Work Text:

Lucius walked into his fathers office, he had just returned from Italy with a lovely broad. He wasn’t ready to be back but when his father called there was no other choice but to come running home.

“Lucius, son. It’s time to settle down and stop making your way through the Pureblood witches of the world,” Abraxas said.

“Father, I have tried it your way with the many setups. Mother had me on blind dates constantly. I had enough. So I ran,” Lucius said.

“Well that’s over. It’s time to come home, your mother misses you,” his father stated.

Lucius rolled his eyes. Of course it was his mother that was behind this. Well, he had made the resolution at the beginning of the year to finally let himself find someone to fall in love with and listen to his heart's desire.

“Now your mother has organised with the Blacks that you will meet with Narcissa and you will begin the courting process,” Abraxas explained.

“Not the youngest?”

“Yes, that’s the one. It’s all set up, the contract has been signed,” Abraxas told him.

“But she’s a bore. I can’t stand her,” Lucius whined.

“I don’t care Lucius, it has been decided. You will listen,” his father demanded.

Lucius scowled before getting up and leaving the room before he said something he would regret.

Going to Knockturn Alley— Lucius went to the club. He needed to drink his sorrows away.

“Care to share?” A voice sounded from behind him that moved through his soul.

Peering around, he noticed that Bellatrix Black was the one who had spoken.

“You wish to drink Firewhiskey? Isn’t that a males drink?” Lucius asked her.

“Only in polite company. But you aren’t polite company now are you Lucius?” Bellatrix said, moving around the lounge and taking the seat beside him.

“You could say that,” he responded.

“I heard you were officially off the market?” She asked.

“Ugh, my insufferable mother has decided it’s time,” he scowled.

Bellatrix took the bottle out of his hand and took a swig before turning to him, “My father has decided it’s time for me too. He set up a contract with one of the Lestrange brothers.”

“Those disgusting people? Why would your family want to be associated with those vile men?” He asked.

“Because there’s no other eligible wizards now that you’re courting my sister,” Bellatrix explained.

Lucius shook his head. He wasn’t going to make it easy for his mother to tie him down to Narcissa. She was the perfect pureblood princess. But that’s not what he wanted. He wanted someone with an opinion of their own.

The two sat for hours drinking through five bottles of Firewhiskey together and without a thought to their marriage contracts— Lucius took Bellatrix to his apartment in Diagon Alley and continued the party there.

It wasn’t until a month later that they saw each other again when their families were having dinner together.

Bellatrix quickly gestured to Lucius to gain some privacy. Once in the drawing room, she began to pace and said, “We have a problem.”

“What is it?”

“I’m pregnant,” she stated.

Lucius stopped dead in his tracks and stared, “Excuse me what?”

“I’m pregnant, I know. It’s not exactly convenient but it’s happening and we have to figure something out,” Bellatrix explained.

“You’re sure it’s mine?” He asked.

“Yes. Of course I’m sure. I don’t just sleep with anyone,” she said.

“Shit, what do we do?” Lucius said, running his hands through his hair in shock. How could this be happening?

“You need to talk to our fathers,” Bellatrix added.

“Okay, but for now let’s go back to dinner and I’ll tell them after,” Lucius suggested showing her back to the dining room and requesting to talk to their fathers once dinner was over.

Lucius sat there through dinner and watched Bellatrix laugh with his mother and hers, she wasn’t half bad.

And he actually got along with her, he wouldn’t have fallen into bed with her so easily if he did. She was the sister of the person he was engaged to. That was off limits.

But here he was— maybe it was time to follow what was in his heart. He quite enjoyed her company. He could easily say it wasn’t his and force her to marry the Lestrange brother quickly to hide the pregnancy scandal. However, he didn’t want to do that. He would be honest and take responsibility for what had happened. It was better than marrying her boring sister.

Once dinner was over he followed his father and hers into the Drawing Room and explained what had happened and that he wanted to change the contract to encompass Bellatrix instead of Narcissa.

Once all the details were sorted they returned to the families and told them of the change of circumstances.

Lucius stood in front of the Minister waiting for Bellatrix to arrive, their fathers had arranged a special license to marry due to the circumstances.

They had been courting for a month now, and Lucius was finally happy with the match. She didn’t let him get away with anything. She was capable of looking after herself.

Bellatrix could hold a conversation— time with her was never dull like it was with Narcissa.

Once Bellatrix arrived and the ceremony was over, their families met at a French restaurant and celebrated the marriage.

Narcissa was also happy as she had been in love with Rodolphus Lestrange from when she was a young girl and had been angry when her father and mother had paired her with Lucius even knowing she was in love with Rodolphus.

She actually pulled Lucius and Bellatrix aside and thanked them for their mistake.

They could live their life how they wanted to. Lucius was glad he hadn’t ignored what his heart was telling him and hid the truth— he was happy with Bellatrix.

It had been a year since they had gotten married and Lucius and Bellatrix had had a baby boy— Draco Lucius Malfoy was born on the 5th of June.

Lucius was looking forward to seeing his wife and bringing in the New Year with her. He was going to have a New Years kiss with someone he could actually deal with.

Bellatrix walked in with Draco and smiled at him, “Hi love.”

“Hey you, how was your day?” Lucius asked her.

“It was nice, Narcissa brought Pandora and I have a surprise for you,” Bellatrix said.

“And what would that be?” Lucius said as he took Draco out of his stroller.

Pointing her wand at her abdomen she cast a spell and Lucius gasped as the gold light hovered where her wand had been.

“You mean?” Lucius asked.

“Yes love, Happy New Year,” she responded.

Lucius nodded and walked over to her, laying a kiss on her lips, he pulled back and said, “Happy New Year, my love.”
