Work Text:

Tinn is Gun’s first love.

He thought he knew love before; the love he has for his mom, his friends, the music club, and music itself of course. That’s the type of love he knows and is familiar with. But nothing compares to the feeling that he gets deep in his chest whenever he looks at the school president.

The guy who Gun thought wanted to ruin his club, and who actually turned out to be really nice - Gun can’t stop thinking about him lately. And it’s even worse now that he knows that Tinn likes him, Tinn likes him back.

They’re not boyfriends, not per se, they can’t be because of the stupid club rule that doesn’t allow it; but they sure act like they are. They spend the majority of their free time together and when they can’t, for whatever reason, Tinn likes to go down to the music club room in the basement to see them practice. If anyone gets even a little suspicious, the student council president has an excuse, each and every time. He needs to make sure they’re actually doing what they should, he needs to check nothing is broken, he needs to talk to Gun about club expenses, and so on and so forth. Whenever he uses the excuse to talk to Gun privately, they never talk about budget anyway. Tinn just listens to Gun, lets him let out all his stress and frustrations, and when it’s time to go back, he sends him off with a kiss on the cheek. Gun’s heart can only take so much. He’s so infatuated with Tinn it makes him dizzy and he doesn’t know what to do with himself. He wants to tell his friends he likes Tinn, wants to tell them that they got this far only because Tinn has had their back this whole time and the reason he helped them was for Gun. He likes the boy more than he ever imagined he could like someone, especially romantically. He wants to hold his hand in the hallways and wants Tinn to finally kiss him for real but -

“I don’t kiss people I don’t date,” Tinn says with a smirk, pushing Gun’s head away gently. They’re in Gun’s room; no one would see them here, no one would know.

“But you’ve never dated anyone. Don’t you want to practice?” He gives him his best puppy eyes. “We can practice kissing so our first kiss as boyfriends is perfect.”

Tinn laughs but there’s no malice in it. “My first kiss with you will be perfect, solely because it’s going to be with you.”

“You’re too whipped,” Gun groans. “Is this really all you’re feeling? Aren’t you frustrated that you can’t have me yet?”

“And do you want to have me already?” Tinn asks, holding Gun’s hand in both of his. Gun looks away, feeling the blush creeping up his neck. “That’s not what I said.” Of course he wants Tinn. Tinn is kind and adorable and he’s very good looking. And he takes such good care of Gun. Gun knows Tinn is his entirely already, but he wants others to know that, too. Sometimes he fights the urge to grab a permanent marker and write in big bold letters belonging to Gun on Tinn’s forehead.

“Of course I’m frustrated,” Tinn interrupts his train of thought. “I want everyone to know we’re each other’s, but I know that the club and its rules are important to you, that winning Hot Wave is everything to you right now. I’ve waited for years, what’s a few weeks more anyway?” He pulls Gun closer to him and the music club’s leader climbs into Tinn’s lap, legs and arms wrapped around him tightly. This is nice. He likes the closeness. It feels intimate and comfortable. Gun would have never guessed that his first relationship (not yet!) would not feel awkward, not in the slightest. “But I want you to know that I do want you, more than you can imagine, baby.” He squeezes Gun’s waist and Gun breathes in his scent happily. He is a baby, Tinn’s baby. No one could ever be his baby like Gun can.

“So what do you think?”

Gun rests his head on his hand and looks across the cafeteria at Tinn. He looks the same as usual, given they wear uniforms, but he’s laughing at something Tiw said and Gun can’t help but think that Tinn’s wide smile is the cutest thing ever. He wants to squish his boy’s cheeks and kiss his face all over. And when he notices some of the girls looking at Tinn too, something ugly bubbles up in Gun’s chest. Little do they know Tinn has eyes for Gun only. Maybe next time they’re cuddling, Gun should leave a hickey on Tinn’s neck so that these girls know he’s off limits.

“He’s just too pretty, I guess.”

“What?” Por pokes Gun between the ribs. “What the hell are you talking about? Sound asked about the lyrics.” Gun shakes his head and focuses on the paper in front of him. “It’s good.”

“You haven’t even looked,” Sound kicks his shin under the table. “Focus.”

“It’s a love song, what could possibly be so hard about writing a love song,” he shrugs. Sound narrows his eyes at him. “It is hard! Conveying your feelings is difficult! Clearly you know nothing about it.”

Gun wants to argue. He wants to tell Sound to shove his lyrics up his ass and choke on it, because he does know about love. He is in love. “Well since you are oh-so experienced,” Win cringes. “Then you don’t actually need our help or our opinions.” Gun hums, nodding to what Win is saying. He doesn’t agree but if he said something now, he’d only end up spilling the truth about him and his loverboy.

His phone buzzes and he fishes it out of his pocket. Tinn’s name with two red hearts next to it flash on the screen. He turns down the brightness of his phone and opens the text message.

-You look adorable today. I wish I could walk over there and hug you.

Gun giggles to himself, feet swaying above the ground. Sound kicks him again. “What are you laughing at?”

“Your face,” Win replies for Gun, and the two of them start bickering. Gun quickly puts his phone back and looks in Tinn’s direction. Tinn sends him a finger heart. Gun’s chest feels like it could explode with affection.

After lunch, they go to their club room and continue practicing the melody for their new original song. This time, Gun actually reads through Sound’s lyrics. It’s.. okay. Generic boy band love song. The words on paper don’t even come close to the actual feelings of love that Gun has.

“I think it’s lacking something,” he sits down next to Sound with Tinn’s pencil case in hand. “It looks like love song lyrics but it doesn’t feel like it.” He takes a pen and starts writing something down. He realizes that this is the first time he’s ever tried to put his feelings for Tinn into words. Sound peeks over his shoulder as Gun frantically scrabbles away. “Damn bro, who hurt you?”

Gun glances at him before going back to writing. “What do you mean?”

“The lyrics. It’s sad. Why can’t you express your love freely?”

Gun puts his pen down. “Circumstances.”

“Do they not like you back?”

Gun pouts. “Who even said it was about him?”

The room falls silent. He scratches his head nervously. Yo pats his shoulder in what Gun assumes is supposed to be a comforting manner. “So is it because he’s a boy?”

“What? No,” Gun stands up. “Do you think it’s weird?”

“Doesn’t concern us,” Win says. “It’s your life. We like you for you and your skills, not for who you like or want to date.” It’s not like Gun expected anything but acceptance from his best friends but it’s nice that they’re by him still. “Does he like you back? Does he even know you like him?”

Gun hides his face in his hands. “What does it matter, I can’t date anyone now anyway.”

His phone buzzes and  Gun walks to the side to open the text message.

-Good luck with your practice! Be good and practice hard for me.

Gun can’t help but grin. He’ll do anything to win Hot Wave and finally win Tinn, too. He’s Gun’s personal  grand prize.

The text messages from Tinn become a frequent occurrence. He texts Gun as often as he can, sometimes even during the council meetings. He always makes sure Gun knows just how much he wants him; wants to hold him in his arms, fall asleep by his side, hold his hand during lunch. Sometimes Gun blushes because Tinn has a way with words and it makes Gun’s insides melt into a puddle.

Sometimes, when he’s feeling particularly brave, he tells Gun how much he wants to kiss him and those messages make Gun’s spine tingle. He too wants Tinn to kiss him. He even googled - incognito of course - how to kiss. It’s embarrassing and he would never admit to it out loud, but he wants Tinn to like it. He wants Tinn to enjoy kissing him and do it more often. Gun even took notes. This is the most important homework of his teenage years.

Other times, he tells Gun about all the places he wants to take him to and all the dates they are going to go on once they’re able to make it official. Sometimes Gun screenshots those and saves them into his “date ideas” folder. He’s so in love it hurts, but in a good way. In a really good way.

The club members get suspicious every time Gun giggles at his phone or whenever Tinn comes to see them and Gun sports a huge grin on his face. Unless they’re completely stupid, they must have figured out that Gun likes Tinn-

-“I just don’t understand why he has to be here every other day,” Win mumbles under his breath. “We don’t need a babysitter.” Nevermind . They’re hopeless. Sound shoots him a look, looks at Gun, then back at Win. “Are you-“

“Leave it,” Gun waves his hand. “Let’s play it once more. It’s almost perfect.”

Tinn listens to the lyrics intently, holding himself back from smiling. The composed facade cracks however, when Gun sings the final line. You’re my second favorite person, right after me, because you make me the best person I could ever be.

“You did a great job with the lyrics, Sound,” Tinn says, his eyes glued to Gun. He’s teasing, and Gun knows, but he still pouts. Sound panics. “I didn’t-“

“I have to go now, I will see you all tomorrow.” He waves them goodbye and struts out of the cold basement room. Gun huffs, annoyed. He’s going to get back at him for this.

His phone chimes but he ignores it. Serves him right.

They play once more, just to be sure it wasn’t an accident when they played it perfectly, and the whole time, Gun’s phone is blowing up with messages. He’s smirking to himself. That will teach him.

He grabs his phone as others are putting their stuff away and grins at the messages Tinn sent him. He apologized over and over, complimented Gun’s songwriting skills, even promised cuddles and forehead kisses to make it up to him. Gun can’t even pretend to be mad at him, he’s just too precious. He puts the phone down without texting back and runs to Por who needs help with something, not even thinking about locking the screen. He’s buzzing with excitement at the promises Tinn made, even considers inviting Tinn over for his mom’s shaved ice. Maybe he could stay the night, it’s Friday after all. Gun would let him borrow his clothes. He really wants to see Tinn in his clothes, it’s like marking his territory.

Suddenly he hears a gasp and a “what the fuck is this”.

“Win! That’s Gun’s phone!” Sound yelps. Gun spins around.

“Gun, why the fuck is the school president texting you so much?” Gun’s heart stops for a brief moment. “Why is he telling you that he can’t wait to kiss your plush lips, oh my god my eyes!”

Well… at least now they know.
