Chapter Text
Kylian was not particularly interested in football, but he was French and having nothing better to do, he of course, sat down and indulged himself in what he usually referred to as "a glorified competition that does not matter at all" aka the "World Cup Final".
Naturally, he didn’t understand much in those 150 minutes, except for some goals, and the fact that France lost, but one thing was very clear from the get go, no matter how ignorant he was to the game or just the concept of football in general, he was very certain that his country’s opponent that night was especially irritating. Especially.
which was preciously why he hadn’t got a single clue as to why he was called to the boss office exactly one month later and was told to packed his bag.
"Are you firing me?” Kylian asked monotonously, hand folded in half, staring at the person opposite. If his stare was a dagger, that poor soul would’ve shattered in pieces the moment he stepped in.
“I would definitely do that, if I had the authority” haven’t seen Cedric in almost a month after he fucked off to god knows where, Kylian almost forgot how much this guy irritated him, so he decided to do the least best thing he could, which was ignoring the idiotic remark.
“I actually got a job” Cedric said without a single care about Kylian’s attitude, as if he was not his own subordinate.
“And I chose it for you specifically” and his words successfully caught Kylian’s interest as he immediately sat down on the spare chair in front of Cedric. He might not like this superior of his, might also found Cedric a little too cocky with a mouth too big for his own good, but professionally speaking, they had never clashed. Their colleagues had always wondered how in the world did they work so well together, despite the fact that none of them had any respect for the other.
“But you do have to pack your bag this time, this is a long term mission” Kylian’s eyebrows raise upon hearing the almost alerting tone from Cedric. He's been working long enough to know that there's no limitations to what's required from this job. Being a professionally trained bodyguard for the top private institution of the country, forget months of his life, even his very life itself was secondary to his clients. The longest he needed to be at his mission was accompanying some politicians overseas for a week, at most two weeks. What’s such a big deal about it? So he waved whatever hidden meaning Cedric meant to implied off and get straight to the point.
“When do I start?”
"We’ll have to wait until his plane lands, then you go fetch him from the airport”
“Who’s he?” Kylian had to ask, for a person to require protection from this place, which reserved mostly for presidential level importance, his mouth might have to spit out diamond when he talks if he wasn’t named Emmanuel Macron or Josep Biden, and as if he could read Kylian’s exact thought, Cedric tossed Kylian a piece of paper.
“I don’t know if you know him, but he’s quite important”
The face, the beard, the almost irritating serious facial expression staring back at him from the photo, of course, how could Kylian not know him? He might have to land from Mars yesterday to not know this guy, because had he landed from Mars a little earlier than yesterday, Lionel Messi might still have been the first face he saw.
He tossed the paper back to Cedric, now got a bit of an idea as to why this person need protection, still expressing his discontent
“Does it have to be me?”
“Yes” Replied Cedric, without missing a beat. He was smiling too, which could only mean whatever’s coming Kylian’s way is no good.
“Why?”
“I don’t remember needing to provide any reasons for the task I assign but alright… he needs protection after winning the World Cup”
As if that answered anything! And the way he laid his back on his chair while jingling back and fourth, with a smile too wide for a grown adult and eyes refusing to leave Kylian alone even after being stare back at directly, step on Kylian’s every nerves. It was almost as if he was looking for reaction, any reactions at all that Kylian, evidently wouldn’t be able to provide, as he just stare back at Cedric unyiedingly.
“What? You don’t want to go?”
“I’m French”
“And….?” There he was pretending to be dense again.
“Does his club wish for me to silently got rid of him so they don’t have to settle the contract?” It was supposed to be a light sarcasm tossing back to Cedric but coming from this too serious of a tone and his dry delivery. It turned ridiculously comical, earning a light chucked from the dense Cedric.
And Kylian knew he completely understood what Kylian meant. Even though they were base in Paris, many people that here were recruited internationally. There were more than a dozen of different nationalities top body guard that Cedric could have chosen from, To ask this from a French guy, whom nation was defeated by Lionel Messi less than a month ago, even if Kylian didn’t care much for football, only further confirm Kylian’s theory. Cedric was an idiot.
“Well, you see Kylian, not all of us here is a wooden block that has no reaction even to Lionel Messi. So I think you are most suitable for this job”
So you’re telling me that those idiots couldn’t be professional? - was about to be said, until Kylian realized that right now he too wasn’t being anything close to professional, thus decided to shut up.
Then without waiting for his proper response Cedric declared
“Stop mulling over, get out of my office and pack your bag!”
And to that, Cedric received a mumbling “What an asshole” from Kylian.
