Work Text:
Korra was staggering on her feet as she dragged herself up the stairs to get to her dorm. She had just finished her 3rd shift for today at the docks, and she was exhausted.
“Ugh..need to sleep,” she said to herself as she inserted her key into her doorknob. However, the door didn’t unlock. She tried again and again, but it wouldn’t budge.
“Fuck. Just my luck that this fucking door was jammed.”
Putting her bag down the hallway, she wearily stepped back and breathed deeply. Okay, what to do? I can’t sleep here in the hallway, no matter how tired I am. Hmmm. Aha! Kora suddenly had a light bulb moment.
She grabbed her bag and pulled out her student ID card. Taking another breath, she prayed to the Spirits that her plan would work. Kneeling in front of the door, she swiped the card in the slit between the door and the frame. Again, it didn’t work, so she tried pushing it in a little bit further while turning the knob clockwise and then counterclockwise.
“Come on,” she muttered to herself. After a few tries, she finally got the door open. “Yes!” Korra grabbed her bag and threw it somewhere in the dark room.
In her tired state, she didn’t notice that something was off in the place. She didn’t notice the odd smell of something floral and motor oil. She didn’t notice that there were hazards scattered on the floor. She especially didn’t notice the lack of Naga welcoming her home.
Walking like a zombie, she dragged her feet toward the nearest comfortable surface: the couch. She flopped herself on the soft furniture, hoping to sleep immediately.
But that wasn’t what happened.
As soon as she dropped down, a yelp could be heard beneath her. Her eyes popped open at the sound. Suddenly, Korra found herself on the floor on her stomach. Pain shot through her right arm as someone put her in an arm lock.
“Ow, ow, ow! What are you doing?” she asked, gritting her teeth in pain.
“What am I doing? What are you doing here in my dorm? Surely you’re here to steal money from me? Or kidnap me? Or worse? Well, you picked the wrong person to mess with, buddy!” the woman angrily snapped at her.
Even through the pain, Korra noticed the smell of the person straddling her back. It was the same perfume lingering in the air that she only now noticed. She also noticed the sound of the woman’s voice. Sweet and alluring, even when angry.
Korra was mesmerized. She didn’t need to see the other woman’s face to know she was beautiful. Her cheeks tinged pink at the thought. The woman’s core on her back was not helping her situation. At all.
“Agh!” The sudden pain jolted her out of her thoughts.
“Answer me, or I’ll call the police!” the other woman reminded her who was on top right now.
“Wait, please. Don’t call the police. I’m not here to steal from you or kidnap you or something.” she said in a panic.
“Then why are you here?” Another pull on Korra’s arm had her yelping.
“I’m sorry, I thought this was my dorm. I was so tired from my 3rd shift, and before that, Coach basically ran death traps on the court. Ow, don’t break my arm, please! I need my arm.” Korra pleaded.
Finally, the woman let her go and stood up, pressure lifting on Korra’s back and arm. She shook the now numbing arm to let the blood flow again.
“Geez, you’re super strong,” Korra said as she got up.
“Thanks.” the woman said in annoyance.
Then shuffling could be heard around, and suddenly, lights lit up the room.
Oh, wow. Korra must’ve hit her head, too, because she became dizzy as soon as she saw her attacker.
Her gaze traced the woman’s form from head to toe; Jet black hair, green eyes that shone like emeralds, ruby red lips that Korra couldn’t help but think what it felt like to kiss, and that mile-long legs that she wanted to be wrapped around her hips.
Her thoughts were interrupted when the woman cleared her throat.
“Well?”
Korra noticed that her attacker was blushing, too. Why, though? “Oh, yeah. Sorry. I just…I’m Korra, by the way,” she said as she held out her unhurt arm.
“Asami.” the other woman said, blushing even further as she shook Korra’s hand. “So, uhm. Sorry for almost breaking your arm. I was just really startled.”
“Oh, no worries. I’m the one who should apologize for breaking into your dorm like that. And almost squashing you.” Korra said with a raging blush. This woman is really beautiful. Maybe I could get her number. This is how things go in romcoms, right? Okay, here we go. “So, Asami, let me make it up to you. How about I take you out for some coffee this week? That is if you’re not busy or anything. If not, that’s okay, too. No pressure!” she stuttered.
“Like a date?” the woman teased.
“Yeah, I mean, no…I mean, if that’s what you want.” Korra fumbled her response while rubbing her neck. So much for doing this smoothly.
Asami chuckled, her eyes crinkling in the process. “Hey, slow down. And yes, I would like to go on a coffee date with you. How about tomorrow? It’s Sunday. I’m sure you got a day off?”
“Yeah!” Korra yelled eagerly. “I mean,” she cleared her throat before continuing, “Yeah. I’m off tomorrow. Lunch?”
“Sure. Here,” Asami gestured for her hand, and she gave it willingly. The other woman produced a pen out of nowhere and wrote something on Korra’s hand. It was her number. It was her number!! Yes, Korra shoots, Korra scores!
She smiled her lopsided grin, trying to up her charm. “See you tomorrow, Asami!” she said while walking out of the gorgeous woman’s dorm.
“See you. Text me when you get home?”
“Yeah! I will!”
And with that, Korra walked to her dorm with a skip on her steps. She got a feeling that tomorrow’s gonna be a great day.
