Work Text:
Jadzia Dax and Garak had known one another casually around the station for the past few years, but they weren't exactly close friends. They spent some time together off and on, but lately they had been seeing one another more often. They had both been feeling a spark between them that had yet to be explored. They had talked about wanting to do something special together, and Garak had a plan.
Garak smiled as he stood in his shop, finishing up the last few adjustments to Jadzia's dress. It was a deep blue color, with intricate patterns of yellow and orange along the bottom. He had designed it himself, using the finest Cardassian silks. He had created an outfit for himself as well; an impeccably tailored tunic and trousers in rich black and silver; and he had booked the holosuite for a night of dancing.
Jadzia arrived, and took a look at her dress, smiling.
Garak smiled. "I take it you approve of my design?" he asked.
"I'm amazed! This is beautiful, Garak. You are so talented!" Jadzia exclaimed.
Garak nodded in appreciation. "My dear," he said, "it's my pleasure to make you look as beautiful as you are."
Jadzia took her gown to the fitting room. When she stepped out, Garak was speechless. Of course it was no surprise to him that Jadzia would look stunning. The intricate, flowing fabrics and the color of the different materials complemented each other perfectly.
"I thought it would bring out the color of your eyes," he said.
Garak excused himself and got dressed in his own outfit. When he revealed his new look, it was Jadzia's turn to be speechless. She had never seen Garak look so handsome. The suit perfectly accentuated his figure. "Garak, you look wonderful," Jadzia said.
Garak looked down bashfully. "You're too kind," he said. "Well, shall we dance?"
They headed down to Quark's Bar. All eyes on the Promenade were upon the striking pair in their fetching out fits, although some of them gave disapproving looks. Jadzia and Garak did not let the curiosity or dissatisfaction of the random onlookers bother them.
Jadzia stepped into the holosuite first, and stopped in her tracks. She gasped in awe at the sight before her. Garak had gone all out to create the perfect setting for them to share. The walls of the holosuite were lined with colorful, exotic Cardassian tapestries, towering pillars hewn of pure glittering jevonite, and the floor was covered in a plush crimson carpet. In the center of the room, a traditional Cardassian dance floor had been set up with it's unique triune shape.
"Would you honor me with a dance?" Garak asked, offering his hand.
Jadzia smiled and took his hand. The holosuite was filled with the sound of classical Cardassian music, sung in an old dialect reserved specifically for song. The universal translator could not make heads nor tails of it, so Garak explained the meaning of the song. The two of them moved in perfect harmony, their feet gliding across the mirror shine of the dance floor. Garak was an excellent dancer, and he taught Jadzia some of the more intricate steps of traditional Cardassian dances. She picked it up easily. They laughed and twirled around the room, enjoying the feeling of the music and the pleasure of each other's company. The night seemed to pass in a flash.
At the end of the night, Jadzia and Garak stood in the middle of the holosuite, panting and laughing as one of the more lively traditional tunes faded out, replaced with only the sounds of their breath. They took the opportunity to stop and catch their breath. They looked into one another's eyes, and both knew what was going to happen. Without speaking, Garak took Jadzia in his arms and kissed her gently.
Jadzia's heart skipped a beat as Garak's lips touched hers softly. They stayed like that for a few moments, before Jadzia pulled away, smiling. Garak felt a warmth in his heart, such that he hadn't felt in years, and the feeling lingered long after they left the holosuite..
"That was wonderful," Jadzia said.
Garak nodded. "It was my pleasure," he said, squeezing her hand.
"I'm so glad we did this," Jadzia said.
Garak smiled. "As am I," he said.
They pulled apart, albeit reluctantly, to leave and return to their respective quarters. As they parted ways, Garak and Jadzia couldn't help but feel that this night was just the beginning of something wonderful between them.
