Chapter Text
Dreams were a fickle thing. To SUNNY atleast. The boy had lived in his dreams for what felt like forever. And now for the first time in years, he was wide awake.
SUNNY stared right at the ceiling of his hospital room. This thoughts spiralled round and round his head while trying to recap what had happened in the past week. “Went outside for the first time in years, fought my inner demons, reunited with my friends, cut the little strands left holding together that friendship by admitting to murder..”
Yikes.
The past few days in the hospital, he’d constantly sneak out of his room and go to visit BASIL. They would just.. talk. Like how they used to.
But today he was being admitted to a psych ward. For attempted suicide.
“Oh.. that’s my fault too.”
Just when he was about to get up and turn on the TV to distract himself, there was a knock on his door.
“SUNNY? Its MOM, can I come in?”
Oh. And there was that too.
SUNNY’S MOM doesn’t know the truth about MARI. Would he have to go through that again with her? Maybe later.
“Come in.” SUNNY answered monotonously. A short woman opened the door. Her hair was in a low ponytail, dyed a light brown. The colour was so washed out that it was painfully obvious that its original colour was a deep black. She wore a purple t-shirt with a black jacket on top, a pair of leggings and old dirty sneakers.
As she shakily walked up to his bed, SUNNY remembered how she used to be. Confident with her hair done so often that SUNNY didn’t know how she looked without it. Wore colourful dresses and heels even when going to get takeout food. Look at what he’d done to this poor woman.
SUNNY started to feel guilty all over again.
“The nurses say that you can leave here tomorrow morning, so I’m going to pack up your stuff now so we can leave early. Is there anything extra you need?” She asked. SUNNY shook his head. “Ah, okay. “ She started to pick up a couple of the plants, her head constantly turning to SUNNY. She waited for a moment then sighed. “Are we not going to talk about it?”
“Talk about what. “ SUNNY asked, knowing full well what she meant. He’d been avoiding this too. “Why you’re here? How you got into a fight the night before we move away? SUNNY, I know the past few years have been .. well ..” She paused for a moment. There was a certain shine in her eyes that indicated that she was going to tear up. But she wasn’t going to let that happen right now. “We.. the whole reason we’re moving is for us to start a new chapter of our life. To move on from.. things..” She clenched her fist. “I know that you were just trying to stop that boy from .. doing things to himself .. which is why I’ve decided to not press charges, but-“ SUNNY interrupted her. “Press charges? For what? I would rather have no eye than no BASIL.” He replied sternly. “You don’t- SUNNY, sweetie, you dont leave the house for years even after all your friends have waited for you at the door time and time again and then now that you’re actually going to have to leave them behind you decide to lose an eye for one of them?! What has gotten into you?” SUNNY stayed quiet. He hadn’t been lectured like that in years.
SUNNY’S MOM sighed. “I’m just trying to get everything together so we can move on. That’s all, okay?” SUNNY didnt reply. “I’ll- I’ll see you tomorrow.“ The woman left the plants alone and left the room.
It was just SUNNY and his thoughts again.
