Chapter Text
The sun was nearing sunset and you just finished some unpacking! Stuffing a sandwich into your piehole, you grab your car keys and book it out the door. Sliding in your car, hiccupping from eating too fast, the engine grumbles life. Some song plays gently from the radio as the small house fades from view and the moon gets ready to call the sky his stage, wind howls and dances around your hearing. "I know I saw it around here somewhere.." glancing around as you drive you spot a fenced off area, "Maybe that's it, I mean there is junk piled on junk in that lot." You park your car a little off from the road and walk up to the fence, trying to scope out anything of interest. You know there is far more legal ways to get the parts you need but, no ones touch this stuff in months anyways, and who knows when they ever will. You are doing them a favor! That's what you tell yourself and you believe it, or else morals will guilt trip you.
Climbing the fence is clunky and dust kicks up when you land on the other side, this makes you sneeze. Luckily! No one is around to hear your little kitten sneeze and make fun of it, luckily. Piles and piles of scrap metal, old chairs, and broken shoes and the lost left socks greet you. Loose dirt crunches with every step, the moon has taken his lead and smiles down on the town below him. Whistling a familiar tune, eagerness and the cold snap at your fingertips. Something glistens under the moonlight, a soft yellow and orange triangle protrudes from a trash pile. Inching closer a face can be made out, but not quite a human one, its mostly flat and duel toned with faded yellows. A strained smile and terror filled eyes stare blankly into the void of space surrounding the curious artist. Shakely reaching a hand to the frozen metal face you grasp it, its round cheeks stealing what warmth remained in your hands. Metal creaks and groan as you suddenly try to pull your new friend out of the trash, a painful snap! cries out from behind the face as the neck snaps off from the faceplate. "Woah.. this is a SICK find!" The face is split in two using a crescent moon look on side, the other warmer and in more resemblance of the sun's hue. "Poor guy looks like he watched his whole world burn," you chuckle, pocketing your new friend in your duffle bag. The moon yawned in the sky, it's position with the stars reminding you of how late it is getting. Through the garbage maze and over the metal web, your car greats you with a chirpy beep and click as you unlock it. The drive home was spent with mumbles of what to do with the celestial face that looked oh so familiar. Alas the memory of what it could be escaped you, most do these days. Once you were home the car beeped as you locked it. "Welcome to your new home buddy! Tomorrow I will check for the damages and see if anything on ya still works!" The face was held up to see your little home before approaching the front door.
Dancing in the dark through the hallway you reach your room and toss the duffle bag in the work chair. Pomph! Like a welcoming cloud the under decorated bed greets it's owner, decorating it can wait for after you finish your newest project. Whatever this project turns out to be, you haven't really thought that far, if any actually. Drifting to sleep as thoughts swim in swarms around your head. Only to hear the sound of BEEP BEEP BEEP ugh that noisy alarm. The night passed so fast, it feels like you closed your eyes just seconds ago! Morning grumbles can wait though, you have work to do! A robotic face, still looking as terrified as it did when you found it, greeted you from your duffle bag. "Not a fan of mornings either huh?" You chuckled to yourself, picking it up. "Don't worry bud I'll get you fixed up right as rain!" It took maybe three hours to get your workplace fully set up, testing then begun. You checked the wiring first, a few were fried but that was easy to fix, then you slowly checked the hardware. Fingers were crossed the whole time, the only thing fried was the wi-fi chip, that's not bad. "Okay we will we will have to order a new one of those buddy, I don't carry those with me, but other wise we got away super lucky!" your smile was big, and if the head was active, it too would probably smile at you back. After checking for batteries and not finding any you decide it was probably stored in the chest cavity like the missing voice box you noticed during the hardware check. There does look to be a way to connect the head to a computer or device, just need to find a cable for that and- Ringing filled the room, scrambling for you phone a bundle of wires and cables fall with clunk, it's your mom! "Heeey mom what's up?"
"You made it to your new place safe and sound I assume? You didn't call or text me last night like you promised before you left," she sounded worried but relieved. You completely forgot all about that, got too caught up in the excitement of your find to even send her a text!
"Yeah yeah! I'm here safe and sound! And I am so, so so sorry for not texting you mom! I just, well I was unpacking, and got excited about all the new things I could do here and and.." trailing of in nervous stutter, you did mean to make your mother worry, honest!
"Well I'm glad to hear you're alright my butterball! Make sure to eat at least two meals a day okay? And no, coffee does not count as a proper meal," mom kidded with you a bit and laughed.
"Alright, love you mom, and good morning!"
"Love you too!" Click.
Breakfast, then the connecter cable, gotta get some brain food in. Your fridge is a sour sight, so eggs and toast it is. Grocery shopping can be done tomorrow, along with everything else you are piling up for future you.
