Even before he learned he was a demigod Jason always knew he was different, in a world where people can only see the color of their soulmate’s eyes Jason’s life was in full color. The other kids knew Jason as “The one without a soulmate”. When he joined the twelfth legion he lied and said he could only see brown. He just wanted to feel normal.
Jason paced around the polish marble floor as he heard the footstep of Reyna and her dogs entering the room. “Jason, you alright?”
“Hm? Yeah, just stressed, any clue on why monsters are being so much more active all of a sudden?” Jason responded.
“No,” Reyna said in almost a whisper, “But we shouldn’t dwell on that! It is your birthday after all,”
Silence hung in the air for a moment before Reyna spoke again, “Jason you and I have been friends for what feels like forever so I feel I should tell you this, I think you’re my soulmate. The one color I see is the exact same electric blue as your eyes.”
Jason looked up stunned at this statement before saying, “I’m so sorry Reyna I know I can’t lie with your dogs here so um I don’t have a soulmate. I see every color. I lied to everyone because for once in my life I wanted to feel normal and I was scared you all would see it as a weakness, I’m sorry if I lead you on.”
…
“Jason I’m sorry, I’m sorry I brought this up on your birthday, and I’n sorry you feel this way. Just know in the eyes of the twelfth legion you’re not weak, if anything having a soulmate is one more weakness a smart opponent can take advantage of.” Reyna said, Jason knew she was sincere but that didn’t stop her from tensing up as she spoke. “
Thanks Reyna,”
“Don’t mention it”
