“We can share.”
“Remind me why we’re doing this again?” Kotetsu leaned back in his seat while Barnaby looked over the wine list.
“You saved the restaurateur's life,” Barnaby reminded him. “It would have been rude to turn down his dinner offer as thanks. And, it helps with your image.”
“My image is fine,” Kotetsu rolled his eyes.
“Saving his life bumped you up 300 points,” Barnaby pointed out. “You are now tied with Antonio. That’s good.”
“I’ve had my time in the spotlight, time to let you youngsters duke it out,” Kotetsu reached for his water glass. “Sides, you look good enough for the both of us.”
“Don’t sell yourself short old man, still got a few good miles on you yet,” Barnaby smirked at him over the wine list and Kotetsu shifted in his seat and tried not to blush.
“Gentleman, I’m so glad you made it,” the owner of the restaurant was beaming as he walked to the table. “And Wild Tiger, I just want to thank you again. I wouldn’t be here tonight if it weren’t for you.”
“It was nothing really, I just did what any person would do in that situation,” Kotetsu rubbed the back of his neck. “I’m just glad I was able to do something at least.”
“You’re being modest,” the man chuckled. “Anything you and your partner want is on the house. I insist. And if you need anything at all, do not hesitate to ask.”
“I’m sure we’ll be just fine,” Kotetsu assured him.
He thanked Kotetsu again before he walked off to check in with other tables. Barnaby set the wine list down and looked amused as Kotetsu sat back in his seat once more.
“What?” he asked.
“I think this is one of the first times I've been the ‘your partner’, part of that sentence,” Barnaby mused.
“How’s it look from the other side?” Kotetsu teased.
“Relaxing,” Barnaby replied. He nudged him under the table with his foot and smiled. “You did a good job. You should be proud, and it’s not the end of the world if you enjoy some of the perks that come with it.”
“I know…” Kotetsu sighed and nodded as he smiled at Barnaby. “Especially when I get to enjoy them with you.”
“That is a plus,” Barnaby smiled. “So, what shall we have then?”
“Well...since you said I should enjoy some of the perks, I thought we could start with dessert first,” Kotetsu answered. “The chocolate cake with the raspberry drizzle and side of ice cream sounded good…We can share?”
“They have a good bottle of red wine that’ll pair nicely with that,” Barnaby nodded as he let his feet nudged his again under the table. “Sounds like a good choice to me.”
