Work Text:
You had always hated fireworks, ever since you were little. The loud BANG! would cause your very core to shake as your heart skipped a beat. Thankfully you had someone to help you through the onslaught that happened every new years.
The fireworks had started earlier than you had both expected. Unfortunately, Papa was still working in his office when it had started. So, you were left to cover your ears and busy your mind as best you could to try and ignore the distressing noise. A few minutes later, Papa came rushing in to be by your side. The room was a mess of clothes and fidget toys all over from your failed attempt to find your noise-canceling headphones. Papa spent some time searching for them himself until he finally found them.
You gratefully took the headphones from him and placed them over your aching ears. You rocked and hugged your knees to your chest as you tried to ground yourself and prevent your approaching meltdown. Papa sat down next to you as you calmed yourself.
You eventually climbed into his lap and he rubbed soothing circles onto your back. “It’s alright little one, you’re safe” he cooed close to your ear. “I know the fireworks are loud and scary.” Your breathing slowed and muscles relaxed as Papa held you close.
