Work Text:
The day after a fascinating Dublin case: an heiress, spurned lover, stolen documents; will make a great write up.
Sherlock fancies the Zoo; John obliges.
John, waiting for Sherlock to return with ice creams, is watching the snow leopard enclosure.
Suddenly, one of the cubs jumps off a little rocky outcrop and the adult cat who is lounging near the bottom of it startles, leaping about four metres into the air. John can’t contain himself bursting out laughing just as Sherlock returns with the sweet treats.
“What’s so funny?”
“That little one just gave the one who’s stalking off the fright of their life; no real reason. They scared the bejesus out of them. Jumped so high I thought they were going to take off. It was too funny not to laugh.”
“The bejesus?”
“Suppose you had to be here.” John says, taking his ice cream,; finding something else to talk about.
It isn’t until a few weeks later John thinks again of the poor snow leopard.
Putting some books on the top shelf behind Sherlock’s chair, John steps off his stool coming down slightly hard on the floor.
Sherlock bolts up, turning, his dressing gown billowing; for a few seconds he stares at John wide-eyed.
John laughs heartily, smiling. “Knew that snow leopard reminded me of someone, love”
“Oh, bejesus!”
