Vulcans Never Lie

The turbolift swooshes open and a young man dressed in command gold strides towards the dais.

"Captain on the bridge," Lieutenant Commander Jung announces cheerfully from the 2nd Officer's seat.

"If you can't tell by my posture, I'm a bit nervous, Commander Min," Captain Kim Namjoon breezes past the Vulcan who intercepted him, back ramrod straight as he sits down on the Captain's chair.

"Captain, there is nothing to worry about. You are prepared, we, your crew are prepared," Commander Min Yoongi, resident Vulcan and First Officer tells the young Captain calmly.

"Damn right we are!" Lieutenant Park hollers, high-fiving Lieutenant Kim Taehyung before swiveling his chair to face the Captain.

"Your enthusiasm is much appreciated, Lieutenant," Commander Min says pointedly, a little scoldingly and the two Lieutenants duck their heads, turning back to snicker onto their consoles.

"It's just—five years out there! Where no man has gone before! We could visit new worlds!" Captain Kim says excitedly, his anxiousness getting replaced by such optimism.

"Or we could get incurable space disease!" Dr. Kim Seokjin snorts from his console. "I swear your allergies were caused by the fact that you were born on a ship in space!"

"Hyung, I was born in space too!" Ensign Jeon whines from his sit beside the doctor.

"And I swear you swallowed a blackhole with how strong your force is," Lieutenant Kim jokes, shooting finger guns at the Ensign who laughs.

"And Lieutenant Commander Jung is the sun," Lieutenant Park says, winking at said officer.

"Oh you, Jiminie," Lieutenant Commander Jung giggles.

Captain Kim has to roll his eyes at how unprofessional his crew is even on the bridge. Even so, this is the reason why he will always pick the Alpha shift crew to work with. He feels like he is working with family, and for that, he is reminded everytime why he must become the best Captain there ever would be. He will not fail them.

"If it eases your nerves, Captain, might I suggest the contact of warmth my hand can provide?" Commander Min suggests logically, standing right beside the Captain's chair in a very professional and fleet regulation stand.

Captain Kim bodily turns to him in shock.

"Are you suggesting we hold hands, Commander?"

The Vulcan looks at the Captain, face neutral as ever with no hint of emotions. He blinks at the Captain, head tilting to the side, as if questioning him if he really finished the Academy in under three years, with Command and Science tracks under his belt and then graduating as the youngest Captain in their entire fleet.

"Why yes, Captain," Commander Min says calmly.

The Captain can hear the slight condescending tone but doesn't feel insulted, just dubious of the fact that a Vulcan would want to hold hands with him.

"But don't you guys, uhm, kiss using your hands?" Captain Kim hazards to ask but the Commander only shrugs in that classic Vulcan way of his, head tilting slightly to the side.

"That is hearsay," Commander Min says.

"Uh-huh," Captain Kim says disbelievingly. He read the study about Xenosociology of Vulcans, and he's pretty sure all his professors at the Academy said never to touch the hands of the Vulcans, if he didn't want to sign a marriage certificate at the Vulcan Embassy, but the Commander is half-human, he must have a pass or something that Namjoon has never heard or read about.

The corner of Commander Min's lips twitch up into a little smile as he watches the gears of the Captain's brains work through an answer. Kim Namjoon is brilliant, far more brilliant than Min Yoongi will ever be, able to pilot and navigate the whole fleet through three wars simultaneously, but sometimes, he didn't understand confessions even if you scream it to his face.

So Commander Min, the clever Vulcan that he is, must communicate in Captain Kim's language.

"Easing your anxiousness is one of my directives as your First Officer. Doctor Kim will attest to the effectivity of warmth and contact as a primary means of lowering nervousness for humans. The act of hand holding is the logical course of action," Commander Min explains as-a-matter-of-fact, and offers his hand palm up to the Captain.

Captain Kim looks down at the hand, noting how big and pale it is before looking back up at the Commander.

"That's quite... logical," the Captain says, nodding his head in understanding and then smirking.  "Are you asking for my hand now?"

"Yes."

"Okay, okay. Let's hold hands now," the Captain says, laughing as he reaches for the Vulcan's hand and then entwining their fingers together.

"Your anxiousness will go down by eighty-seven point two-four percent from now on," Commander Min tells him.

The Captain giggles up at him.

"Are you sure I won't be signing any marriage certificates at the Vulcan Embassy after this hand holding, anxiety lessening ceremony?"

Commander Min only shakes his head, giving him a little lopsided smile.

"And you said before that Vulcans never lie?"

"Never," Commander Min lies.

The Captain can only grin.

"Lieutenant Park, set course for Delta Quadrant."

"Aye aye, Captain. Course laid in."

"Maximum warp. Punch it."
