Work Text:
Maki snaps awake, her body awash in cold sweat as she sits and rubs the sleep out of her eyes.
“Another bad dream.” She thinks to herself.
Letting out a sigh Maki gets up and slips her clothes on before grabbing her sword, “the” sword and laying across her lap as she begins to meditate. As she does her mind wanders to her and Mai’s last conversation; she plays it over and over again. It’s funny, she thinks. Mai was so mad at her for running ahead, yet in the most crucial moment it was Maki spriting to catch her little sister.
Letting out a breath, she looks up to the ceiling examining the cracks and divots in it.
“Should I have slowed down, would that have made things easier, would that have been the right decision?”
Maki smiled as she thought back to the twins' last conversation, and shook her head.
“Naw, besides can’t be looking back after all it would be out of character since I’m the sister who’s supposed to be moving forward.”
Maki then stood up and gave the sword a few swings and smiled to herself as she adjusted her grip.
“I know.” She said, looking at her reflection in the blade. “This time I won’t let go will bring this whole thing down hand in hand. After all, it is what I promised and this time I intend to keep it. Things are getting real rough so please look after me Mai, after all I can get a little ahead of myself.”
With her final request made Maki gave herself a nod before turning the knob out walking out the door. The fight with cursed Naoya had laid her up a little longer than expected and she was itching to get back into the fight.
