Rui had messaged Tsukasa to meet him on the rooftop after school, it’s been a while since he had liked the bubbly blond. His colleague, who was also his best friend
The purple haired male was walking down the hallway, about to head up to the roof
He saw the star taking to Nene, Rui’s childhood friend also another colleague of his, he saw a hue of blush on Tsukasa’s face and he looks so filled with joy talking to her
Rui’s heart dropped to his stomach, eyes widened at the realization.
‘He looks so happy talking to her’
‘…’
‘I guess it’s over for me now’
The taller tried to smile as sadness consumed him.
With a few taps on his phone, he sent a message to Tsukasa

though he didn’t like lying, though, it’s not like he had a choice

After he saw that his message was seen, the taller shut off his phone and slipped it back into his pocket
‘Who am I kidding?’ He thought
‘We’ll always remain as director and actor, nothing less but also nothing more..’
He hid his pain behind a smile as if he stops, tears will stream down his face, and obviously he didn’t want anyone to see him in his vulnerable state
With one last look at the pair, he fled from the scene and hurried home
The pain in his chest is unbearable, it hurts so badly
Rui clutched his chest, trying to stop the aching pain
He felt sick
Rui got back home feeling miserable. He dropped his bag down on the floor of his room and sat down on his desk, finding something to do in an attempt to occupy his mind with something else
But even how hard he tried, his beloved still found a way to crept into his mind
The purple haired boy couldn’t take it, it’s like he’s been stabbed with a dagger that was buried deep into his chest
Tears formed in his eyes once again due to the unbearable physical pain
It was now 8pm. Far from the boy’s bedtime
The purple haired male couldn’t be bothered to walk to his room, he was too tired for that
It was unlike him to sleep at this hour, he knew. But to distract himself, he decided to sleep the night away.
Lowering himself on his chair, and on the desk he slept
Hoping that tomorrow, the pain will stop
It indeed did not stop.
Rui woke up on his desk feeling hard wood again his skin, he was used to it
His whole body aches and he still felt sick but it was way worse than yesterday
Suddenly, he started coughing so he brought up his hand to cover his mouth
“Guess today isn’t any better either” He mumbled
The former removed his hands and noticed something abnormal
His eyes widened
“..flower petals?”
It took him a while to process things but then his mind clicked
Yes, he has fall victim to the Hanahaki disease
A disease caused from unrequited love

It was already 7am in the morning, he didn’t have time to worry about what’s happening to him at the moment. He had to get ready for school

Upon arriving, he saw the blond waiting for him at the school gates. Rui shook off his negative thoughts and tried to forget the scenario that happened yesterday and this morning, acting as if nothing happened at all
“Fufu, hello Tsukasa-kun. Have I kept you waiting?” He greeted the shorter
“Nope! Not at all! Besides, a star can always wait for his director!” Tsukasa answered, energetic as ever
“Alright then, shall we head to class?”
“Of corse!” said the blond, and they walked over to the school building
In the hallway, Tsukasa remembered something and asked the taller
“Rui, by the way what did you wanted to talk about at the roof yesterday?”
“Ah— that-“ The taller lightly blushed, avoiding eye contact while also trying to make up an excuse
“Hm? What is it?” The shorter asked, curiously filled his mind
“I wanted you to see the show script I continued writing from last time at the Wonderstage. You can check it to see if everything’s perfectly done” Said Rui, scratching the back of his neck.
He knew well. He knew very well that the script was already perfect and thoroughly checked.
“HA HA HA” laughed the blond
“Why of course! Anything for my dear director!”
Rui blushed madly at the sudden nickname the blonde called him, he turned away from the shorter
“Ruiii let’s go to the rooftop! I wanna see the script you wrote” Before the purple haired boy could give an answer, the blond grabbed his hand and continued speed walking down the hallway to the staircase with Rui following behind
The shorter’s hand was warm, he felt happy when he got to experience physical contact with the shorter. He would always find an excuse to pat his head, comb through his locks of blond hair, placing his chin or laying his head on the star’s shoulders, and even lying down on his lap
The first time he did, the blond gasped flinching a bit and blushed, which Rui assumed to be out of embarrassment earning a chuckle from the taller
He didn’t seem to mind at all. The more Rui did the act, the more Tsukasa grew used to it. Until it was considered something normal between them

They were on the rooftop sitting on the floor which was a conner away from the door
“Sooo” Tsukasa started
“What happened after what we wrote?” The star continued
“Well..” Rui mumbled as he was trying to search for his folder which contained show scripts and academic paper sheets. Once he found it, he pulled it out of his bag and reached for the said show script
“Here” He handed it over to Tsukasa
The shorter received the script from his director also saying
“Don’t you have a separate folder for sheets of paper the school gave us?”
Rui only shrugged, obviously uninterested. Surely he doesn’t need one, does he? That’s something to think of later.
Tsukasa adverted his gaze from the taller to the show script in his hands, scanning through the text before him. As soon as he finished, he raised his eyebrows and looked back at the purple haired male who was wearing his usual cat like grin
“This looks like it’s already been checked”
“Because it has”
“Oh.”
The shorter stared at his troupe mate, dumbfounded
“Fufu〜 I just wanted to show the world’s future star the final product. That’d give him more time to prepare, am I right?
“Right!” Shouted said word’s future star, standing up with his hands on his hips
“Still” He continued while also facing Rui
“I wouldn’t doubt the ability of my director now, would I?” He teased, resulting in flustering the taller
Heat rushed to his face as a warm sensation filled his chest
“Ah-”
before the taller could finish, the doors to the roof opened, revealing a girl with light green hair. It seems like she was looking for someone
“Oh, there you are. I expected you two to be up here”
“Nene!” The blond called out
“Oya? What do you need” Rui asked the girl standing between the double doors
“I’m actually looking for Tsukasa, but since you guys are busy I won’t interrupt”
She was about to turn and leave but then
“Nene, it’s alright. We’re not that busy”
“Are you sure? Aren’t you writing the script?”
The purple haired boy smiled at her, saying
“No, I’m just showing the script to him. I’m already done with it. You said you’re here for Tsukasa right?”
“That’s not—”
Rui stood up, interrupting her speech mid-sentence
“I’ll take my leave”
Rui zipped up his bag and grabbed it, rushing out the doorway
Nene and Tsukasa looked at each other in confusion
“That’s weird..” The younger said. Still standing in the same position she had yet to move from
“Maybe he needed to go somewhere?”

‘Why now? Why suddenly now?’
Tsukasa was indeed correct, he needed to go somewhere
Rui was running down from the rooftop, feeling like he was about to vomit
The former hurried down the hallway to the nearest bathroom hoping no one was there to see him in this state
Rui arrived at the bathroom without being seen, guess it was still somewhat early in the morning for students to be patrolling the hallways
He went to the sink and brought up a hand to cover his mouth and just like this morning, flower petals did came out
The boy sighed. he was technically dying, day by day, and one day he would meet his end
Was it selfish of him? He still had his dearest troupe mates to care for him, and what would WonderlandxShowtime be without their director?
That was a thought for later.
Rui disposed the flower petals yet there was still much time to spare, he couldn’t possibly walk back up to the rooftop since he could already see two confused faces launching a handful of questions towards him
That was also something for later.
Rui decided to walk to the library since that was the best option he had so far
The moment he stepped in he was greeted with a familiar face
“Ah, Kamishiro-senpai, what brings you here?” Asked his underclassman
“Why hello there Aoyagi-kun, I just wanted to find something to read” At this moment, The taller really just wanted to do anything to pass time and get his mind off—
“You aren’t with Tsukasa-senpai today?” The younger asked, interrupting his thoughts
It hit him again. The mention of the star actor he loved so much is enough for the pain to flow through his chest. His kouhai meant no harm, he was clueless even
“He’s with Nene today, discussing about the next show”
“But if they’re discussing about the next show, shouldn’t you be there? Since you are apart of it after all”
Again, he asked. He didn’t mean to hurt him, he was just curious
“This morning I gave Tsukasa-kun the script, I decided that I was going to work on some show effects”

“I see” Toya nodded in understanding
“I wish you good luck on your next show, Kamishiro-senpai”
“Fufu〜 Thank you Aoyagi-kun” Rui answered, his signature grin appearing on his face once again

“What’s with these absurd trades of yours!!!!!”
It was lunch, he was once again with the blond boy sitting at a bench in the courtyard
“You wouldn’t want to see your friend suffer from eating these disgusting vegetables, would you?” Rui said dramatically, closing his eyes and bringing up the back of his hand in contact with his forehead
“Wha- you!- It isn’t my fault you hate vegetables!!!” The shorter shouted, handing his lunch box over to Rui anyway
“We can share..” He said in defeat
“Thank you Tsukasa-kun〜” Rui hugged the blond
“Really, I don’t understand why you’re trying to take my lunch when the school provides food for us in the cafeteria” Tsukasa muttered, blushing at the sudden contact while looking away from the taller
“Hmmm really? Then tell me, why do you bring your own food?”
“Well! Because my own food is clearly better than what the cafeteria gives us!” He says puffing out his chest
“Exactly” Rui grinned
“What”
“Your cooking is better than the school’s food, so since I had this option why would I take the school food?”
The shorter just wants to wipe that shit eating grin off his face
“Since when did I said it was an option?!”
“Oh look who’s sharing food with me now”
“T- That’s because-”
With no words to protest, he simply just stuffed food into his mouth
“Tsukasa-kun, you can’t just use the excuse of having food in your mouth not to talk to me” Rui teased, that said grin still present on his face
The blond then proceeded to shove food into the taller’s mouth, erasing that look from his face
A gasp escapes his lips at the sudden act, heart pounding in his chest as heat began rising to his face
The Tsukasa Tenma was feeding him?!
Rui went silent and continued chewing the food in his mouth, his vision drifting to the side
“Rui are you okay? Your face is red”
“A- Ah Tsukasa-kun I’m completely fine!” The purple haired male replied with his voice cracking a bit, it was unlikely of him to lose his composure
“Rui? You’re stuttering, that’s very unlikely of you. If you’re not feeling well just tell me” The shorter got closer to his friend worriedly gazing at him and brought up a hand to touch his forehead
“Your temperature is normal though..”
The taller stayed quiet not trusting his own voice, still facing away from the blond
“Why aren’t you looking at me?”
He had no choice but to speak, or else the star might as well keep bugging him
“I told you I’m fin—”
Before he could finish his sentence, the blond cupped his face causing their eyes to meet
From that moment no words needed to be exchanged, both their bodies moved on their own as if they were being possessed
They leaned impossibly closer to each other, face to face, nose not more than an inch away
A few moments passed and their lips connect
Time seemed to slow down between the two as they closed their eyes, enjoying each other’s presence
Some time later, they broke the kiss and regained their senses
‘What just happened what just happened what just happened what just happened wh-’
Rui was blushing furiously a lot more than before, his face was painted completely red and it spread to his ears and neck
‘What did I do?! Now what would Tsukasa think of me??’
The blond immediately removed his hands from where it was positioned before on the other. He turned his face away but his ears that were as red as the color of the tips of his hair didn’t go unnoticed by Rui
“WAAA!!! I’M SO SORRY!!!! I- I DIDN’T MEAN TO I DON’T— I DON’T KNOW WHAT CAME OVER ME”
‘Why was he apologizing? I was the one at fault’
Still in shocked Rui was trying to process the situation so he kept silent. He opened his mouth to speak but closed it without saying a word. He really wanted to apologize to the blond, but he couldn’t bring himself to speak any form of words currently
“I REALLY DIDN’T MEAN IT. I’M SO SORRY RUI!!! I’LL BE GOING NOW”
Before the taller could call out for him, the actor already left the scene and once again he was left alone by himself
“Didn’t mean it huh..” he mumbled
‘Look what you’ve done Rui’
‘Do you really think he’d love you back?’
‘Pathetic’
‘…’
‘You really did manage to fuck up this time’
Rui looked to his side. It seems like Tsukasa had forgot to bring his lunch box with him, he’d have to return it later. But not today, he didn’t felt like staying in school anymore.
So over the wall he went, he landed on the concrete floor outside of school and is about to leave for home

“you WHAT”
This was Nene, after receiving the news
“Yeah..”
“You guys kissed??”
Tsukasa looked away, embarrassed
“I thought you started liking him like a month ago?” Nene shot a glare at the blond
“Well no, I have been catching feelings for him a while ago.. but I just started to talk to you about it since I really need to get this off my chest” He replied. Still looking to the side, he brought up his hand to fiddle with the hem of his cardigan
Nene narrowed her eyes
“..And I needed advice” admitted the taller
“We’re been talking about this for at least almost a month” She replied
“That’s!-”
“How did you guys.. you know, and when exactly did you started liking him?” Nene asked the blonde as he looked away, light pink blush appearing on his features
“We were eating lunch and it just somehow- I don’t know it just happened??”
If to say Tsukasa was blushing, that’d be an understatement, his face was completely flushed red
“MY BODY MOVED ON IT’S OWN I WASN’T IN CONTROL OF MY ACTIONS!!!!” Yelled the blond facing the girl
Nene face palmed, “This idiot” she mumbled
“Ahem!” The blond male cleared his throat, light blush present on his cheeks
“The second question.. I don’t exactly know to be honest, around half a year ago..?” The taller adverted his gaze to the wall, suddenly looking like it was the most interesting thing in the room
The green haired girl looked at the taller with an expression she wouldn’t dare show to the public. Usually she’d be the quiet one who doesn’t really show her emotions, but this, is the exact opposite. in all honesty Tsukasa has not seen Nene this flabbergasted before. It looked kinda funny
“Nene are you okay” He questioned, chuckling a bit
After a few seconds, the shorter’s shocked expression had toned down. She looked at the former, clearly unamused
“Half a year? You call that a while??”
The girl, in which, didn’t receive an answer. Only the sight the blond who was nervously playing with his own hair, the girl sighed “What was his reaction”
“..huh?”
“When you kissed him, dumbass”
“I- I don’t know!”
“What do you even know at this point”

The following days passed and Tsukasa had been avoiding Rui due to sheer embarrassment
Which Rui thought Tsukasa hated him.
Every time Rui wanted to approach his star at school, it’s like he’d move away from him or make up an excuse to get the taller out of his sight
“T-Tsukasa-kun”
”Ah—”
”That day you forgot—”
“Rui! I need to leave!! I have uhm. Work! To do!”
And just like that he ran off
”—your lunch box..”
He didn’t have the chance to return his lunch box, he could do that once things between them are less awkward..
So he kept the star’s lunch box at his home. He dislikes cleaning, but for his beloved he could do anything.
Still..
They’ve interacted less than usual during practice too, the two girls have also seem to have realized
“Nene-chan.. did something happen between Rui-kun and Tsukasa-kun? Did they fight??” Asked the worried pink haired girl who was eyeing the two boys with a dejected expression
‘It wouldn’t hurt to tell Emu right..?’

“Ohhh so now Tsukasa-kun is avoiding him, we need to tell Rui-kun!!”
“What?! Wait Emu-”
“RUI-KUN! RUI-KUN! NENE-CHAN AND I HAVE SOME NEWS FOR YO-”
Nene ran after the shorter with the speed of light and covered her mouth just before she could finish her sentence
“Oya? What seems to be the problem?”
“Nothingggg now go back to what you were doing” The green haired girl replied, pushing her partner back to where they were before
“But Nene-chan! Aren’t we going to tell Rui how much Tsukasa lovessss him?” She frowned and asked
“We can’t! Tsukasa has tell him himself. You know how perfect he wants this to be, so you must keep this a secret”
“Awwwe fine I wish Rui-kun lovesss him back the way he does too!!”
Nene smiled at her “Let’s get back to rehearsal, if that idiot doesn’t act I’ll make him.”

days turned into a week then two weeks passed, yet Tsukasa was still too ashamed to talk to his dear director
“Can you stop ignoring him”
“Nene.. I just can’t”
“Why did you ask me for advice again”
“Because you’re the closest to him?”
“So why won’t you listen to me?”
“Hey! I am listening to you”

Rui was passing by one of the classrooms
“This has to be a perfect date!!”
“Cooperate with me then??”
‘Tsukasa and Nene.. a date?’

He felt sick once again
He started walking faster, and faster
And before he even noticed, he was running down the hallways
He needed to get to a bathroom

Along the way he spotted his kouhai leaning against the wall, water bottle in hand
“Yo senpai”
Rui had bumped into Akito’s shoulder causing him to drop his bottle but there wasn’t anytime to apologize, he can do that later.
“Oi! Watch where you’re—”
As he turned around to look at Rui, the taller kept running and took a left turn into the bathroom
“Geez, does he really need to go that bad?”
The ginger walked over near the entrance of the bathroom to collect his water bottle that he dropped earlier
‘Thank god there’s no one here’ Rui thought to himself

Again, he hovered his head over one of the sinks then raised a hand to cover his mouth out of instinct, and in an instant, he started coughing out flower petals and flowers along with blood
the sounds of coughing and chocking echoes throughout the bathroom
blood drips down his chin and it stains his shirt, some dripping off his hands into the sink
“Senpai, are you oka-”
Akito’s eyes widened as he was with a sight
“Shinonome-ku..?” Rui stood in shock as the two stared at one another
“W- What are you doing here”
“That’s not important!” The younger shouted “You’re literally about to die Rui.” He said, dropping the honorifics
”I’m telling your troupe members right now-”
“DON’T” Shouted the taller, coughing out more petals and blood from the action “At least, only tell Nene. She’s in her classroom right now”

(So basically it’s the last stage of Rui’s hanahaki disease, because he was an idiot who’s head over heels for Tsukasa, he was dying and Akito heard him coughing in the bathroom and walked into him in that state. Rui didn’t want Tsukasa to know so he told Akito only to inform Nene and not his entire troupe)
Akito immediately acted and got to Nene’s classroom, the door slid open revealing the two students within the class
“Nene” He said while gazing at the pair
Nene shot a glare at the ginger, standing before the door
“What do you want”
“There’s a problem, it’s about Rui”
“What do I have to deal with now?”
She stood up from her desk and starts walking towards the door, the blond followed behind
“Senpai, Rui-senpai told you that only her is allowed to come” Akito says, gesturing one of his hands towards the green haired girl
“Eh? Why would he not need a star’s help-”
“There’s no time, come Kusanagi”
The two rushed out the classroom leaving the confused blonde by himself
“Akito what is this even about” The girl asked as the were running
“Rui, he-”
“He has hanahaki”
“..what?”
“He needs to be send to the hospital immediately. I already called the ambulance in an area near school to avoid attention, we just need to get him there”
They arrived in front of the washroom and Akito called out for Rui who already finished cleaning up, he didn’t really want to agree to it since he’d rather die than lose feeling for his beloved star that shone beyond the stage of dazzling light
“Rui..?? Is this really true?”
“…”
“Why would you tell us sooner? You weren’t planning to leave us are you?” Nene shouted with tears welling in her eyes threatening to fall down her face
“…”
“Akito. Lead the way.”
The trio hurried down the building to the location Akito mentioned, they arrived just in time for the ambulance
They got on the vehicle and traveled to the hospital
“Rui you idiot..” Nene was crying, Akito hasn’t seen the student’s composer break like this before so he was a bit surprised. Grabbing his phone from his pocket he texted Toya and told him that the 3 will be absent from school after lunch because something came up, and they won’t be able to attend class

They arrived at the hospital and Rui immediately got sent to the emergency room. He needed to go through surgery in order to remove the flowers from his lungs
‘I’m sorry…’
‘…Tsukasa-kun’
‘I love you’
That was his last memory of the star

“RUI ARE YOU AWAKE?”
The purple haired male open his eyes to see a blurry figure of a person
He had bright blond hair with orange tips
Rui fully opened his eyes to see the blonde standing before him
The person smiled at him
“You really are awake! Rui do you know how worried I was?”
The shorter hugged the taller, they were in an awkward position but he could care less. He buried his face in the crook of the other’s neck, sobbing a little.
Rui could tell that he was very worried for him indeed, he accepted the warm embrace. They stayed together like that for a while until the shorter pulled away
“Thank you for your concern, I really appreciate it”
“But..”
“..May I ask who you are?”
