The sight that greeted Nancy's eyes as she walked into her house late at night almost made her cry. Splayed out on the couch was her girlfriend cuddled up next to their dog. She looked so peaceful that Nancy didn't want to move so as to not disturb the sleeping woman.
Nancy quietly walked over to the small kitchen table and sat down her bag and keys. At this, there was a stir on the couch. Turning to the noise, Nancy saw a mess of honeyed hair lift itself up. The woman quietly laughed to herself as she went to the fridge for food.
"Nance?"
Nancy turned her attention back to the couch, where the electric blue gaze of her partner's eyes were looking directly at her. They were still blinking sleep from their eyes, but Nancy could see the pure adoration on their face. "Hey, Robs," Nancy whispered as she closed the fridge and went over to the sleepy lump of human on the couch.
The shorter woman bent over to kiss her girlfriend's forehead. The latter smiled dumbly up at Nancy. The two were wrapped in that moment of their own world before their dog happily barked. "Shh—Sparks, it's too late for loud noises," Robin grumbled. They attempted to get off the couch without falling, but their effort was fruitless. She stumbled forward, but before she could hit the floor, Nancy caught her.
"Thank you, m'lady," the tall woman said as she bowed. Nancy chuckled lightly at this. She beckoned her still-sleepy partner to their room for the night. "C'mon Robin, let's go," she ushered. The response she got was a loud groan and reluctant footsteps. "What if I don't want tooooo," Robin muttered, still very much half asleep. Nancy sighed affectionately before going over to guide the sleepy woman.
Wrapping her arm around them, Nancy lead the way to their room. Once in the room, she all but threw Robin onto the bed. "Heyyy!" her girlfriend complained. "That was mean," she pouted. Nancy did nothing but laugh quietly as she got ready for the night.

The bathroom door creaked open uncomfortably, causing the sleeping form of Robin to wake. "Who's there?" they whisper-yelled into the air. Nancy made her way to the bed and sat down next to Robin. "It's just me, my little bird. You can go back to sleep," she cooed.
Robin grumbled as she got under the covers. "I'm not a bird," she muttered. Nancy smiled down at the woman next to her, forever thankful that she was able to love openly for this adorable person. She shuffled underneath the blanket and decided to spoon her 'little bird'. As she finally made herself comfortable, her mind wandered to her past self.
That version of Nancy Wheeler would've scowled at the current version of Nancy Wheeler. She had to stop herself from chuckling as she thought about it. It was all so silly, but she wasn't as open-minded back then. Now that she thought about it, it was all of the Upside Down bullshit that made her pause for a moment and question: Am I really open-minded? Is what I'm disgusted by actually disgusting? And she's glad that she did pause for a moment.
After that epiphany, soon followed a blossoming friendship with Robin. That friendship eventually turning into pining. That pining then turned into a relationship. And in that relationship, Nancy couldn't be any happier.
