You Love Me For Who I Am

Summary:

Robin comes out to Nancy; feelings ensue.

Work Text:

Three months have passed after what people call the "Incident in Hawkins Plaza". A gas leak, they say, but Nancy Wheeler knew better. She knew the real reason of why the town square was at its current state.

"Hey."

Nancy looked to her left, where Robin was leaning on the porch railing.

"Hey, yourself. What's up?"

Robin took a deep breath. "Not much. Stressed out, that's for sure. How do you do it? All this... thing."

Nancy sighed. "When you've been dealing with things like this for years, you tend to develop a pattern. But even though it's been going on for a while now, I still wish it didn't. No child-f*ck, no one in general-deserves to go through what we have. But I guess even the universe has a mean streak every now and then."

Robin hummed." Nance, there is something that I've been meaning to tell you. Something important. But promise me that you won't get mad, OK? This is a delicate topic and I'm not really comfortable with sharing it but since you and I are friends, I thought-"

"Robin. Robin, stop." Nancy said, taking Robin's hands as she smiled at the blonde. "Nothing, and I mean nothing, that you say can make me get mad at you. So say whatever you need to say."

Robin took a deep breath. "I'm lesbian."

Nancy blinked, then blinked again. "You're..."

"Yep. There, I said it." Robin said. "Nance? Nance, say something. Please."

Suddenly Nancy chuckled. "So?"

Robin looked at the brunette in confusion. "Huh?"

"So what if you're a lesbian? It doesn't make you a lesser person. It doesn't change my view towards you."

"It... doesn't?" Robin asked, still uncertain.

Nancy shook her head. "Nope. To me you will always be Robin. Rambling, genius Robin."

"Oh, Thank God."

"Who else knows?" Nancy asked.

"Before you? Steve. Of course, in true Steve Harrington fashion, that dingus had the nerve to laugh at my taste." Robin chuckled.

"Leave it to Steve to act childishly. Do your parents know?"

Robin winced. "My mom and I don't really see each other eye to eye, and my dad just doesn't give a shit about my welfare."

Nancy laughed bitterly. "Well, that makes two of us."

"Not too tight with the folks, then?" Robin guessed.

"Not lately, no. With everything that's going on you know, Vecna, the Upside Down, Max... Things are just different, you know? And I broke up with Jonathan."

"Huh. I thought you two were good."

Nancy sighed. "I guess you can say we grew apart. And with the way he deals with all these, I just can't be with him."

"How does he deal with it?" Robin asked.

"Joint. Caught him several times with Argyle."

Robin sucked air between her teeth. "That bad, huh?"

Nancy nodded. "Yep. He promised me he'd quit but..."

"You know what they say, you can't teach an old dog new tricks."

"Sad reality of life." Nancy said. "OK, you said that Steve made fun of your type. What exactly is your type?"

Robin's face turned red. "Uh, first I had a crush on Tammy Thompson. Not a word." Robin warned as Nancy opened her mouth.

"Wasn't going to say anything." Nancy lied, grinning.

"F*ck you. Then there's Vickie, but then I realized it's just a fleeting, heat of the moment attraction."

"Uh-huh. And now? Any girl in mind?" Nancy asked, and was surprised when Robin blushed.

"Well, there is someone.  She's smart. Like, the smartest girl I know. She also doesn't take shit from anyone, especially guys. She's kind, a bit too strict at times, and reliable."

Nancy smiled as Robin's blush deepened. "Go on."

"She's also understanding, pays attention to people, and is shorter than me."

"Uh-huh."

Robin sighed. "She's also standing right beside me."

"She's- wait, what?" Nancy swiveled towards the blonde. "You're- are you-?"

Robin nodded. "Yep. Well, there it is. It's out."

"So... You like me?" Nancy asked for clarification.

"Uh-huh. You know what? This is stupid. I never should have told you. Now you're going to view me like I'm a freak, crushing on someone who doesn't even-"

"Oh, thank God. Finally."

Now it was Robin's turn to be confused. "What do you mean?"

Nancy pursed her lips. "Jonathan doing drugs is not the only reason why I broke up with him."

Robin tilted her head. "Elaborate."

"I'm bi, Robin. I guess I'm just pushing it deep down, but I'm both into girls and boys at the same time."

"Cool. Cool, cool, cool, cool. Anyone special?" Robin asked teasingly. Nancy in turn just looked at her with "who do you think?" expression.

"Oh. Oh. You like me?"

Nancy rolled her eyes. "For a genius, you can be pretty dense. Of course I'm talking about you." Then, on a whim, she leaned in and kissed Robin. The blonde looked at her with a dazed expression.

"What?" Nancy asked. "You don't like it?"

In answer Robin pulled Nancy closer and initiated the kiss. Nancy wrapped her arms around Robin's neck, closing her eyes and breathing in Robin's scent, sandalwood with a hint of milk.

"How was it?" Nancy whispered.

"Everything I have ever dreamed of." Robin said with a smile, kissing Nancy again.
