timing, yet a quick glance at his phone's clock told him he was mere minutes from being late. With only a few other stragglers on the walkway to UA’s main entrance he slowed from a run to a brisk walk.

Halfway to the large doors and the sign in table, Izuku, in all his glorious, magnificent, clumsiness, trips on fucking air.

“Woah! It’d be real bad luck if you fell on the day of entrance exams!” A voice exclaims feeling a quick touch to his back and his body loses its gravity as he floats upwards and slightly upside down. He comes face to upside down face with a brown haired girl, her rosy cheeks the center of his focus as he avoids eye contact.

She grabs his wrists and gently pulls him back down to the ground, she then whispers a quick release as Izuku is once again firmly planted on the ground. Albeit swaying slightly from the sudden change in gravity.

He gives a quick bow in and signs “thank you” to her.

“Oh! Are you, um… deaf? Is that bad to ask? Oh gosh please ignore me…”

Izuku lets out a huff of air, he pulls out his phone and uses a text-to-voice app he programmed in his free time, “ You’re fine!”

The brunette sighed in relief, her entire body slumping as the awkward tension released from her. “Oh thank goodness- We’re gonna be late if we don’t get going now!”

The two of them practically speed walk towards the sign in desk and finally get registered for their exams. It turns out they’re both taking the Hero course exam so they continue walking to the room together for the written exam. Once they arrive they part ways and sit on opposite sides of the room.

Izuku watches as the R-Rated Hero: Midnight takes the stage at the front of the room. She cracks her whip, gaining everyone’s attention.

“Let’s get this started!”
