It only happens when you need it most; only when you're at your wits end, tears streaming down your cheeks and onto your pillow. Somehow, Park Jimin knew just when you needed him.
Your bedroom door was opened cautiously, even if there was no risk of waking you up. Your relieved, however; loud noises this late will do nothing to calm your nerves.
A familiar shadow moves into the room, backlit by the hallway. Then the door is shut again, shrouding the room in darkness again.
"Sweets?" He asks. It's his nickname for you— it always has been. Once he had found out how flustered you became with pet names, it's always been what he called you. Yet your relationship stayed platonic.
At least, that's what you thought usually. Only on nights like this do you questioned it. Question the delicate back and forth of love and friendship you and Jimin had.
He crouched down beside your bed and brushed a few loose strands of hair out of your face.
"What happened huh?" He inquired. You're too tired to reply— not confident enough to voice your worries aloud for fear of cracking the dam you built to keep them at bay. All you do in response is shake your head; Jimin understands, just like he always did.
"You want me to stay with you?" He whispered. He always asked, even if he knew the answer.
Jimin got up from the floor beside you and disappeared from your line of sight.
Then you feel arms wrapping around you, pulling you into the hollow of his chest. A few soft kisses are placed in your hair, then Jimin is burying his nose into your neck. He knew perfectly well it was your weakness.
"Sleep, darling. You deserve it."
His presence was more comforting than any blanket, the strawberry scent that always managed to follow him around more familiar than anything else.
"I'll keep the nightmares away again." Jimin kissed your ear, "I promise."
Unsurprisingly you believed him. Jimin had never broken that promise to you. Whenever he was with you, all your fears were pushed away, deep enough so for the time being you could forget about them.
So you did, and let your eyes slowly shut, let your body melt against Jimin's.
Only when your breath evens out into sleep does he dare say the three words that'd been burning his lips until now.
"Love you, Y/N."
