Steve’s lovers had taken him to a remote cottage, somewhere in the world. They hadn't told him where it was and he didn't care. Not when he was with them.
Bucky had started a fire and he and Steve sat down in front of it while Emma and Sharon rummaged around the house.
"I always knew you had a thing for danger," Bucky said suddenly.
Steve protested. It wasn't a thing for danger, necessarily. He just knew when a risk was worth taking. He knew Bucky and the girls didn't always see it that way, though.
"You do," Bucky said. He was smiling. "And it's okay. I mean Steve, babe, you are dating some of the most skilled and dangerous people on the planet and you let us whisk you away at our whim."
Steve shrugged. "Only 'cause it's you three. I wouldn't if it was anyone else. You are not dangerous to me. You love me."
"We do," Sharon said as she and Emma joined them in front of the fireplace.
"We do," Emma echoed. "You really don't think we are dangerous?"
"I know you are," Steve said. "Just not to me. I've seen you fight other people. I know what you are capable of… I just trust that you won't do that to me unless you have no other choice."
He knew there could be a day where they'd end up on opposite sides. It was the nature of their jobs, their lives. He hoped it would never happen. He loved them too much to ever want to fight them. If it came to it… he'd probably let them win. Maybe Bucky had a point. Maybe Steve was intimate with danger. Maybe he did have certain desires. Or maybe… maybe he was just in love. Maybe he just knew that these people mattered to him, that they were his life. He couldn't be expected to fight them. It wouldn't be fair.
He'd rather not even think about it. No. It was much more pleasant to focus on the here and now. On Bucky’s body being pressed against his and Emma and Sharon playing with his hair. He wanted to focus on the fire in front of him and its warmth. He wanted to whisper sweet nothings to the people he loved. He wanted to focus on them and them alone. The outside world ceased to exist when he was with them. There was only this. Their bodies. Their love. Their peace.
Bucky climbed into Steve’s lap and Emma and Sharon sat down next to him, resting their heads on his shoulder.
"I just have a thing for you all," Steve said softly.
"I like that answer," Bucky said.
Emma tilted her head to kiss Steve’s cheek and Sharon said she agreed with Bucky.
"We have a thing for you too," Sharon said.
Steve smiled. "I'm glad."
He was glad. These people were everything to him. They'd found each other in the most extraordinary ways and fit together, even if people assumed they couldn't. So Steve was happy they felt the same about him. It would be a little awkward if they didn't. He'd be lost without them. So lost.
"I didn't think I'd get to have this," Steve told his lovers. "But now I get to love three amazing people."
"And we get to love you back," Sharon said.
Bucky and Emma echoed the sentiment. Then all three of them took turns kissing Steve and each other. It didn't turn heated the way it sometimes did. It was just an expression of love and of the intimacy they shared. It was beautiful. Days like these… Steve always hoped they could last forever.
They deserved this peace.
