On the day of her birthday, a certain pink haired Zalak thinks back to her life in Kazimierez and her old man.

Notes:

Just a short fic I wrote for one of my favorite operators from Arknights.

Work Text:

How long had it been since Gravel had last seen her old man? Weeks? Months? Maybe a whole year or two even? But for the tease of a Kazimierian knight, it feels like it had only been just a few days since she was freed from her bodyguard duties for the famed Grand Knight Ioleta Russell. Barely a week since she traded blades, bolts and verbal blows with the eternally sour faced Centaurea the Platinum. And it feels like it was only yesterday, when she found herself enamored with the enigmatic 'Doctor' of Rhodes Island.

Yet even so, the pink Zalak found herself staring out the window into the distant horizons of Terra. Head resting on her palm, as her mind filled with thoughts and idle wonderings of how the ever shining city of Kawalerielki had changed since Rhodes left and the Nearls left their dramatic impact on the nation of Kazimierez. No... That wasn't accurate at all. More like, the little homesick rat was more preoccupied with how her old man was doing these days, what with him finally being free of having to scold her ears off for whatever infraction he felt like giving her a lecture over.

Was he enjoying the peace and quiet of a Gravel-less household? Or maybe old man Maypole had plucked some other unluckily girl from an unfortunate fate, just so he could exercise those long winded lungs of his again? Such thoughts brought a smile to the girl's face. Even a hint of a laugh had started to play itself across her lips, as an idea slowly dawned on her.

"I should write back every once in a while."

A letter, the old fashioned way, so he won't have to struggle with emails again like that one time. Telling him of all the little things and big things that's happened since she joined Rhodes Island. Of all the battles she fought, the struggles she's had, and of the people she found herself holding closer and closer to heart with every passing day. Tell him...

She's finally found a home.
