An Animal's Meal

Summary:

Bob was in the back of the Boys n' Grills restaurant, dumping out something rotten when he heard strange noises nearby. Crunching and chewing, the sound of teeth tearing into flesh. Most likely a raccoon of sorts. He went over to where the sound was coming from, to drive away the raccoon. But what he saw wasn’t an animal.

Notes:

All is well and normal in Bob's life, working at Boys n' Grills, serving up burgers. That is, until he finds something in the back

Chapter 1: It's in The Back

Chapter Text

As usual, Bob was working at Boys n’ Grills, cooking up some fresh meat he had butchered not too long ago. It was a bit of a slow day, Bob noticed that lately the restaurant had been garnering less and less customers. Perhaps he didn’t advertise enough. After he finished cooking the burger, he handed it to the one waitress that worked there to get it delivered to the customer. Bob knew that service was slow, but at least the food he served tasted delicious. According to reviews. He was also aware of the… rumors that were spreading about the type of meat Boy’s n’ Grills used in their burgers. They were mostly just spread between teenagers to scare each other but Bob knew what was really going on. Of course he did. And even though the rumors were true, no one had caught him, no one had questioned, no one truly knew what was in the food. Perhaps that too was the reason he had been getting less customers.

Bob was in the back dumping out something rotten when he heard strange noises nearby. Crunching and chewing, the sound of teeth tearing into flesh. Most likely a raccoon of sorts. He went over to where the sound was coming from, to drive away the raccoon. But what he saw wasn’t an animal, rather a young child, crouched on the ground eating a dead rabbit. The sight disgusted Bob. It seems like this kid had been out on the streets for a while, eating whatever they could find. They looked sickly, and malnourished. As soon as the young child turned to look at Bob they were struck with fear, dropping their meal. They wanted to say something, Bob could tell. “You’ll get sick eatin’ that” Bob told them. The child tensed at the sound of his voice, and Bob thought for a moment. He decided that he’d make the kid a meal, free of charge. It looked like they needed it anyway. “Come inside, I’ll make you some real food.” He said as he motioned to the door that led inside. The child stood up and followed Bob into the restaurant.

Bob cooked up a kid’s meal for the child, a small plain burger with a side of fries. The child was seated at one of the tables, waiting. In time, Bob finished cooking and he took it to the child. “Here ya are” he said as he set the tray of food onto the table. The kid just stared at it for a moment, as if they were in disbelief, believing this must have been a dream. Finally, they lifted the burger to their mouth and slowly ate, to savor every bite, as if he was an inmate getting his last meal. In a way, Bob appreciated the way that the child ate the food he provided, the way they made sure they could save the flavor for as long as possible. It was completely unlike the way they tore into the rabbit earlier, trying to eat it as swiftly as possible so that they wouldn’t have to taste the foul meat of it. Bob hadn’t even noticed how dirty the child was, covered in mud and blood which led to a few strange looks from other customers. As soon as the child was finished, Bob ushered them out of the building.
