Thank You For Everything

Summary:

Ever since he was rebuilt by Tails and Cream, Gemerl has done nothing but dedicate his life to protecting his new family. However, he feels he should thank them for giving him a second chance.

Work Text:

~Vanilla’s Cottage – Wood Zone – Early Afternoon

The first time I met my friends, things did not go as well as one would think.

Back in the day – Dr. Eggman had collected the seven Chaos Emeralds and by using Chaos Control, he split the world into seven different pocket dimensions with the intent of conquering each of them. He believed that with each reality under his disposal, he could finally make his dream of building the Eggman Empire come true. Little did he know, Sonic the Hedgehog and his best friend Tails were stuck in one of these worlds and they only had two goals – find their missing friends and stop the mad doctor for good.

Knowing the blue blur would be there to thwart his plans again, Dr. Eggman created me. I was made with leftover data from my predecessor: Emerl – a Gizoid designed to be a learning robot. He was close friends with Sonic and the others before he sacrificed himself to save the world from the Final Egg Blaster, a superweapon that was so powerful – it could incinerate a star in a single blast. Emerl was made up of several personalities – Cream’s politeness, Sonic’s cockiness, Tails’ humbleness, Knuckles’ brashness, Amy’s compassion, Shadow’s humility, and Rouge’s cleverness.

I initially lacked those traits.

If one asked me how I would describe my old personality, I’d say “I could do nothing but go beep-boop.”

Okay, it’s a little more complicated than that, but I was nothing like my predecessor.

I was only made to serve one function – destroy Sonic and his friends.

Dr. Eggman first deployed me to a zone called Route 99 – a futuristic city where Sonic and Tails began their adventure. I was quick to ambush the two heroes only to lose, and the other times I tried to stop them, I was met with the same fate.

The only time things changed was when something unexpected happened.

At The Emerald Altar – the location of the Master Emerald, I was fused into Dr. Eggman’s machine – The Hyper Eggrobo – but despite the amount of work put into that machine, Sonic and his friends were still able to defeat him.

Just as Dr. Eggman and I were about to escape, something clicked inside of me; a signal ignited in my systems and I suddenly felt like I wasn’t under the doctor’s control anymore. To this day, I still don’t know what caused that malfunction in my programming but I guess it had to have happened for a reason. I stopped in the middle of my retreat, and I turned around, where I boosted into Sonic and kicked him in the chest. That caused the Chaos Emeralds to fall onto the ground and without hesitation, I absorbed their energy and channeled it into my ultimate state.

I'll never forget the maniacal laughter coming from my former master when that happened – he felt as giddy as a kid on Christmas Day. He laughed and ordered me to destroy Sonic for good, but instead, I reached my arm out and grabbed his Egg Mobile – slamming him against the ground – he almost crashed into Sonic, who was just as shocked as everyone else. I then ascended into the outer reaches of space with a new goal in mind - I planned to destroy the world as I knew it and overthrow the Eggman Empire. Similar to what Neo Metal Sonic attempted to do some time ago.

Shockingly, Sonic and Dr. Eggman decided to team up to stop me.

With the former in his super form and the latter using energy from his Egg Mobile to bypass my shield.

The battle lasted for a few minutes before I was finally defeated and reverted back to normal. I assumed they would leave me floating through the space – where I'd be surrounded by nothing but pitch-black darkness – but Super Sonic had a different idea.

With one fatal kick, he sent me crashing back to the earth.

I landed in the water and washed up on the beach, where I thought I'd be left to rust.

…but fate had other plans.

My rough landing must've been heard from afar because two figures approached and grabbed me. One of them opted to take me somewhere where I would be rebuilt into someone different – someone better than the person I was before.

The person who rescued me was none other than Cream the Rabbit.

I did not interact with Cream as much as I did Sonic and Tails, but I remember encountering her during my travels. She chose not to fight me like the others, but I remember the angry and scared looks she'd have on her face when she saw me attack Sonic and Knuckles.

Who would have thought a kid petrified of an armed robot would be the one to save said robot?

Cream took me over to Tails' workshop, where he restored my hardware and reprogrammed my software. He gave me new parts to replace my old ones and installed a microchip that had data from my predecessor.

It wasn’t the same data that Dr. Eggman equipped me with, it was different.

Do you remember what I said before about not having Emerl’s personality traits at first? Well, here I was now with the proper biodata of my previous incarnation.

Ever since Tails rebuilt me and removed Dr. Eggman’s influence on me, I could not be any happier.

I’ve had a lot of fond memories since I was given a second chance. From cooking with Vanilla, building another Tornado with Tails, racing the fields with Sonic, to spending time with Cream – I could not ask for more. Not everything has been sunshine and rainbows; however, I prefer to focus more on the positives than the negatives. That’s what Sonic taught me after all.

Moving to today, I found myself outside of Cream and Vanilla’s house – a small white cottage with a pink roof and plants growing all over. We lived in a small remote village just outside of Night Carnival called Wood Zone. It wasn’t as popular as communities like Emerald Town or Central City – it was mostly quiet with around fifteen houses that take up some acres of land. Most of the houses were spread apart and were blocked off by fences. Most neighbors built them so they would not be on top of one another, which I respected.

I did not think I would fit into this community given my past, but thanks to Cream, everyone knows that I am not here to harm them.

Instead, I am doing something no one would ever suspect a robot to be doing – chopping down firewood.

While it wasn't wintertime just yet, it was getting closer to that season which meant everybody needed firewood for their furnaces. Most people would drive out to Central City to pick up supplies from the store but, I was taught by Knuckles how to get wood the old-fashioned way.

I stood in the middle of the forest with my hand clenched into a fist – I reeled my arm back before I flung it forward and punched the bottom of the tree. In a split second, the bottom cracked, and it suddenly fell over. Racing ahead of it, I caught the large tree with my metal hands and set it down, looking around to see if anybody got hurt.

Thankfully, no one did, and I repeated the same process a few more times.

But just as I was about to fly over to the next tree, I heard the house’s window open, and a familiar voice called out to me.

“Gemerl! Gemerl, dear!”

It was Vanilla – a sweet rabbit who loved me just as much as Cream did.

To be honest, I found it hard to believe Vanilla of all people would let me stay with her. She wasn't as adventurous as her daughter and she was scared of Dr. Eggman's machines. You'd think she'd melt me into scrap and throw me in the trash, but nope. As soon as Cream introduced her to me, she said and I quote "Any friend of Cream is a friend of mine. You're more than welcome to stay here, honey."

That was a moment that lived freely in my head.

I picked up the tree I had chopped down and turned to the cream-colored rabbit. “Firewood for the next three years coming up, ma’am.”

She chuckled at how large my item was, and she scratched the back of her head. “I appreciate it, Hun. But that can wait. We need you inside.”

Placing my large item down, I approached the window and squinted my eyes. “Is there something wrong?”

“No, nothing’s wrong, Dear,” Vanilla reassured me with a smile. “Come inside. Cream wishes to show you something.”

“Oh?” I asked. “I will be right in.”

Vanilla closed the window as I approached the stairs and opened the door.

I opened it slowly as part of me was nervous as to what Cream had to show me.

For some odd reason, I partially believe there’s a birthday cake with the words Happy Birthday, Gemerl written across the top. I would not mind if that was the case as it’s the thought that counts, but a disadvantage of being a robot is that I can’t eat. I don’t have a mouth either so that doesn’t help much. Plus, I don’t think robots have birthdays.

It’s not anyone else’s birthday either. I have everyone’s birthdays installed in my memory drive – there’s no way I’d forget.

Without further delay, I opened the door and was greeted by Cream herself – who wore the same smile she usually had. Logically, it is impossible to physically wear facial emotions, but since she always has a smile on her face, it might as well be considered clothing.

I stepped inside and closed the door behind me.

Approaching Cream with a few small steps, I felt her leap into my arms, and she hugged me tightly. I almost tripped backward when that happened, but I was quick to catch myself as my jet booster lifted me back up. Looking down at the young rabbit below me, she gazed into my bluebell eyes with a warm smile and tender eyes.

I hugged her back and chuckled. "Ha-ha, what is this for, Kiddo? I was no more than twenty meters away from the house."

“It’s not that,” Cream smiled. “I… I made you something.”

When she released me, she reached into her pocket and pulled out a piece of paper.

Cheese, who had been floating by her side, nodded and squealed with delight.

“Cheese, don’t spoil what it is,” Cream said politely. “I don’t want the surprise to be ruined.”

“Surprise?” I inquired. “Cream, you did not have to get me anything.”

"But I wanted to," she said with a wink. "You've done so much for Mother and me."

I gently took the paper from her hands and unfolded it, where I looked down and saw what she had made.

It was a picture of all five of us – Cream, Vanilla, Cheese, Chocola, and me sitting by a table with a feast unlike any other. There was a large plate full of scrambled eggs in the middle and various foods surrounded it – pancakes, waffles, buttered and cream-cheese-covered bagels, toast, cinnamon rolls, bacon strips, sausage links, and much more. I looked at the rest of the picture and noticed we weren’t the only ones there – Sonic and Vector were on the left side stuffing their faces with bacon and sausage pieces wrapped in pancakes.

I gotta give Cream this, she sure knows both of them well.

Tails brought out some freshly baked muffins. I chuckled at the fact he was wearing mint-colored oven mitts. Amy and Knuckles were chatting amongst themselves while Espio rolled his eyes at Vector making a glutton of himself. I could not see see a certain young bee anywhere, but after looking around, I finally noticed him sitting on top of the ceiling fan riding around. If that were to happen in real life, I’d probably order him to get down.

Last but not least, Blaze the Cat was there as well. I wasn’t too familiar with her as Cream met her while I was out running errands. From what I hear, she’s pretty nice. I’ve always wanted to meet her someday. She was enjoying her breakfast alongside Big the Cat, who was just as happy as everyone else.

Everyone was drawn pretty accurately. Yes, some of the colors went outside the lines and the sketches weren’t professional artist standards but I’m not a critic; I don’t even know much about fine art. But if I were an art reviewer, I’d definitely give Cream a prize for all of her hard work.

Just as I was about to tell her what a good job she did, there was something that caught the corner of my eye.

Using my optic sensors, I zoomed in on the portraits of Cream and me, where I was taken back by how it was drawn.

She was hanging on my right arm as I placed the eggs on the table and both Cheese and Chocola flew around me. Vanilla stood behind us, smiling at the playful sight. However, the innocence of the drawing wasn’t the only thing I liked about it.

There was a small note on the bottom of the page that said, Thank you for everything.

My eyes widened and I lowered the paper, staring down at the younger rabbit.

Now I wish I did have a mouth because if I did, my jaw would drop and I’d have the biggest smile on my face – and yes, that smile would be bigger than Sonic’s grins.

But even without a mouth, I could not help but close my eyes and pull Cream close to me. “Thank you, Kiddo. I love it… but I should be thanking you.”

“Hmm?” she raised an eyebrow as she released me. “What did I do?”

I paused for a quick moment before I responded, “You too me to Tails’ workshop and had me reprogrammed. It is because of you; I am choose how I want to live my new life. Any other person would have left me to rust by that beach, but you saved me. I feel that I owe you more than you owe me.”

“But you don’t need to,” Cream replied, placing both hands on my shoulders. “You being here for Mother, and I is more than enough. Mister Tails put you back together and you came to live with me. You’ve done so many nice things for us. I want to thank you for all of that.”

“It’s true, Gemerl,” I heard Vanilla’s voice from around the corner. She came out of the kitchen with Chocola by her side and stepped into the living room. With the same smile as her daughter, she placed both hands together and nodded. “You’ve done a lot for both of us. We wanted to reward you for your generosity.”

"I would not be this way if I weren't for you," I said to Cream, who closed her eyes, tilted her head, and blushed. "Thank you, Cream.”

I patted her head and she chuckled, happy to know that I loved her present.

But what she did not know was that I felt I should do something for her in return.

If it weren’t for her and Tails, I would not have done the things I’ve done for everyone.

I refused to admit my true feelings as I figured they would tell me otherwise, but I wanted to do something nice for Cream and Vanilla.

The problem is… what could I do?

~Vanilla’s Cottage – Wood Zone – Night

For the rest of the day, I failed to stop thinking of what I should do to repay Cream.

I know she likes a lot of things like tea parties, adventures, drawing pictures, and helping Vanilla out in the garden, but how am I supposed to get her a present related to those?

Should I make her a picture of my own? No, drawing isn’t within my copy abilities. Plus, she already made me a picture. That would just be copying her idea.

I could do something in the garden, but it’s already filled with several perennials and shrubs. I doubt Vanilla would want any more plants.

Taking her out on an adventure would not be the best idea either. The last thing I want is for her to get hurt by the hands of Eggman. I’m aware I could take her out on a harmless escapade, but there are all kinds of dangers in the world – I’m not putting her in harm’s way like that.

And I have no idea how to host a tea party. I’ve made tea, but that’s a different story.

The point is I wanted to do something more original.

Something that would make her realize how much she means to me. I could make her a drawing as Tails has taught me that skill, but that would seem like a copy of Cream’s idea.

Nighttime has arrived and I tucked Cream into bed a few minutes ago. Vanilla went to sleep on her own while Cheese and Chocola rested on the couch. I sat right next to them as they cuddled beside my legs, using them as pillows.

I heard Chocola yawn as she stretched her arms and nested beside me, holding onto my leg so tight, not even a single poke would make her let go.

As I sat and pondered, I stroked my chin and looked down at my card again. Looking around to see if anybody was awake, I carefully leaned forward so Cheese and Chocola would not be disturbed. Reaching my silver fingers out, I grabbed the card and opened it up again – seeing the holiday feast enjoyed by all of us.

I softly chuckled at Sonic and Vector’s pancake eating contest, and I steered my eyes toward Tails, who was ecstatic to be bringing out the muffins.

Seeing Amy and Knuckles made me think about some fun times we’ve had together, and I always get enjoyment out of seeing Espio get annoyed with his teammates.

Charmy was having fun playing on the ceiling fan, but my attention focused on one crucial thing – me and Cream.

She hung off of my arm and laughed as I placed the main course on the table. Both Cheese and Chocola flew proudly and happily as Vanilla watched with a tender smile.

It was clear Cream spend the most amount of time on that scene alone as it had the most colors and the outlines were just right. Not that everyone else had bad outlines; this one was just the center of the piece.

I stared at it for a while, thinking and thinking.

How could I repay Cream for all of her kindness?

Seeing my two-dimensional counterpart place the plate of eggs on the table suddenly gave me an idea.

I widened my eyes and leaned back, staring at the ceiling above me.

I turned around and looked at the kitchen over my shoulder, comparing it to how it was in the drawing itself.

Of course. How did I only get this idea now?

It was at that moment I looked back and forth between the picture and the kitchen when I said to myself. “I know I must do.”

~Vanilla’s Cottage – Wood Zone – Morning

Morning could not come sooner enough and the first thing I did was contact everybody that was in the photo. Some were easier to call than others – how the heck does anyone communicate with Knuckles when he doesn’t have a phone? Do they send a raven or something? I don’t know.

Getting back on topic, I told everyone about the photo Cream made me yesterday and asked if they could help me do something for her in return. Not going to lie, I should have expected some of the deadpanned looks from people like Amy, Knuckles, and Vector.

I did call them pretty early in the morning, so I don’t blame them for being mad at me.

Nonetheless, they all agreed to help out.

They arrived in Wood Zone sooner than I expected. From there, I quietly opened the door and let them inside; my goal was to get this done before Cream and Vanilla woke up. The gift would be more meaningful that way.

Sonic and Tails arrived with three bags of bagels of various flavors, Team Chaotix came by with some packets of bacon and cartons of eggs, Big brought some extra pots and pans from his hut, and Amy helped Knuckles pick out from fresh fruit from Angel Island – apples, oranges, grapes, bananas, blueberries, you name it.

As for Blaze, I managed to get in contact with her thanks to Tails, who informed me that she originated from a universe known as the Sol Dimension. He and Sonic have been there during their travels, and they somehow got in contact with the fiery princess. She came through the front door with a few sausage links she claimed were made by the people of Southern Island.

I’m wondering how everyone’s going to react to food made from another dimension.

Case in point – phase one of my plan was complete.

Phase two was going to be the hardest part.

Everyone showed up an hour after I called them, but it was still early morning – Cream and Vanilla weren't awake at this time. To keep the surprise, I needed a way to keep them upstairs. So, I had both Espio, and Knuckles watch and listen for them. Charmy initially volunteered, but everybody knew he’d find a way to make them up. He denied this of course, but we all knew better.

Cooking in the kitchen was easier said than done. Vanilla doesn’t have the biggest kitchen so some of us had to go in shifts. Blaze used her pyrokinesis to heat up the sausage and bacon – she almost burned the latter had Big not said something about smelling burnt pig. Amy and Vector cooked both sunny-side-up and scrambled eggs, Sonic and Tails were making a dish the former cooked up known as a breakfast chili dog, Knuckles and Espio remained at their post listening for Cream and/or Vanilla, and everyone else was setting up the table.

“How are those scrambled eggs coming up, Vector?” she asked as she cracked one egg and placed it on the pan. With it being hot, the egg began to sizzle and cooked faster than expected. She removed the sunny-side-up dish and placed it on a plate, not wanting it to get burned.

While I was cleaning some of the pans we've already used with a sponge, I looked over at Vector who was humming the Chaotix's theme song. He looked over his shoulder and replied, "They're coming good, Amy!"

“Shhhhh!” everyone said as he spoke loudly.

I would have done it myself, but my friends beat me to it.

“What?” he moaned. “I’m just saying they’re cooking.”

“I know that,” Amy replied. “But we need to keep quiet. Gemerl wants to surprise Cream and Vanilla.”

“Don’t you guys think it’s a little messed up how we’re going to eat all of this food and Gemerl can’t have any?” Charmy inquired. “He cooked it and we’re all going to eat it. Doesn’t that seem… weird?”

Knuckles and Espio shared an awkward glance when they heard that.

I just chuckled. "Ha-ha. I appreciate the thought, Charmy, but I lack organs for eating. I do not need sustenance to function. Thank you for thinking of me though."

“Oh, you’re welcome,” Charmy chuckled as he helped cut a few bagels open with a large knife. Sonic quickly stepped in to help him so he would not cut himself. You should always ask an adult for help when using sharp utensils.

“Do you drink oil, Mister Robot?” Big approached me from behind and asked.

"Unit's designation is not Mister Robot, it is Gemerl," I replied. "To answer your query, Big – Negative. I simply run on a battery that gets charged every night."

“Gemerl’s battery will last him a long time,” Tails replied. “When I fixed him, I changed a little bit of his battery programming. Normally, it would die out in a day, but I changed it so that it would last a few years before it needs another charge. He technically doesn’t need to charge it every night, but it’s nice to know he’s on top of it. This means he’ll be sticking around for a long time.”

“You know me, Tails,” I answered, placing a cleaned dish back where it belongs. “How is it going over there, guys? Has the rest of the food been prepared?”

“I don’t know,” Sonic said as he reached for one of his breakfast chili dogs – it was a hot dog covered in scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, and a special breakfast gravy. I performed a scan on it not too long ago and without getting specific, he put some questionable ingredients in there. “Let me do a quick taste test.”

I was just about to turn around and stop him when I saw the hand of Blaze gently swat the hedgehog's hand away.

"Sorry, Sonic," she said shaking her head.

"We need to wait until Cream and Vanilla wake up."

“How long have they been sleeping for?” he complained. “It’s got to have been like what, three hours now? Come on, I’m starving.”

“I am thankful patience has been programmed into my system,” I said to Amy, who laughed.

“I heard that!” Sonic grunted.

“You were supposed to,” I replied.

Everyone else in the room laughed as quietly as they could.

After I put the last dish away, I walked towards the table and my eyes widened with shock.

Except for the eggs, everything had been prepared. Steaming hot bacon strips and sausage links were stacked on two separate plates. Evenly cut bagels sat across from the meat. Trays of butter and cream cheese had small knives on the side for anybody to access easily. Amy brought in a stack of muffins that were placed on a tray that looked like a tower. All of the fruit was organized into separate bowls and silverware, napkins, and cups filled with orange juice and milk blanketed the whole table, which was covered in a pink tablecloth. Last but not least, there were four plates of pancakes filled with various toppings – bananas, blueberries, chocolate chips, peanut butter chips, and strawberries.

I said this before but if I had a mouth, I’d have the biggest smile on my face.

“This looks amazing, everyone,” I said. “Thank you.”

“You’re welcome, Gemerl,” Amy smiled as she patted my shoulder. “I think what you’re doing for Cream and Vanilla is nice.”

“Here comes more scrambled eggs for papa!” Vector said, putting the last batch of eggs on his plate. He placed all of them on the table and wiped his hands. “Mmm-mmm! Can’t wait to dig in!”

“You won’t have to wait long, Vector,” Espio smiled, motioning to the hallway behind him. “Someone’s coming downstairs.”

“Better get in position,” Knuckles said.

“Yes, please,” I said.

Everyone gathered around me, and we all stood still, waiting for a certain someone’s arrival.

Approximately fifteen seconds passed and we could hear Cream's voice echo from upstairs.

“Mother, do you smell that? It smells delicious downstairs!”

“Odd… Gemerl must be cooking breakfast. I told him I would do it, but that was thoughtful of him.”

“Oh… she has no idea,” Sonic smirked, gently nudging me.

Cream and Vanilla came downstairs as Cheese and Chocola woke up from the couch and instantly smelled all of the food beside them. They widened their eyes and smiled as soon as they saw what was happening. They floated toward their friends, who greeted them with hugs and kisses.

“Good morning, Cheese and Chocola,” Cream said as she closed her eyes. “Good morning, Gem… Gemerl?”

She widened her eyes as she said my full name and gasped. “Mother… look!”

Vanilla looked to where her daughter pointed and instantly locked eyes with me – she mirrored the same expression as Cream and cupped both hands over her mouth. Seeing that kind of reaction gave me hope this was going to work.

On the count of three, everybody joined me in saying, “GOOD MORNING!

“What… is all of this?” Vanilla inquired with a bright smile.

“What do you think it is?” Charmy laughed. “Breakfast!”

"I can see that, Mister Charmy, but…" Vanilla stopped because she was in awe of how much we cooked. "Did you cook all of this by yourselves?"

“Sure did,” Vector said with a cheeky smile. “I cooked all the eggs by myself.”

“Ahem!” Amy snarled, folding his arms.

“With a little bit of help, of course.”

“This looks amazing,” Cream said. “Thank you, everyone.”

“Don’t thank us, Cream,” Blaze replied as she placed both hands on my shoulders. “Thank Gemerl. This was his idea after all. He called us to help him make this happen.”

“Pretty early, mind you,” Knuckles rolled his eyes.

“Apologies,” I said kindly.

“I’m shocked you sleep while guarding the Master Emerald, Knux,” Sonic smirked. “Didn’t Rouge steal it from you while you were sleeping?”

“That was one time!” he grunted, clenching his fists. He aimed them at Sonic’s face.

Cream and Vanilla immediately looked at me with widened eyes and dropped jaws.

“Gemerl?” the former said. “This was all you?”

“Indeed,” I said.

“This was so sweet, thank you… but why?”

Before I could respond, I walked toward the living room coffee table and reached for the card she made for me. I unfolded it and showed it to her. She gently took the card from my hand and looked at the scene in front of her.

I pointed to the quote she wrote at the bottom, and she read it to herself.

Thank you for everything.

"But… I told you that you didn't need to thank me," she said.

“I know… but I wanted to,” I replied. Kneeling down, I got on my knees and placed a hand on her right shoulder. “I would not if it weren’t for you. You gave me a second chance to live and be happy. Being programmed by Tails and getting the chance to live with you is something I will always be grateful for. I know you thanked me for all that I’ve done, but none of those things would be possible without you and Vanilla’s kindness. In fact,…”

I stood up and looked at everyone. “None of this would be possible… without all of you.”

A thousand smiles lit up the room as I said that.

“Thank you… for everything,” I said.

A moment of silence filled the room before Cream and Vanilla approached me and showered me with hugs. Cheese and Chocola sat on top of my head, showering me with the same affection. All five of us stood like this for a while before a certain blue hedgehog clapped his hands and stretched his arms.

“All right, who’s ready to dig in?”

“Of course,” I said, releasing both rabbits from my grasp. “All of you may eat.”

“What about you, Gemerl?” Cream inquired.

“I am okay, Kiddo. I do not need to eat.”

“Ha, I had the same thought,” Charmy giggled. “You know what they say about great minds, ey Vector? Too bad your mind is far from great.”

“Why you little!” Vector reached out and grabbed Charmy’s wings, pulling the bee into a headlock where he rubbed his fist against his head. I believe this is referred to as… a noogie.

“Hey, hey, hey!” Charmy screamed. “Stop it! Not the head! You’re gonna break my antenna!”

I rolled my eyes and so did Espio.

Together, all of us sat down at the table where I helped prepare everyone’s plates. As I helped scoop some eggs onto Big’s dish, I took a look around and saw multiple sights.

Sonic and Vector wrapped a few pancakes around some sausage and bacon pieces, making mini burritos out of them. They shared a deadly glare before they started shoving their mouths with them, seeing how can eat theirs the fastest. Espio watched all of this and did what he did seconds ago; roll his eyes.

Tails grabbed a few muffins with oven mitts that had mint candy decorations on them. He placed a few on his plate and gave some to Amy.

Speaking of which, she was in the middle of a conversation with Knuckles, who was telling her about a time Shadow and Rouge paid him a visit on Angel Island. Blaze and Big were enjoying their food as the princess informed him about a friend of hers named Marine the Raccoon and how she is the captain of her own brigade. As I listened to the story, I looked to my right and saw Cream climbing up on my right arm and hugging it tightly. Cheese flew around my head, expressing his gleeful feeling. Vanilla sat behind us and chuckled at the moment between us.

I closed my eyes and allowed Cream to give me one last hug before she sat down and enjoyed her breakfast.

After everyone was seated, I looked down at the card Cream made for me, which rested right next to her. To prevent it from getting dirty, I picked it up and stared at it one last time – analyzing all of the similarities between what was happening now and in the card itself.

As I read the quote at the bottom, I thought to myself…

I would not change this for anything.
