Chapter Text

Pedro is not happy. Today is his birthday, nineteen years old, and he’s not happy. How could he be, when Pablo isn’t here? Pedro hadn’t wanted to spend his birthday without his best friend, but Ansu and Ferran wanted to go to a bar, and Pedro hadn’t been able to say no to them. He should really work on that, saying no to people, because now he’s at a bar, drunk on shitty beer, and Pablo, sweet, seventeen year old Pablo, isn’t here.

Pablo, despite his willingness to get into fights on the pitch with people twice his age, is surprisingly concerned about following rules, and refuses to drink underage. He had no problem telling Ansu and Ferran no. Pedro wishes he could be more like Pablo. Actually, Pedro wishes everyone could be more like Pablo. Pablo is just so wonderful, in every way. So cute, even when he’s angry. So funny, and so thoughtful, and so talented and so-

“I wish Pablo was here!!” Pedro yells to Ansu. “I miss him so much!” Ansu laughs at him. “You saw Pablo like four hours ago at practice, how do you miss him?” Ansu doesn’t get it. Of course Pedro misses Pablo, because he’s here and Pablo isn’t. Silly things like the fact that they spent all day together don’t matter.

“I miss him, Ansu! I want to be with him.” Ferran, having heard Pedro yelling, leans across the table and stares at Pedro incredulously. “Can you really not be apart for two seconds? It’s your birthday, we’re at a great bar full of hot people, can’t you think of anything else?” Ferran doesn’t get it either. “I don’t want to think of anything else, I want to think of Pablo! He’s my best friend and I love him and I only want to think about him!” Pedro is starting to get frustrated. Why is here, explaining simple things to his stupid friends, when he could be with Pablo?

Pedro suddenly stands up. “I don't want to be here anymore,” he declares. “I’m going to Pablo.” Ansu frowns at him. “Pedro, what do you mean you’re going to Pablo? It’s one o’clock, Pablo’s probably asleep and I don’t even know how you’d get to his apartment, since you’re way too drunk to drive, and Xavi will murder you if someone gets a video of you, drunk on the Metro or in an Uber, talking about how much you love Pablo.” replies Ansu. “I don’t care and that doesn’t matter!” Pedro confidently retorts. “I’m gonna run to Pablo’s house and hug him and kiss him on the cheek and tell him how much I love and miss him and how much I want to see him all the time always forever.”

“Pedro, maybe you should sit down?” suggests Ferran nervously. Pedro has started edging towards the door, clearly eager to run to Pablo’s apartment, which is seven kilometers away, on a cold, drunken night. “I’m not sitting down, I’m running to Pablo,” Pedro exclaims. Ferran and Ansu exchange a look, then Ansu sighs and stands up as well. “Pedro, if you want to do this, we’ll come with you because it’s your birthday, just please don’t run off alone while you’re drunk.”

“Wait, we already ran so much today in practice, I don’t want to run anymore!” shouts Ferran, but it’s too late, because Pedro has already left and Ansu is running after him. If it wasn’t Pedro’s birthday, Ferran would punch him. Everyone knows about his crush on Pablo (except Pablo himself of course), but can’t that crush wait for one night of drinking? Evidently not. With a reluctant groan, Ferran runs after his friends. Maybe he’ll just punch Ansu.
